  1. Fantastic work. So, how will you celebrate and own this wonderful milestone? Cause a year of improving self-care is a HUGE achievement for you!
  2. The problem with news media articles like this is they cite one study - and don't provide a link to the actual study. I'm not stopping my PPI yet. And one study does not a conclusion prove - only a suggestion. And the biggest takeway from grad school statistics: "correlation does not equal causation".

    3 days till plastics tiiiime!

It will be interesting to see what you-minus (extra skin removed + swelling) ends up to be, won't it? A friend of mine had her TT 2.5 years after he sleeve and ended up losing 13 lbs just from the skin removed. You look great. How much longer will you be off work?

    Vacation season...What are your plans?

Last year we had a big trip (southeastern Europe) and our annual camping trip. This year, just the camping, in Big Sur, my happy place.

    Calcium citrate

I hate the chewables - too sweet and chalky. I use the costco pills, but they're hard to get in right now. surgeon knows and she's OK with me waiting a bit, my calcium level is fine.

    Last Meal

We had a family birthday two nights before my surgery. We went out to dinner and I had a glass of champagne, a wedge salad, and fish. It was completely delicious and I enjoyed every bite. And I told my surgeon about it and she thought it was fine. The funny thing is, I'd been on my preop diet, so I had to share the salad, and I had no interest in dessert. I did eat all the fish, though. I remember thinking it was the last time I was going to be able to eat an entire dinner-sized serving of anything. I skipped the appetizer and the bread cause what I really, really wanted was what I ordered.

    Eating the same meals

My sleeve is very particular - yes to this, no to that, she's definitely the boss of me!

    Hiatal hernia and Sleeve

I had a small one and had the repair along with my sleeve. My recovery would have been fine - except I fell down a couple steps onto a concrete floor the day I came home from the hospital. The bruising around my ribs swelled my esophagus shut for a few days, so I had to go back in the hospital. But if I hadn't been a dope and fallen, it would have been fine!

    Protein shakes

Everyone's tastes are different. For readymade, I like Premier Protein that I get at costco. For take-along powder, Isopure or unjury.

need to learn to slow dow

I have one next to my recliner, one in my home office, and one at work. Because my portions are still so small, I eat most of my meals ut of those little pyrex custard cups. The pyrex works great on the warmer.

    Newbe to gastric bypass world

Oh man, I had a break like that a dozen years ago. I hope it isn't your dominant arm. Heal well! About five months before surgery, I just started out tracking my intake. I use Sparkpeople, some folks prefer Myfitnesspal. My intention was accountability, not weight loss. I also started weighing daily because during parts of my life where I'd been more successful, that was a practice that worked for me. I'd already decaffeinated years ago. Some people use this time to ease off carbonated drinks, caffeine, or trigger foods. It's an excellent time in your life to take a good look inside, and explore whether you're an emotional eater (I wasn't). If you are, start now to develop some self-care techniques so that when emotions come up and you can't use food to soothe yourself, you can still cope. Other people use this time to start moving and changing other habits that get in the way of postop success. This can be a really fruitful time in your life. Oh, and remember that if you're healing a fracture, you actually need a bit more Protein and calories for healing.

    Eating the same meals

Am doing this - this week, anyway. I have no appetite and just went back to work. I figure it won't hurt me for a week, I'm getting in what I need to get in. I'll change it up next week. I'm only five weeks out, and have a diva sleeve, which means limited choices.

    Medicine

I was taking my usual medications the day after surgery. This is something your surgeon will discuss with you, and may discuss with your cardiologist as well.

need to learn to slow dow

I've got the opposite problem, because I get super uncomfortable if I eat too fast. I use a mug warmer to keep my food warm, cause I like hot foods hot. I'm in the middle of dinner, which means it takes me nearly 30" to get in 2.5 oz of fish. I'm 5 weeks out.

    What to eat?

Lately I have fallen hard for Trader Joe's soy-ginger cod fillets. The only cooking you do is to empty it out of the package and throw in in the oven for 15". It's heavenly, and the sauce both keeps the fish soft and helps it go down more easily. Huz usually fixes some broccoli or potatoes to go with, all I have room for at the moment is the fish. I've been successful reheating it at 50% power in the microwave. Refried Beans are another daily dish, because they're my main source of Fiber these days.

I Have My One Year Follow Up Today

I predict you will get confetti and a brass band from your surgeon. If you don't, you ought to. Please check in and tell us what they said!

    Weight loss Pause

You probably won't start losing again until you get your Protein and calories up. I'm losing slowly this week - I went back to work (increased calorie expenditure) and am only getting in about 600 calories a day. I'm supposed to be at 700-800. But it will come off. A lot of people fear that they will be the lone outlier and that surgery won't work for them. They've been proven wrong. Really. Keep sipping!

Is there a limit on protein?

Yes, you can have more - but in reality, especially in the first month or so postop, you'd be surprised what a challenge that can be. I'm nearly five weeks out, and I got a whopping 66 grams in today. My sleeve is a diva, and it hasn't been easy to get it all in. My big milestone tonight is I was able to get in 2.5 oz of fish in at dinner. And that's all I got in for dinner.

    This is a mess

This is silly. It's up to your primary, and if they approve, the secondary pays a minimal amount anyhow. Talk with the office manager.
  25. It wouldn't have been in my case. I was readmitted to the hospital and was still there 5 days postop. I took four weeks off and I needed every bit of them and yes, I have a desk job. Will you be sent home on full liquids? Will you be able to get them in at work?
