    Newby with Fibromyalgia

I was also diagnosed with fibro about 2 years ago. I am scheduled to be banded 5/5/08. In talking with my surgeon and PCP, I know that losing the excess 100 pounds will take a great deal of pressure off my body. I have flares about every month or so lasting usually several days. It may not cure my fibro, but it's got to make me feel better. Good luck!

    I Am Offically Approved !!!!!

Flowerpurr. Good grief, I didn't have to do all that. Had Group class with nutritionist and individual consult. Then psych evaluation, 1 x a month with each nutritionist and my PCP. My PCP did do an EKG early on, but that's all for the testing. I don't have any co-morbities yet at 270 and 5'6" (thankfully).

I actually started the beginning of Feb doing the 3 month thing with my PC and the nutritionist. I had to meet with each one once a month for 3 months. The nutritionist had me track food and begin the eating Protein first, then veggies thing. Also get off caffiene, no diet sodas, no drinking with meals. No drinking with meals has been the hardest because I'm eating normal amounts of food now. Should be easier when I'm doing 2 - 4 oz. at a time. Also got me taking all my Vitamins, etc. Good luck. In case you don't have it, the line for pre-cert checking is 800-245-1206.

    surgry date may 5

Congrats! I'm also scheduled for May 5th. I wish it was next week. After researching for close to a year and reading on here for so long, I am really psyched and ready to go! Good luck!

I would definitely check some other area programs. There are other very qualified docs in Atlanta area other than Emory.

I am scheduled for surgery May 5th, 2008 with Dr. Ryland Scott at the Harbin Clinic in Rome. I have less than a month left on my 3 month pre-op diet sessions as required by my insurance (Aetna). I originally had gone to a seminar at Emory which was very informative. However, I live in Cartersville and the trip to Rome was much more convenient with traffic and all. I feel very comfortable with choosing Dr. Scott. If you want more, info PM me. Elizabeth
  7. I also have Aetna and started my 3-month "multi-disciplinary" diet 2 days ago. Basically I meet with my PC once a month, a nutritionist once a month, and keep an exercise log. Curves would definitely count. I have a herniated disc in my back, so walking is about all I'm able to do now and they said that was fine. Basically what the nutritionist said she is doing to getting me to start eating and acting like I will after having the surgery. Eating Protein first, veggies/fruits, and then carbs. It's basically low carb. She said don't worry about losing weight as much as developing new habits. Also start eating with smaller spoons, not drinking with meals, chew chew chew. I don't think it will be too bad. But I was ready to have surger in March. I've already been to the seminars, nutrition classes, psych evaluation, etc. But now I've got to wait till May. Oh, well.
