    January VSG

Thank you. ???? But is it a closed group or a secret group? If it's closed, people that aren't in the group can still see that you're a member. They can't if it's secret. I don't want anyone on my friends list to be able to see if I'm a member, even if they can't read my posts.well this is very disappointing I joined this group yesterday not knowing my fb friends could see that I'm apart of a sleeve group OMG people I know are so judgmental I really didn't want anyone to know this info about me outside of my family. I just opted out of the group. I'm looking for a secret group. I think I'm going to create another Facebook profile for myself and join under that account. My problem is the opposite of yours. I'm trying to keep my surgery private from my family. Maybe that's something you could try, too...another FB account.

Is the Facebook group a secret group? I'd like to join but I'm concerned about my privacy.

    January VSG

I'm January 20. Best wishes to all of us!
  5. Can anyone explain the difference between the stomach stapling that was done for many years and the sleeve surgery that's being done today? I have a cousin that had his stomach stapled in the 70's, and a few people have asked me the difference between his operation and my upcoming VSG, but I don't know what to say.

Old Skool Stomach stapling vs VSG

Thanks to you both for your replies. I didn't realize in the old fashioned stapling that part of the stomach is NOT removed. I always assumed it was. Now if I'm asked I think I can explain the differences. It's getting close for me. I'll start my pre-op diet on the 6th and my VSG surgery will be January 20. ????

    Short Sleevers?

I'm 5'1", 256 lbs., will be sleeved January 20. It's been great to read the comments on this thread. My biggest WL goals are to be healthier and to be more physically active. I feel like 2016 will be my big metamorphosis year and I can't wait!

    I have a date!

January 20, 2016 is my surgery date! I'm nervous, excited, and relieved all at once. With the holidays approaching and some Last Suppering, I KNOW I'm going to eat more than I should, so I plan to counter the extra calories with more exercise time. The timing feels so good to me. My new beginning will be at the new year. My heaviest weight ever was 256 lbs. In my adult life my lowest was 125, back in my early 20's. I'm 48 now and I just want to be healthier. I quit smoking in October to be able to have this surgery. I take cholesterol and blood pressure meds that I'd like to be able to rid myself of. I no longer drink sodas or use artificial sweeteners. I'm trying very hard to incorporate more fresh foods into my diet and less processed ones. My overall goal is health, but I admit I can't wait to see the numbers on the scale get smaller as well as my clothes size. ???? Cheers to us all for a happy and healthy New Year! ????????
  9. I have friends, a married couple, who had their surgery on the same day. Unfortunately, the wife developed some pretty serious complications post op and had to stay in the hospital for over a week. They both say now that they wish they had waited and had their surgeries separately. Her husband was just recovering and really couldn't be there for his wife like he wanted to, especially early on when she was more critical. It's something you might want to consider when scheduling your dates.
  10. Weighing as much or more than linebackers and heavyweight boxers when I'm a 5"1' female. Attempting to sit in a booth at a restaurant and realizing you won't fit behind the table. Barely fitting and riding uncomfortably in an airplane seat. Reaching all my "I'll never be" milestones, like a two digit clothing size starting with a 2, or I'll never let myself get over 200, 225, 250 lbs. Almost always being the biggest person in a room. Feeling self-conscious ordering food in a restaurant or buying groceries.

    Smoking

I smoked 5 packs a week until a week ago. It is a requirement with my surgeon. I got patches and a Nicotrol inhaler to help, but I haven't used any of the patches and I hardly use the Nicotrol. It's not easy. Being on the phone and driving are the hardest for me, but today is Day 8 for me as a non-smoker. The whole idea of having WLS was to be healthier, so quitting seemed like a natural step in the process. I have only gained a pound. I gave myself a little leeway on the food this past week. My surgeon said since I'm pre-op AND quitting smoking, he'd just be happy if I didn't gain weight, but I'm still down a few pounds with about 80-90 days before surgery. I have already set up a weekly automatic withdrawal from my checking into savings that equals what I spent on cigarettes. That extra $$$ will add up quickly and I'm really stoked about it! Find a motivation that will keep you inspired, consider nicotine replacement, and good luck to you. You can do it!
