Overall how have your moods changed?

After the initial recovery period, I started feeling much better once the weight started coming off. My attitude has changed for the better. I feel more outgoing and interactive with others as I am less concerned with how I appear to others weight wise.

What goes in, must come out, right?

If it was used as a preventative, I would check with your surgeon to see if you can use only as needed. As a nurse myself, this if what I would recommend to anyone and would do for myself. I had issues with constipation after my RNY due to the increased Protein intake and pain meds, so was told to take stool softeners and laxatives as needed. Excessive diarrhea can lead to other issues including pain when moving your bowels and wiping and skin breakdown, fissures, infections (including UTIs from all the wiping). Definitely check with your surgeon.

Do You Eat Breakfast? What Do You Have?

I typically have one of the following: 1. low calorie/sugar greek yogurt 2. low carb toast topped with low fat cottage cheese and sugar free fruit preserves 3. ProtiDiet Cereal and almond milk 4. high Protein waffle or pancake with sugar free syrup and fruit 5. eggs occasionally with salsa and Beans, but the eggs sit heavy for me, so I don't have them often
  4. I work for an insurance company as a nurse care manager and sometimes it isn't hoops at all that they are putting you through. Sometimes the nurses that do the reviews get very little documentation from the doctors with the request and they don't have the appropriate information to make an informed decision. Please, communicate with the surgeon and as mentioned above, if the denial was very recent ask for a peer to peer reconsideration (your surgeon can call in and request to speak with a medical director at the insurance company directly if they offer it). Otherwise, you will have to go through the appeal process, have the surgeon send in anything and everything that they feel will help support the medical necessity of the procedure. I almost went below the BMI and had to maintain my weight for a couple of months to ensure I would get approved because I had no other comorbidities. If your surgeon knew the requirements and didn't communicate what you should do to ensure approval, then that is on you and the surgeon, not the insurance company. The insurance company is just following guidelines that have been in writing in your policy since you had the policy.

NSV - Shopping at a Regular Store

How great! I recently had to buy all new clothes and got new ones. I plan to have them taken in by a tailor when they get too big to get some extra life out of them. I tried consignment shops, but didn't have any luck. I find shopping overwhelming now. I think I have had only one thing I tried on that I didn't like recently and it was because of the style of the dress, not because I hated the way I looked. It's a wonderful feeling.

    Vegetarian breakfast ideas

I do eggs, cottage cheese with sugar free fruit preserves. Greek yogurt, bariatric pal cereal or oatmeal, low sugar oatmeal mixed with a half scoop of unflavored protein powder, protein bars (if/when I decide to try them...then tend to make me dump). Sometimes I have non breakfast items for breakfast too if I really want to. Why not? I also make waffles out of protein powder and cook in a waffle iron and top with sugar free syrup.

    Gagging and dry heaving

This happened to me about the same time and come to find out I wasn't drinking enough. Are you getting in all of your fluids? Once I really concentrated on my fluid intake (I had to set an alarm on my phone to remind me to drink), the gagging and dry heaving resolved.
  8. It took me a few weeks for my pain to subside and mine was worse then I expected it to be a week out. Just take it easy, but don't stop walking and take your pain meds if you need them.

4 days post op & have questions

Just to trust the plan. It works. Don't be discouraged with stalls, they do happen and unfortunately my first one I obsessed over and it was all for nothing. Also if you hit a stall and are eating very little, it could be that you are not taking in enough. 3 different times I increased my calories and was able to get through a stall.

    What foods are you eating?

I eat grilled fish, tuna, eggs, Beans, TVP, veggie meat options, veggie hotdogs, low fat cheeses, low carb tortillas toasted until crispy (I make mini pizzas with these) and they have 7gms of Protein each tortilla (Joseph's flax low carb), protein chips, or I add no flavor Isopure Protein powder into foods that could use a protein boost like Soups. I like PB2 as well. I eat low carb Protein Bars occasionally, but they tend to make me dump.

    Best Quest bar flavor

Chocolate chip cookie dough - before my surgery anyways. Quest bars make me dump. I have a hard time with sugar alcohols now.

    Pain and movement

I had extended pain, but found out I was really constipated, I heard it varies from person to person, but the more I got up and moved the better I felt. Stay on top of your bowels. The increased protein can back you up. Ask your surgeon to add options for OTC meds for bowel management to have on hand. My go to was MOM.

    "Cheating"

I know myself and one cheat item leads to many...luckily for me sweets make me dump and even sugar free candies and low carb protein bars make me dump...I honestly just stuck it out and now I crave protein chips and low fat string cheese. Never thought that would happen, but I crave protein now. Stay strong!

Nut didn't give me Carb guidelines...?

My NUT said to keep carbs between 50-100 grams/day. Protein between 60-80 grams/day, I usually get 90-100, but she said since I exercise a lot more heavily then most of her patients that I should be fine with the extra protein. I am also trying to avoid hair loss if I can help it.
  15. otillie03103

    Protein

I also eat protidiet items and quest protein chips. I also mix unflavored isopure protein powder into foods like chili and soups.

    Before and after, yowwwza.

Awesome!. I am almost 11 weeks out and am 40 lbs from my surgeon's goal weight. 49 from my goal.
  17. I haven't experience the shat since my surgery, but I probably could have if I trusted a fart. I never have trusted one since a bad bought with food poisoning about five years back.

4 days post op & have questions

I didn't feel the full sensation until I was a few weeks out as well. I didn't get a pressure in my chest, it was an actual pulling sensation on my pouch and if it pulled too much I got sick. I eat until satisfied...once my hunger is gone, but before I feel that uncomfortable pulling sensation. I heard the feeling of fullness varies for everyone.
  19. I am five weeks out today (RNY). I have been experiencing pain and discomfort under my upper ribs off and on. Not sure if it is gas? I read similar symptoms from other people who have had it. IP icked up some gas x chewables and will try it. I also have been having random boughts of nausea, sometimes an hour or two after eating. It started late at night which I though could have been from being overtired, but I have noticed I am increasingly tired in the evenings to the point that I am in bed by 8pm-9pm. The nausea causes me to dry heave a couple of times and then it passes. Not sure if I am suddenly lactose intolerant or what could be causing it? I just had a random bought at 4pm today so now there doesn't seem to be a set time and no rhyme or reason to it. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms?

    5 weeks out, pain, nausea

I am feeling much better. I think it is related to fluids. Days I am well hydrated I feel fine, and the days I am not it returns after a few days.

    5 weeks out, pain, nausea

thanks for this! Today I haven't experience either and I set an alarm on my phone and everytime it goes off I sit and finish 8 oz of Water. I am ahead today and already have 44 oz down. I hope this is all that was happening. It sounds exactly like what I experienced when I allowed myself to become mildly dehydrated. I had to set an alarm and drink water throughout the night and up my fluids during the day. The nausea disappeared immediately after increasing my fluids. I'm not a doctor but it may be worth a try. Hope this helps.

    5 weeks out, pain, nausea

That is something I had considered. I will call my doctor tomorrow.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

My wedding rings flip around on my fingers and I was able to step over a children's gate at a friend's house this morning without issue (I always had to move the gate before). I noticed that I take up less space on the couch which makes me feel good.

When did you start eating cherry tomatoes

I am trying some now for the first time on veggie chicken salad. I am really taking my time and so far so good.

    @ the starting line....

I had nausea from the anesthesia as well, but was resolved by second day post op. It will probably improve with time. Are your pain meds part of the cause of the nausea?
