  1. Would anyone be interested in starting a private Facebook group for us?
  2. I'm not in a lot of pain, but my throat is sore and I feel like I have a double ear infection. I'm assuming (and hoping) this is from all the tubes being in my nose and throat.
  3. I feel like a lot of it depends on your age and how active you are before surgery. I was sleeved on 2/1 and the pain immediately after surgery was AWFUL, but by the time they got me to my room, it really wasn't too bad. The next day I was up taking plenty of walks, and that's when it simply felt like I had done too many sit ups. By 2/3 I'm sore, but I'm up doing my normal stuff, even walking my 55 pound puppy! I'm 26 years old and used to walking over 3 miles a day, but I also have a high tolerance for pain. Hope this helps!
  4. I got the call and my surgery has been scheduled for Feb 1st! Anyone else being sleeved around that date?

    Feb. 1st Surgery Date!

I had my final pre-op testing and prep classes yesterday! I went shopping a few weeks ago for liquids, but I keep thinking I need a bigger variety. As for Vitamins, my doctor has a kit that insurance covers, but all vitamins have to chewable or liquid. I just keep trying to not think about the hair loss and loose skin, but I realize I will have to face that reality soon enough.

    Feb. 1st Surgery Date!

I did my shopping for the pre-op diet. The reality of all of this finally hit me! My surgeon requires a two week pre-op diet of 1500 calories a day. I'm terrified that my liver won't shrink enough for surgery, so I'm doing a liquid diet the last five days before surgery. Not sure if that will make a difference or not, but at least I will be mentally prepared for a liquid diet after surgery!

    First Post! Kinda hesitant...

@@drumking88 - I'm glad yours works that way! When I talked to the nurse at the bariatric center I'm working with, I feel like I'm not doing nearly as much as everyone else seems to be. I understand that all surgeons and centers are different, but I guess I'm afraid I'm missing something and surgery won't happen as quickly as I think it's going to. Friday I meet with the Dietician, Mental Health, & Nursing staff in same day. Hopefully the surgeon the next week, then it goes for insurance approval, then surgery with blood work and an EKG before surgery. It almost feels to easy, so my anxiety goes crazy with all of it!

    First Post! Kinda hesitant...

I think I will be too afraid to sleep without the CPAP. I've known I've had sleep apnea for a few years, but didn't have insurance until early last year, so mine was pretty severe when I was finally diagnosed. I'm already scared of sleeping for 10 minutes without it, so I think it will be hard for me to let go of it. So are you waiting on insurance approval or do you have more appointments that you need to complete before sending to insurance?

    First Post! Kinda hesitant...

I'm hoping December or January too. I was lucky and don't have to do much for my insurance to cover it. I'm just waiting on approval. I actually changed insurance providers to not have to wait another a year. There was a mix up with charting with PCP, and long story short, I had to start a process over and it became easier to change my insurance. I'm hoping to submit for insurance approval within the next two weeks. I hope to now more at my next appointment on Friday! The wait is driving me crazy though

I'm 26 and was thinking the same thing! drumking88: How soon do you think you will have your surgery? I'm hoping for December for me

Best KY Medicaid plan to choose for sleeve?

I hope yours and mine goes smoothly... Nov. 6th can't get here soon enough! And that's just a two hour assessment, not my surgery.

Best KY Medicaid plan to choose for sleeve?

In case you don't get it resolved before the end of open enrollment, just know that you can do disenrollment for cause. I was approved pretty quickly, as in new insurance started within 30 days. I just had to write a letter stating why I wanted to change, and they accepted the need for bariatric surgery an acceptable reason.
  14. Is anyone else going through Norton Weight Management Center in Louisville, KY for their VSG? I have my two hour assessment scheduled for Nov. 6th, but I am wondering how long after this the surgery will be scheduled.
  15. I actually did the seminar in August. My insurance (Passport) doesn't require the 6 month wait. I've turned in all of my paperwork, and I had my insurance *verified*. I guess I didn't know I had to do cardiac and pulmonary clearances. Hopefully these clearances go quickly, but I know that is wishful thinking! I also didn't expect this two hour assessment to be scheduled three weeks after the insurance verification. I think the assessment is a psych evaluation, consult with the surgeon, and paperwork, but I'm not positive. I guess I'm still confused!

Best KY Medicaid plan to choose for sleeve?

I realize you posted this a while ago, but I wanted to comment since I'm trying to get approved on KY Medicaid. I've been advised to go with Passport. I started with Humana CS but they required a 9 month physician supervised weight loss program. Passport doesn't require any physcian supervised weight loss program, but I think it depends on your BMI. I'm still working through the approval process, but hope to be approved for surgery before Christmas.

Any singles in or near KY?

I'm in Louisville, but I am still in the approval process waiting for surgery.
  18. I've struggled with anxiety for the last year, but I feel like I have been on a roller coaster the last few months. I made a special appeal to change my insurance provider from one that required a 9 month physcian supervised weight management to one that required none of that with a BMI over 45 (mine is 54). I finally got my insurance verification from the weight management center I am working with for the surgery, which means I have a two hour appointment on Nov. 6th which includes meeting the surgeon, a psych consult, and lots of paperwork. Part of me feels relieved that I finally have a date to look forward to, even if it is only the next step and not a surgery date. I've found it incredibly difficult to concentrate on school work rather than fixating on this surgery, but I know this something that I need done. I'm excited to be moving toward the surgery, but this anxiety is so difficult to deal with!
