  1. Usually, a secondary payer won't cover beyond the limits of a primary payer's coverage, but that isn't always the case. Why not call your insurance yourself and find out?
  2. I agree, 800 calories is very low for the amount of activity you're doing. Try increasing gradually - my doc has me increasing gradually fron 600-800 calories/day before I start regular food (still on soft). For the remainder of my weight loss phase, she wants me at 900-1200, specifically so I don't slow my metabolism down.
  3. I hope you feel twice as good as you look - and you look abso-freaking-lutely fantastic!

    One month follow up......

That's fantastic! I hope you are feeling great!

    Day after pill

Call your doctor in the morning. It either worked or it didn't, panicking won't change that now.

    No Energy!

You may not be getting enough calories in yet. I'm a little ahead of you - I'm 5.5 weeks. My surgeon told me to shoot for 600-800 calories/day and I definitely notice better energy now that I'm being able to get in 700 most days.
  7. You're still on mostly liquids. It's not uncommon to feel a lack of restriction with them because they don't stay in your sleeve long, they mostly just slide right through. You will most likely feel more restriction once you're getting more solids in your day.
  8. You will. I'm 5-1/2 weeks out, and I first noticed an increase in how much I can eat once I hit about 4-4-1/2 weeks. Everyone is different in their rate of healing of course, but you will notice a difference. I was able to get in 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or Soup or refried Beans at about four weeks. something more solid (like fish), I can do 2.5 oz now. Fortunately, I haven't had a bit of hunger. I eat on a schedule cause I know I have to. Hang in there!

    Calorie intake

Calories didn't matter for mine, just adhering to the choices I was given. In most cases, the goal is to limit carbohydrate to reduce glycogen storage in the liver.

    Do I have a leak?

I'm presuming that they didn't find any signs of a PE nor any DVT's, yes? Which is great news!
  11. Catalyst is a bunch of amino acids - all of which you will be getting with the emphasis on protein on both pre and postop diets. Save your money!
  12. Detoxes are almost universally marketing hype. Detoxing is what your liver and kidneys do. Really. Save your money, follow your preop and postop instructions from your surgeon, and don't either add to or subtract from those instructions without checking first with your surgeon.

    Advocare

I wouldn't. You won't be gaining muscle during the rapid weight loss phase after surgery - your body can't handle the catabolism of losing significant weight while also building muscle. Best you can hope for (especially as a female, we gain muscle slower) is to keep the lean mass you have during the weight loss phase. Save the muscle gains for when you can increase calories so you have something extra to build muscle with.

    Should I be worried?

Mashed potatoes, depending on the consistency, can be a "slider" food. They were on my approved foods for pureed stage, so those of you who replied with "you shouldn't be eating those" need to be aware that everyone gets different guidelines. When I first started out with soft foods, I could only get in 1/4 cup, now I can do 1/2 cup of something like refried Beans or cottage cheese. Fish or something that requires more chewing and has more Protein I can only get in 2.5 oz. Don't worry too much, nobody is perfect at this, and there is quite a bit of trial and error involved! You'll get the hang of it. And stay off the scale for a while, it's better for your peace of mind
  15. I'm sorry this is throwing you for a loop. Getting in and out of bed was the worst part of that for me, but it improved quickly and I hardly remember it now! Take your pain meds while you need them, and be assured that this will heal pretty quickly. Honest!

    Cheating with post op diet

It just hurt a lot and then it went away after a while Sent from my LGMS631 using the BariatricPal App That pain is a signal from your body that it is NOT READY for you to be deviating from your postop instructions. You wouldn't let one of your kids do something like that - why are you willing to hurt yourself? Over pizza? There is no pizza in the world good enough to risk your surgical outcome for.
  17. Chapstick. Pajama bottoms for walking the halls. Your hairbrush and your favorite moisturizer. I don't know why, but my skin dries out in hospitals and hotels!

    Shame

If the only people you have told are not supportive, I don't wonder that you don't want to tell anyone else! Don't be ashamed of yourself for needing help, be proud of yourself for knowing what you need to be healthy and successful and getting it.

    Alcohol

How far out are you? This is your surgeon, whose advice is important, but your success is up to you. You are an adult, and you make your own choices. We all know that there are many, many variations on postop guidelines. The farther out from surgery you are, the more your choices are on you.
  20. This is a blog. It's complete crap. You really need to stay off the internet if you're going to fall for stuff like this. STOP. Do you have any calming techniques you use for anxiety? If you do, you need to start to use the and stop trolling the internet for clickbait hogwash like this. NOW.

    Big bosomed friends

Depending on your age, your breasts may be mostly fat. The older you are, the less breast tissue, and the most fat, are in them. A friend of mine, who has lost 150# and is at goal, says hers are now so flat that she "rolls 'em up like socks and sticks 'em in the bra". I'm planning on a lift after I get to goal.
  22. Relax your mind, human growth hormone (HGH) is produced and released from your pituitary gland, far, far from your stomach, no matter how much was removed.

    Do I have a leak?

It's entirely possible the symptoms you are having are entirely unrelated to your surgery. It would be rare to have a leak that far out, but if you are concerned, call your doctor.
  24. You've really got yourself tied up in knots over all this. I'm sorry you're feeling so out of control. You are not going to die because you're having a tough time in the early days. I couldn't keep anything at all down until I was a week postop, and nothing but Clear Liquids after that for another 10 days after that. I'm halfway between five and six weeks and I'm meeting Protein, Fluid, and calorie goals. Really. You are not going to "die young after having so many complications from getting 70% of my stomach removed and losing all those important hormones." All what important hormones? The only hormone you're losing is ghrelin, the hormone that can lead to overeating. Buyer's remorse is very, very, VERY common in the first month after surgery, especially for people who have a rougher time than others. I've observed from reading these boards that it's also very common in younger individuals with less life experience who may also have less understanding of how our bodies work. Lack of knowledge can really contribute to fear of the "what if's". Don't let that derail you. If you haven't already been in touch with your surgeon about the trouble you're having, call. Now. I don't care if it's the weekend, there is always someone on call 24/7. Hang in there. You can do this!

    Myotape Body Measuring Tape

I have a friend do my measurements for me once a month. She and I both sew, so I trust her with a tape measure. It's more accurate (especially for some areas) if you aren't changing your posture to try to measure yourself. And she ooohs and ahhh's over the changes, too, which is mighty fun!
