How plus size stores rip us off!

With many decades being a clotheshorse under my belt, I have determined that I hate cheap clothing. Cheap fabrics, cheap design, cheap workmanship just aren't worth the money. With few exceptions, they don't fit well, wear well, flatter me, or make me feel good when I'm wearing them. That said, I dislike paying full retail. I'm doing some consignment shopping now that I'm on the cusp of no longer needing a plus size. A well-engineered, well-constructed bra is worth every penny I cringe at spending on it. On the rare occasion I can find a cheap one in my size (F-cup here), it doesn't last nearly as long as the better ones do, and doesn't do nearly as much for my figure. I watch sales and loyalty program promotions. Walmart? Not me. I live between two of them, and I won't set foot in either one. The mess and disorganization in them just kills any pleasure I take in shopping.

    Dreaming... about clothes

    @Dub. High heeled? Thigh-high?

    Clothes Shopping

I hit a couple consignment stores with a friend last weekend and came away with a pair of pants, a sweater, and two shirts for less than the pair of pants would have cost new. Score!

    separation

If you were only sleeved in March, and she's leaving barely two months later, these were issues brewing long before you had your surgery. Nevertheless, I'm sorry this is happening to you.
  5. In future you can use a coworker's favorite expression "dumber than a bag of hammers" to make one's point.
  6. Of course you can. it's a means to an end. It's a week out of your life. You can do this!
  7. Not to diminish the impact of food addiction for those who have identified this as an issue in their journey, but the point of the article was the change in RMR that the contestants acquired as the result of their rapid weight loss phase while on the show. if your metabolism shrinks that much (more than 500 calories a day for at least one contestant), even the best efforts to maintain are hindered significantly. We need to get away from the notion that obesity is some sort of character flaw, it's so much more complex than that. I'm looking forward to many more studies on the subject in future, now that we've recognized that treating obesity can make a huge impact on so many so-called "lifestyle diseases" that are rampant in this country. That said, I do think that our culture does a lot to encourage obesity. I've been fortunate to spend a good amount of time in Europe, where obesity is far less prevalent than in the US. Especially in central Europe, where US fast food is nearly unheard of, people walk a lot as part of their day. They eat good meals of real food, and they linger over them. Even in a roadside diner, food is cooked to order, eaten at tables, sitting down, not eaten in the car on the way to somewhere else. Other than an ice cream cone, you don't see people walking down the street eating. And that ice cream cone is wonderful quality, and small. We're so used to the notion of "more, more, more" - whether it's food or stuff or money. I'm very much enjoying the sleeve effect of "enough". I'm loving that the difference between "enough" and "too much" is a single bite. I've really needed this in my life.

Its becoming harder to get food/drink down

A change in your ability to swallow is something you need to call your surgeon about. Now.

    Scared out of my mind

Preop feelings like this are very, very, VERY common. Have a look over the boards and you'll see. I don't know who told you you wouldn't enjoy food again after surgery. I am 7.5 weeks out and in every stage of my postop phases, I've found that I enjoyed some foods more than others, but I've always had foods that I enjoyed eating. The lovely thing is that I'm satisfied with so much less now! Everyone experiences pain differently. Mine wasn't bad at all. The worse part was my larger incision for for the first four days or so. I never took anything stronger than plain Tylenol once I got home from the hospital. Probably the best response to a post like this I've seen was one that reminded the poster that the decision to have surgery was made when they weren't in a full-on preop meltdown. You decided to have this surgery for sound reasons. Those reasons still exist. They're still true. The only thing that has changed is your perspective. Miserable? Is there anything more miserable than facing the rest of your life obese? Yes, you may feel less than great for a couple weeks. Not everyone does. A healthier rest of your life is the reward.

Denied due to no disabling condition

Find out what the NV Medicaid policy is concerning bariatric surgery. Amerigroup will have a contract with the state that can't deny you unless you don't meet the State's requirements.

    Unfriendly friends

What she may be objecting to isn't you having surgery, but the change that you've begun in the relationship between the two of you. While both of you were overweight and struggling with all that being obese in our society means, you had something in common that you won't have in common any longer - partly because by making the decision to have surgery, you've signaled that you aren't happy staying the same. You've decided on permanent change for yourself. That leaves her potentially alone in a way she wasn't before. It may be hard for her to be as supportive as you would like for her to be under those circumstances.

What a fantastic achievement! Congratulations on all yoru hard work - and the payoff!

    How much longer

It depends on how far out your surgeon is scheduled already, and the availability of the hospital OR and surgical team.

one week post op general questions!

Whoever told you you can't use Protein powder without working out is wrong, wrong, wrong. He's clearly never met anyone who has had bariatric surgery. Don't return to working out without your surgeon's OK. Walking should be fine. Check the guidelines from your surgeon to see what is and is not allowed at this stage. If you think you're hungry at this stage, it's either excess acid or head hunger, could be both.

    Appetite or head hunger?

No one knows for sure, but I'm betting head hunger. Most of us crave the texture of "real" food by the time we're cleared for it. But eating another oz of meat may have been just what you needed, given your results this morning. I think a lot of us at this stage (I'm 7.5 weeks) are in a place where our swelling has gone way down, we're trying to see which foods are or are not tolerated by our sleeve, we now have the freedom and the challenge of things like restaurant meals where we don't pre-measure everything. I'm finding it a challenge, but I like it.
  16. Fascinating article. Now I'm more interested in ever in going up to UC Davis and having my RMR tested here near the beginning of my sleeved life. I'll go back and have it done again a year from now. Their School of Sports Medicine will do the testing. I know that all the years of yo-yo-ing have done a number on my metabolism.

    My crazy cousin

And what will she do after 10 weeks to keep the weight off?
  18. 2goldengirl

    About 5 days out

You're doing great. Many sleevers don't feel "full" while they're still on liquids. Believe me when I tell you that will change when you get to solids. Additionally, I find that "full" feels different with the sleeve than without. The burping is probably from postop swelling in your sleeve. Try taking your liquids and shakes a bit more slowly and see whether that helps. As the swelling goes down, the bufping goes away. Good luck and congratulations!

    Frustrated and confused :(

Look over your dietary guidelines from your surgeon again, there should be a calorie target or range along with your Protein and Fluid goals. I'm 7 week out, and in the next month I'll be increasing calories as my capacity increases. I'm about 650-700/day now, I need to head to 800-1200.
  20. A competent, ethical behaviorist doesn't rely solely on any of the standardized tools. The tools themselves are designed to flag responses where the candidate is giving answers they think will show themselves favorably, for one thing. The other is that (here in CA, anyway, where insurance is paying), an evaluator also includes information from their interview with the candidate. I have worked on cases where the MD reviewing the request for surgery denied it and suggested the candidate re-apply after a period of psychotherapy and a psych re-evaluation.

    Gulping Not Sipping

You're fine. You can't "ruin (your) new stomach" with liquids. It just makes it easier for you to get your fluids in.
  22. She was a very poor candidate for surgery, and wouldn't have passed any of the evaluators I've worked with. I think young adults who have been obese throughout their formative years need extra therapy in preparation for WLS. The combination of little life experience with the newfound sexual attention is mind-bending. Additionally, they may have even poorer self-esteem than many of the rest of us. I worry every time I see someone here in their early 20's.

    Meal prep! Who's with me?

Looks fab! Though at only 7 weeks out, it would take me all day to eat one of those salmon boxes.
