  1. So excited to add puréed foods to my day rather than strictly liquids. Anyone have their meals planned out?
  2. It's sort of tempting to make a fruit smoothie during my puréed stage of journey. But my doc said that once fruit is broken down, it's pure sugar. In fact, he says bananas are "sugar sticks". We shouldn't waste calories on fruit. Anyone having to do this as well?
  3. Tomorrow I start with the puréed food diet. Am I overthinking this? I mean, do I just make supper like I do every day and then just put some of it in the blender and get it to a good consistency? Or do I stick with soups? Baby food? Not sure where to start and maybe I'm being a little cautious.
  4. I am three days post op, and I struggle to get in an 11 ounce protein drink. I have been drinking the Adkins 15 g of protein, and I know that 15 g per day is not nearly enough. Any suggestions as to what I can drink that has higher protein than that?

    Steak?

I'm currently on full liquids, 5 days post op. I know protein is the priority---so does this mean eventually steak will be able to be consumed, even if it's just a couple bites? I can't imagine eating it now, but I assume if it's tender enough there won't be a problem? (Can you tell I'm craving to CHEW on something? Haha)

    Doc says no fruit--EVER

I do understand my plan and I will follow it. They also recommend no more carbonated beverages---ever. (Now hopefully nobody else freaks out about that too, Lol) #tooManyBossyPeopleHere

    Doc says no fruit--EVER

Did you? Not sure if u r aware of this, but every bariatric program is different. If you don't have tolerance for one that is different from yours, maybe just don't comment.

    Steak?

Quite honestly....I cannot wait to have a bite of steak! ????

    Doc says no fruit--EVER

I think he and the nutritionist believe that there is no point in eating so much sugar, that's all. Kudos to them for being brutally honest. I'm fine with it, it is true that once it is being absorbed by the body, there is very little difference between watermelon and candy. It's all sugar. Giving up fruit is obviously something people don't want to accept. But like most things---everything in moderation makes the world go 'round

    One week out

Hi---I had surgery the same day as you :-) Sorry to hear about your complications! Someone once told me to just step on the scale every other week, so that we aren't dwelling on the number. The weight will come off, some weeks more rapidly than others. I'm guessing that once we become a little more active, the weight is going to just melt off. For me, five days postop, I had already lost 18 pounds. Now the scale hasn't budged in three days.... But I'm not too concerned. I will be starting on puréed food today, not really sure what exactly I will be having, it seems so weird just preparing two bites of something, Lol.

    Puréed food ideas

    A spoon. Hahahaha Great idea!

    Doc says no fruit--EVER

I should clarify that the nutritionists agree, and STRONGLY emphasize not wasting calorie consumption on fruit. They compare it to eating a cookie with a vitamin.
  13. I had a two-week liver reduction diet which was pretty much no carbs and high protein. Then two days of clear liquids which was pure torture :-) To me, that was the hardest part.... Those two days.
  14. I was sleeved one week ago today. I know every doctors requirements are different but I need to take A daily multivitamin, 1200 mg calcium citrate, vitamin D3 and vitamin B 12. Everything is either liquid or chewable. They told me no more softgels, ever again. I started with all the vitamins after I got home... Didn't need to bring anything to the hospital. Something I wish I would have known prior to surgery? 1) pain meds were only necessary for 24 hours and 2) One week postop, and I feel completely back to normal :-) Good luck!!
  15. I haven't been able to find any chocolate mint protein shakes so I was thinking about adding a drop of peppermint extract to my premier chocolate protein shake. Has anyone done this? And how does it taste? Any strange reactions to extract? (Like is it too strong for our new tummy to handle?)
  16. so does everyone who has the sleeve have to do the drink thing to check for leaks?I didn't have to do that.

    Tomorrow's THE day!

I had a late afternoon surgery last Monday. Now 6 days post op, I feel great, no pain meds since Tuesday, and am ready to get back to work. You'll do great!
  18. I had surgery on the 29th----everyone warned me about gas pain and vomiting. Well guess what? No gas pain at all, and I have not vomited. Each experience is unique, thank goodness! I feel 100% better and am ready to return to work Good luck to all!! I had surgery on the 29th----everyone warned me about gas pain and vomiting. Well guess what? Steak?

When you say a "problem" with it...what's the problem? Stomach ache? Vomiting? Stuck feeling? I love steak too Just upset stomach...almost like it was too hard to digest. Honestly was the only food that ever gave me an issue. I haven't thrown up once since surgery 14 months ago Haven't thrown up! Yay...so happy for you! That too is my goal in this, I hear so much talk about vomiting and regurgitating--I thought it was inevitable! I'm not usually a "puker" and haven't thrown up yet, hope it stays that way

  22. Well said!! I find it so interesting the different variations of pre-op diets though. I was on a 2 week no/low carb diet, then just two days of liquids....those were the worst. Amazing how the cravings and hunger just disappear with the surgery. I am so grateful!!!
  23. Me too! That one spot is a bugger, and I can't wait for that isolated pain to disappear, it will make it so much easier to move around!
  24. So for all you October 19th sleevers---how are you all doing? I feel like now that we have hit day 5 post op, things are looking good! For me, I'm moving around better, sleeping great, still a little sore, but getting used to my new eating pattern. I've had zero vomiting...no pain meds....and getting up to 40 G protein per day. And 15 pounds lost since Monday! Things are looking up!
