    Kinda Concerned

I was sleeved on 3/10 and have no appetitie. I eat because I know I must - I have a calorie and Protein goal to meet. I know I need more than liquids, so I am branching out into new foods, one every day or so. If you are only taking liquids, how are you meeting your protein and nutrient goals?

    100lb lost!

That's fantastic! What do you mean "my weight loss hasn't axactly been swift"? 10 lbs a month is totally awesome, and twice to three times faster than I've been able to achieve since my teens. Own your achievement! Celebrate!
  4. I'm only four weeks postop, so anything grain isn't on the near horizon for me, but my surgeon and RD also recommend the balanced approach. Right now I'm getting between 40 and 50 gm/day of carbs, from either refried Beans, yogurt, or cottage cheese - plus the Premier Protein has 5 carbs. Overall I'm only getting in between 600 and 700 calories a day. I'm not eliminating carbs because I need what glycogen I have. The beans are a great source of fiber for me, I'm able to get in 10 gm of fiber a day, which means I do not have postop constipation as many do. I know some surgeons strongly advocate a no/low carb approach, but I'm grateful that my surgeon and RD think otherwise. I'm a big believer in balance as being sustainable for me for the long haul.

Being nervous and having second thoughts are pretty typical, you've got lots of company. Sometimes I think that after all the appointments and testing and anxiety over insurance approval, once that's done, there is nowhere for all that energy to go except into worrying about all the "what if's". I'll be four weeks postop tomorrow. I eat because I know I need to, but I haven't been hungry once. I had a couple setbacks early on, but I'm doing fine now. No regrets. If you read many posts here, you'll see that some folks have an easier postop course than others; the thing to remember is that everyone is different. Good luck!

Congratulations! It all seems so much more "real" once you have your approval and your date, doesn't it?

    Regret

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I had a rough first couple weeks, but I'm keeping down food now and am feeling much better. No regrets. I don't care what your Dr. says, vomiting every morning is NOT normal. I have read that some people have more restriction in the mornings. I notice this myself, so I have a Protein drink at Breakfast. Solids do much better for me later in the day. Keep trying, it does get better.
  10. @@Amurillo04, you've got a lot on your plate. And you have some very significant issues not related to whether or not you have WLS. First, whether or not you take an antidepressant, and which one, is NOT up to your mother! It's up to you and your psychiatrist. Second, if you are not currently in therapy, I heartily recommend finding a therapist that uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - these are techniques you can learn to handle stressful situations so that they don't spiral out of control. Third, if you are not seeing a specialist about your psoriasis, you need to. Psorisis often has an autoimmune component and a specialist needs to work with you on this. These things need to be dealt with BEFORE you have any life-changing surgery. Why? Because having the surgery itself is stressful. You need to know what medications work for you for both the psoriasis and the depression before surgery. You need some tools to use in order to work your way through the immediate postop period. You've got a lot going on and I really, really hope you are able to get the help you both need and deserve for it all. Good luck to you.

If something concerns you, do not hesitate to contact your surgeon, day or night, even on weekends.

    cpap

You need to call your CPAP vendor in the morning and see about trying a different mask. The right mask can make all the difference, but it can take some trial and error to get there. Your vendor can't help you unless they know you're having a problem.

1 Day Postop - Weight Gain

Stop worrying and put away the scale. I mean it. I came home more than nine lbs heavier than preop after a readmission where I was eating NOTHING for five days, only getting IV fluids. Do I need to tell you how fast that all reversed itself? Your body has one job in the immeidate postop period: to heal from surgery. Period. Weight loss happens secondary to healing. That's the way it is, the way it was meant to be. Take care of yourself, follow your postop instructions, and call your surgeon if you have problems or questions.

Band to sleeve and deadly worried

Anyone who is worried this much about potential complications and "how would I know" REALLY needs to be having these discussions with their surgeon. I can't stress enough how important this is, for several reasons. Just because your surgeon schedules your next visit "X" number of weeks out doesn't mean you can't call them any time you have a question or concern, even nights or weekends. There is always a surgeon on call.

    14 days post op

That isn't uncommon while you're still on liquids/semisolids. Honest. Trust me when I tell you that solids make you feel your restriction much more!
  18. Have you been in touch with your surgeon about this? If you haven't, please do. Many of us find that varying temperatures help. Warm liquids work better for me than cold ones, though early on, Iced Gatorade worked better than anything. If you're having trouble with semisolids, try backing off to full liquids and see how those work.
  19. Not sure which post you're referencing, but a sleeved stomach does get quite swollen postop. Most of that swelling is gone in the first couple weeks, but it still takes time for it to adjust to no longer having the super-stretchy fundus that it once had. I'm 3.5 weeks postop. I can get in barely two ounces of something like soft canned chicken, but I can get in a half-cup of Soup. In the initial six months, that capacity is expected to increase to where I can get in 2-3 oz. of lean Protein at a time. liquids empty faster from the sleeve, so generally folks can handle liquids in greater volume than solids, especially initially. I hope this helps!
  20. Nope, no pill crushing, ever. I am cutting my Calcium pills in half.
  21. Part of the major issue with these studies is that long-term statistics are only as good as the followup. If patients are successful long term, or not, if they don't keep up with their surgeons, where does the data come from?
  22. What is there to worry about? You're fortunate! Keep doing what you're doing!

Need some one to kick my a**

I'm so sorry about your loss. Times of stress can make us regress to unhealthy patterns, but it ends up causing more problems along the way. Do make the effort to take better care of yourself, one bite at a time. You're worth it!
