Well I got a call today saying that my surgeons office has compiled all my appointments and they have everything they need! So they are submitting it to the insurance company!! Now I get to hurry up and wait. And try not to gain weight.

Do any of you wear things like corsets or shapewear to help smooth out the excess skin? I am starting to save some money for new clothes cuz I know I'm gonna need it and I wonder if this is something that I need to look in to.

I'm headed in to my Family doc to see if I can talk with him to get some more info from him. I LOVE my doc however I am fairly annoyed with his lack of notes on this. We have been talking for 3 ish years about my weight we have tried different meds and different diets and some would work and some would not but they never worked for long. I'm just annoyed that out of 3 years he had 2 appointments that he submitted to my surgeon.

Thanks for this. It makes me not feel bad for getting upset with my doc yesterday. I did put my foot down and was extremely honest with him. I told him I was upset at the way that he had documented our appointments.

I work a desk job, and just started a whole new department with in my company. I plan on having the surgery as soon as I am able. I can telecommute if I need to however I had a co worker who Was doing the same job I was before I moved up and she did it over a long weekend. As far as I know there are only 3 of us other than HR who knows about her surgery. She took off 2 days had the surgery Friday and was back to work on Tuesday. I will do the same thing. My department is in its busy season and will only get busier as the holidays come and go. However I know that sitting at my desk will be just fine. But that's me. If you have had surgeries before and know how you react to things you can use that to help judge. But like others have said. It's all up to you. Talking to your surgeon is a great idea. Maybe also talking to your supervisor at work may be a good idea.

Thank you so much for this post. It really helps me to know there are people going through what I know I am going to go through. I have an aunt that tried to ruin my relationship with my now husband, and was mad at me when she failed, would not talk to me for a year after I had my first kid, and complains about me to my mom whenever I do something that she wants to do but won't get off her duff and do. I know as soon as I start loosing weight she will flip. But I can do this and I am doing not for me and my family not anyone else. But it's awesome to know that other people have family that acts like mine do.

So things are moving along nicely. I have met with my surgeon and he is awesome!! I do have to travel 3 hours one way to see him but his group is the only one in the state of Idaho that is approved by my insurance and that's ok with me. I have met with the psych and he gave me a green light I have my prep classes scheduled for the next couple weeks Everything has been going fantastically until today. I found out that of the 3.5 years worth of appointments that I have been seeing my PCP he only has notes for 3 visits that we talked about diet and exercise. My insurance needs 6 months. I'm more annoyed at his lack of notes than the added time. I had fully planned on 6 full months of visits because I didn't know that my insurance would allow back dated visits. But after talking to my surgeon he is like oh we can do this by the end of the year! But then we found out that my doc SUCKS at keeping good notes. Oh well February is sooner than April!

Did anybody get surgery only letting minimal people know?

(I am pre surgery) so far my husband, one co worker, my mother in law (kinda knows) my parents, and 2 friends know. My boys are only 8&5 we will tell them after we have a date. My one coworker knows because she is the one that actually pushed me off the fence about it and has been a HUGE support and a fountain of knowledge of how to work with the insurance company ( she is 8 weeks post) I REALLY hesitated telling my parents because my mother had a failed lapband and is somewhat emotionally unstable but I need there help to watch my kids occasionally for appointments and during surgery. My dad has been extremely supportive my mom not so much but not against it ether. It's all really confusing with them. My mother in law knows because she lives with us and she asks too many questions so it was just easier to tell her than lie. And then I told one friend because she is a nutritionist and had worked on a program with her for 6 months and thought I would use her records. THAT WAS A HUGE mistake. She went off the handle. Chewed me out for an hour. I left that conversation in tears and was ready to just back out and be fat forever. Because she flat out told me that I would fail because I failed at her super strict plan. As I was leaving another friend called me I answers bawling and just spilled my guts to her and she was and is sooooo supportive. At this point I have no plans to tell anyone else. -
Do you have a favorite blog that you follow for someone who has gone through the sleeve surgery? I have found a couple but they are not active any more. I would like to find some who are active but if you have an awesome one i would love to see it.

What is some advice you would give someone who is just starting their journey? I am about 4 months out and Wanting to be very successful. I have started making changes with the way I eat (protein first, water spread out through the day) but what do you wish someone would have told you before you had the sleeve.

Another step in the right direction and an emotional eating question
Kspot42 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw my Family doc yesterday. It was a great appointment. He is behind my decision 100%! E is very supportive and very interested in giving me the support I need. I originally had it in my head that I wanted to have this surgery as quickly as possible. But after lots of research and thoughts and prayers I want to do this the right way. I feel that the program my surgeon and my insurance have is a good program and is going to help me be successful in the long term so that I don't gain back what I loose a few years down the road. I am excited to go down this road to improving not only my physical health but my mental Heath also. I have already started a list of " acheavments" that I want over this adventure. My husband and I are big gamers and he is helping me come up with acheavments and rewards that are not food related. I have also been thinking of ways to beat the mindless eating and emotional eating. Any one have any suggestions for me? I emotional eat A LOT! -
It's looking like February or March might be my month! Looking forward to the journey!

Another step in the right direction and an emotional eating question

My doc is around 40. So not really young but not really old ether. If I come to him with research and I am ready to talk about things he is more likely to do what I want than if I come to home with no info. I had found some new studies that he had not seen and he will bring his own info also. We both make each other work towards an agreement and I love it because I learn and he is willing to learn also. What kinds of things do you do to stay active? -

From the album: Before surgery
Senior year. Probably a size 18 or 20. -
Hello everyone. I am beginning my journey and I found these forums and I hope you can help me. So I'm not quite sure how intros go here so I will just wing it I am a 34 year old mom to two boys. I love my boys and my husband. I am also an AppleCare senior advisor. I have been over weight my whole life. But I have reached my all time high after having a total shoulder replacement due to trama. So far: I have chosen my surgeon, and have had my first meeting with him. It was not a one on one but I'm confident. I have talked to my insurance company and have there list of requirements, I have talked to my REGULAR DOC. and I am 2 months in to the required 6 month Doctor managed weight. My next appointment with him is Monday. I have the support of my husband ( who is also considering the surgery) I have told my mother in law which was a neutral expiriance I have told my parents and that went much better than expected. My mother had a band and had to have it removed due to blockage and a horrible doc. I have told 2 friends one was extremely supportive. The other freaked out. I probably won't tell anyone else. I would love to know what kind of diets your docs put you on before surgery. I have done a TON of research and I feel that I am ready for this. Firmly grounded in reality.

It has been a roller coaster. My weight is fluxuating all over the place but at th start of the 2 months and now I weigh exactly the same. But have lost as much as 7 lbs. my hormones are a mess and I think that is what is causing the weight flux. But besides that I am gaining a sense of peace about my decisions and my emotions have defiantly improved.
