How many fills / ccs before you feel restriction...
amc581 replied to ReadyInCT's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes my band is 10cc's i would say do .5 at a time make sure you can drink Water before you leave the office, and if it does end up to tight that would suck but your gonna have to get there somehow. I'm so fortunate that hasn't happend to me but it is a fear every time i go in especially since it's taken so much fill to get to this point. I would say if you really don't have any issues with food and can eat at a reg/fast pace try for the .5 if you think your on the cusp of being there then maybe .25 i really think if you pay attention to the way the food feels when your eating it you know how close you are to being there. Jmho good luck -
How many fills / ccs before you feel restriction...
amc581 replied to ReadyInCT's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well I had my surgery at the end of april and have had 6 fills totaling 8.5cc's. My last fill of .5 was done this past thursday and the differance is significant. I really wasn't losing weight very fast and I would only occasionally have issues with food if i was eating to fast, or before i learned better, drinking with my food, but no real restriction. NOW! however I'm not really ever hungry the amount of food I can eat is alot less and I've lost 4lbs since thursday. So really it just very's per person I was begining to wonder if i would ever get restriction but I just kept at it. It does become somewhat discouraging at times because I feel like its been so long since my surgery and I havn't lost as much weight as i would have liked to, but I also kept thinking once i get restrition maybe then I'll catch up with my goal. I'm hoping now I've got all the parts to my tool to acomplish that. hope you get your sweet spot soon. -
wow well i'm guessing with 41 views and only one responce I'm alone with this one. thanks anyway.

Hi everyone, so I got a fill yesterday and everything seems fine except, if I get hungry because I haven't eaten in a few hours, I've been getting this pain in my mid back directly in back of my sternum. once I eat it goes away but once it starts, its really painful and makes me feel like i may vomit. Now obviously i need to get some snacks to put in my desk so when it starts i can eat, but I was curios if anyone else has this problem. Its very strange and uncomfortable.

Exactly 2 Months Post Surgery: An Audit of the Band
amc581 replied to NicoleW8ing's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
nicole, So very strange but you basically just wrote my story except you've had better weightloss than me. I was banded on 4/29 tried to have my 1st fill 4 weeks out and could not due to swelling i had my 2nd fill on 7/3 and it brought me to 5cc's, doc said because of the holiday no one would be in the office incase of emergency so he wanted to keep it at a low fill this time. I was very discouraged untill this last fill, and now with a bit better restriction i can tell its working not how i want it to but i'm on the way. Anyway it was nice to see you experice thank you and good luck. -
Every time I go to a class with the Surgeons
amc581 replied to mphsmommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
well you just basically listed every reason I didn't want the bypass. I mean actually it wasn't even an option for me. I researched the band decided that these were risks I was willing to take. Bypass was just not something I thought about, I realize that the weight comes off alot quicker with bypass but I think, and this is from just knowing people that have had bypass that its easier to go back to old habits and gain a large portion of the weight back. the band being adjustable means I have control for the rest of my life. Its everyone individual choice I just wasn't willing to take all the downs of the bypass surgery for the quicker weight loss, it will come off in time. Good luck -
My 1st fill was thursday and my doc gave me 4cc's and I go back 7/3. I guess its really up to there discretion, I would hate having to go for .5cc's at a time I mean I only got filled on thursday but I kinda feel like I know I need more already.

my step father in his unfunny humor says to me on the day of my surgery" one year to get skinny, then a man then a baby" I just told him to shut up. I really feel for you it's amazing how people can't think its possible someone wants to fix themselves for themselves and not to catch a man and produce children. but whatever that there isssue not mine.

Depressed!!! Not loosing weight :(:(
amc581 replied to salam's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm right there with you, I was banded on 4/29 and have lost 8.5lbs since surgery. I went today for my 1st fill and the doc put 4cc in. I asked him while I was there if my weight loss was normal, and he said yes average is 1-2 a week and that's about where I am. He said some people do loose more faster but not everyone and to not be discouraged. He said he is very happy with my progress and my fill should help with curbing my hunger and come back in 2 weeks. I really understand your frustration and concern, but when I get a little upset that I'm not 20lbs lighter already, I just think 1 i'm still 8lbs lighter. 2 I'm loosing not gaining and that is exciting, and 3rd and finally, if I continue with 1.5 lbs a week I'll have lost 78lbs by 1yr and thats incredible. So although it may not be coming off as fast as we want it to, the scale is still going down and that all I wanted. best of luck -
Marijuana Use After Surgery
amc581 replied to KBates's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wonder why people feel it nessasary to remind those of us in the U.S. that pot is illegal, and to be quite honest it's not really illegal if you have a perscription, or in some states you have to have more than a ounce on you to be charged with anything. There are plenty of things that are technically illegal that people do all the time. Speeding, littering, Some sexual acts. Its all about personal responsability if I choose to purchase and partake in smoking pot I'm not hurting anyone and I deal with the consiquenses if I do get caught. I don't think responable people are smoking in front of children, and if you are that is bad. And if the illegality makes people stay away then that's there choice, I like to take my chances with johnny law, call me a rebille if you must. BTW in no way do i want to excersize high, that is comfy time.:rolleyes2: -
I was really sad when I first saw your post, thinking that a man could cause you to possibly postpone your surgery. I'm so happy you decided to go ahead with it. I wanted to send you this link because I found this girl on youtube, and she video blogs about her lap band experience. she too was broken up with days before her surgery. and now almost a year later she's thinner happier and with a differant man.[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zw9eEb6R7us]YouTube - 7/7 Video Blog #3 WLS Lap Band[/ame] check out this and all of her blogs very inspiring! you can search her at you tube thebandinme.

So I went for my one month post- op appt with my surgeon on Thursday. He asked me how I was doing, and blah blah, and then he said are you feeling full? Well I said no cause I'm not, I don't over eat and get sick but I really have not alot of differance in fullness and for sure hunger. but I'm trying to get through. Anyway so he says well lets see about a small fill. he numbs me and sticks me about 6 differant times but couldn't get it, said I was still too swollen around the port site. Has anyone else come across this problem? I figure it was a little too soon to try but man was I dissapointed I really thought I was going to get a glorious fill, Oh well another two weeks and hopefully I will be less swollen.

Hi everyone, Its been a month almost 2 more days for it to be official. Anyway so I've lost 8lbs, and I want to be excited because it is a loss, but it seems low. I know i'm not restricted yet, and I've been on solid foods for a bout a week. I'm not having any problems with any foods, and I'm eating alot less then I did before. I've been walking for a hour a few days a week, when I can. Although my portions are smaller I'm just as hungry and have been since about 2 weeks in. Is 8lbs normal amount to lose? does this mean it may not actually work for me? Is there anyone that got fills and it just didn't work for them, I'm afraid since the weight isn't really coming off. Any advise will be greatly appriciated.
