Can you actually "stall" during liquid pre-op? Im getting frustrated :(
2goldengirl replied to Bethany Copley's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please, please, please, stop worrying. You are doing everything you are supposed to do. Do you think your surgeon can't see from your progress to date that you are following recommendations? You can only do what you can do. Whether your body goes along with the program is outside of your control. Hang in there! -
9 days post op and I can already eat 4oz yogurt?
2goldengirl replied to Talaria's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Relax. Yogurt isn't a "slider food", it's semiliquid. Once it gets into your sleeve, it empties very quickly. Different surgeons give different guidelines. Follow the instructions your surgeon gave you. Don't go looking on the internet for this kind of thing, you have instructions from YOUR surgeon for YOU. Many, many postop patients get frantic because they "feel no restriction" or similar while they're on the liquid stages. Then they advance to something more like real food and notice a big difference. Have some more liquid. Take a walk, or a nap. Stay off the internet if you have to to avoid worrying. You'll be fine. Really. -
It will pass. It's awfully uncomfortable until it does, but walking is the best cure. I used to take care of postop patients who swore that gas pain was worse than the pain from their incisions - and this was before things were done laparoscopically. I promise, it will get better.

I think my scale needs a remedial math course...
2goldengirl replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
One has to wonder what your scale has been doing - up too late carousing with the toaster and the food processor? (you know what bad influences they can be!) -
Sleeve 4/27- preop diet concern

If you're only doing liquids, one cause for bloating could be constipation... -
Surgery was a BREEZE!
2goldengirl replied to Sandra86says's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is the traditional greeting around here. Loser's refers, of course, to weight losers, which, unless we are on maintenance, we all are,or aspire to be. On all the threads I have read over the past six months, this is the first questioning the use of the term. something new every day. -
This actually sounds like a good glitch! Onward!

C'mon now, you know the drill about stall posts. You want help, you need to give us some info to work with. What are your protein/carb/calorie goals? Are you tracking what you're eating? If you aren't, start. And track EVERYTHING. What kind of exercise are you doing? How often? How you doing on your fluids? Have you been under significant stress in the past few months? Anything that has distracted you from your plan?

Pregnant 6 months after surgery
2goldengirl replied to nrg33's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
No, you aren't being shunned or punished - pregnancy is your OB-GYN's expertise, not your surgeon's. They are simply deferring to the advice from the doctor and team who are treating your major issue now, which is the pregnancy. They'd do the same if you had a cardiac issue, for example. Edited to add - I know this is an older post, but in case anybody else worried about this. -
Weight gain already?!?!
2goldengirl replied to Andrea72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As you get further out from your surgery, you'll be able to get more in. We promise. In the meantime, do the best you can. Early on, I thinned my Protein shakes with Fairlife milk. That helped them go down easier, they weren't so thick. -
Weight gain already?!?!
2goldengirl replied to Andrea72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, you are freaking out for no reason. You know that gaining 4 lbs of fat in a short period of time is impossible, right? So, that must be a Fluid shift. Could be hormonal (where are you in your cycle?). Could be constipation (when was your last BM?) Could be that now that you're eating more, you've put back the fluid that your body stores along with glycogen (muscle sugar stored in the liver and muscles). You will not be the only person on earth who gains instead of loses with WLS. But it isn't a straight line, either, and you simply have to accept that. Breathe, put away the scale, and keep following your postop instructions. -
Scared bmi was to low
2goldengirl replied to dani.d's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your friends are misinformed. Where your weight stabilizes is largely up to you. The sleeve only provides restriction on the volume of food you eat. -

Whoosh effect and weight loss stalls
2goldengirl replied to xochtlem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It doesn't work that way. Your fat cells empty of volume when you burn fat, but they don't break down or disappear. That said, the body can, and does, choose to hold and release fluids, fats, and lean mass according to the body's own logic, and not necessarily as we would have it. Darnit!. -

Carbohydrates, and weight loss question
2goldengirl replied to sbg224's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't mention total calories. You're doing significant exercise, it's possible your total calories are too low rather than the carbs too high. -
Scared bmi was to low

I'm confused. What are they worried about, exactly? -
Scared bmi was to low
2goldengirl replied to dani.d's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A BMI of 34 may be too low to have your surgery covered by insurance. Most insurers require a BMI of at least 35 with comorbidities, or 40 and above without them. -

That's fantastic! You must feel terrific! -
It would be a great idea for you to spend time with a therapist exploring just why you are sabotaging yourself now, after six months of effort and success. There may be something frightening for you in being successful long term. You definitely wouldn't be the first. Don't punch yourself - talk with "Debbie". Ask her what she needs that she's not getting. Or what she's getting that scares her.

HOw much should we eat one month post op?
2goldengirl replied to juzmejnee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suppose that depends on "partially liquid". What did you have in mind? -
It isn't just fluids that you need - it's fats. So many postop diets make everything fat-free that without some healthy fat you run the risk of not being able to make use of your fat-soluble Vitamins. Make sure there is some form of healthy fat in your diet, even a small amount.

Not ready to embrace another stall!
2goldengirl replied to Sajijoma's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm probably going to have a lot of people disagree with me on this, but you're what, five months out? I'd actually just try increasing your calories before your next NUT appt. and see what happens. It isn't as though you're advancing to different foods, you're just (potentially) increasing your calories. -
Cheating with post op diet
2goldengirl replied to Lucilla's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, having the surgery doesn't take our issues with food away. However, that doesn't mean that we ALL don't have to do whatever we have to do to be successful. Speaking the truth about that isn't judging, it's being truthful. When someone comes to these boards for help, I'm not going to blow smoke and tell them something isn't a risk when I know otherwise. Don't think for a minute that the veterans on this board (and I'm not one of them yet, I'm only a few weeks out) haven't struggled as much as anyone else, but they know what it takes to be successful. A huge part of what it takes to be successful is being adult enough to know that we all made a choice when we decided to have surgery. That choice was to agree to follow postop instructions. Not to follow them if we felt like it, or it was easy, or convenient, but to follow them. Period. Even when we're tempted. Even when it's hard. And even when we want to whine about it. -
I think folks may be missing the point of the OP's concern here - I think she was worried that the morning after pill may not have worked because she wasn't having symptoms that she's had previously. Evidently this isn't the first time she's taken it.
