How did you decide your goal weight, and did you reach it?
mokt replied to JupiterinVirgo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am with Babbs on this one. I was sleeved last November and set my goal to 190 as I remember feeling good and healthy at that weight and couldn't imagine being any smaller. I am 5'7" and Almost a year later and I am down to 135 lbs. I am letting my body go to it's natural set point. Most of the people in my life think I am too skinny, but really it has more to do with them not being used to seeing me this size....not to mention that most people are carrying extra weight. Your body's natural weight might be less than what you ever could have imagined....I say go with it and be the healthiest you can be, especially after going through this surgery and especially with the knowledge that most people regain some of the weight after 2 years. Best of luck! -
Hi there, I went into having the gastric sleeve without knowing that I had a clotting disorder (Factor V) and only found out 2 months ago when they found extensive portal vein clots. I have been on anticoagulants since. I thought I would write because you are both pre-op and I am someone who has been through the surgery with a predisposition to clotting. I do not regret doing the surgery. It is the best thing I ever did, even with the clotting complications. I have loss 160lbs in almost a year and I feel both lighter emotionally and obviously physically....I think knowing that you have a history of clots or a genetic predisposition to clotting will really assist your bariatric surgeon in trying to prevent clots from occurring during your surgery and during recovery. I really hope your hematologist gets onboard and is more supportive of your decision to do this surgery. Best of luck to both of you and hoping you both have an uncomplicated surgery and recovery

I actually just found out that I have the Factor 5 gene mutation. I had my surgery in November 2015 and have had intermittent pain since. I found out that I have portal vein thrombosis (clotting in my liver veins) and I have been urgently referred to the hematologist. I will see him tomorrow morning. Not sure what this means overall, but I wish that I had known in advance that I had this mutation so that precautions could have been taken prior to surgery. I am still so very happy I went ahead with the surgery as I have had great success, and despite my pain I have actually never felt better. Have any of you had any blood clots, specifically in the liver?

I was just diagnosed with portal vein thrombosis today and am waiting to see the specialist. Can anyone share their story and what treatment you received and how you are doing today? Many thanks! -

My back hurts everytime I drink anything
mokt replied to Delia1434's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My back and stomach area will hurt whenever I drink anything too fast and get too much air in. Also as so,won't else said, it's an indication that I have had too much to drink regardless if it's just Water. Try slowing down how quickly you drink your liquids and take sips ra here than gulps. Makes. A big difference. Good luck! -
Congrats!!! You look amazing and should be so proud!

102 lbs gone babeeee! Post-op GB 35 weeks
mokt replied to heather5565's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congrats! You look amazing! I am down 103 pounds today since my surgery in mid November and couldn't be happier! I have my life back and I feel fantastic! Congrats again and enjoy! -
Great to hear we're around the same place for caloric intake. Weight loss has slowed for me as well. I think that is natural though as we move further away from our surgical date. I agree though with what I have heard from others about ensuring you get enough protein and water. I find that really effects my weight loss. All the best!

I had my sleeve in Novemebr as well and I am currently eating around 600-700 calories. Not sure if it's what I Should be eating but it's all I am able to eat. I still have tons of energy. Hope it helps!
-
Congratulations! You have done fantastic! It's great to see those kinds of results in such a short period of time. You must be doing everything right! Congrats again and keep it up!

Sorry to hear you are going through this but am glad that you are able to take in more calories. May I ask what it felt like to have this? What were your symptoms? I have been having problems since the beginning. Abdominal pain right where my stomach is, intermittent nausea and since being on solids food will get stuck in my throat making me unable to eat more. I am consuming about 500cal a day. I am meeting with my doctor tomorrow to discuss. I wish you continued success and hope that you are able to move onto more "normal" eating as you put it. Best of luck!

Pain 3 months out - just slow healing?
mokt replied to mokt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone for your advise. I have a Followup appointment with my family doctor tomorrow. Hoping he'll order an endoscopy, as I am still in pain and food gets stuck after I eat. I have also been eating less due to pain so hopefully I get some resolution soon. I feel great though otherwise...just want to figure out what is going on thanks again! -
Pain 3 months out - just slow healing?
mokt posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 months out and continue to have abdominal pain in the centre of my abdomen and on the left side by my stomach. I have been to the ER twice and nothing was found - they did chest X-ray, blood work and abdominal ct scan. The pain will interfere with eating, and daily activities as well as keep me from exercising. I just wonder if others went through this? Pain, with no real cause I guess other than slowly healing? I don't want to risk something being missed... It really hurts and I am so surprised to be feeling this way so long after my surgery after feeling well for the most part. Thanks for sharing your experiences. -
Hi Miker1, I had my sleeve done in Montreal in November and I had all of the same fears you mention in your post, with of course my largest fear being death and leaving my two young children behind. I went into the surgery at almost 300lbs and I am 5'8", so my BMI was 44. I did mine privately in Montreal and I only spent 1 night in the clinic and was then moved to a hotel where I had round the clock nursing care for another 2 days. Everything went very well and so far no major issues. I also found out after my surgery that I had severe sleep apnea that I was completely unaware of and despite that everything went well and no complications with the anesthetic. I am currently 3 months out and have lost 70lbs as of yesterday. No one can predict what your outcome will look like, and nor do I have an understanding of what your comorbidities are and what type of risk factors you have, however, just know that I was petrified as well and deeply concerned about the surgery even up until then brought me into the OR and yet everything worked out just fine. It's natural to be scared because it's such a big decision. So far I have had no regrets and am extremely happy I did this - for myself and for my children with whom I am more involved with now because I can move better and because I am happier. Where are you having your surgery done?

Finally, after 15 years, I am in ONEderland!
mokt replied to nikisa's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations!! I know exactly how you feel - it's so amazing to be able to say "yes" to everything and to feel great participating in life! I feel like I am no longer on the sidelines watching. I am able to play with my kids, do what I love (bike long and hard, downhill ski, go to amusement parks, go swimming etc) and just be more present in everything that I do because I am no longer uncomfortable with the way my body moves. I feel light physically and emotionally and it is such a great feeling! Congrats again!! -
Hi there, It is very normal to have incision pain, especially this soon after surgery. We all heal at different rates and experience pain differently therefore don't expect your experience to be like anyone else's. I had very noticeable pain for around 2months and even at 3 months since my surgery if I physically overdo it I can still have pain. Hope you feel better soon!

WLS and IBD (UC or Crohns)
mokt replied to shrinkingkimber's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I actually just found out that I had Crohns last week (I apparently have had it for years, but just thought my stomach problems were all related to my poor eating) and had my sleeve done two months ago. I asked my surgeon if he would have still preformed the surgery had he known I had Crohns and he said that he would and that the sleeve was preferable to gastric bypass. my physician actually thought the sleeve may help me with my Crohns in the long run as I am eating better and making healthier choices. Hope all goes well for you! Best of luck! -
I had the same issue around 14 days post op. I was so itchy!! Turns out is is very normal and very common, due to dehydration, hormone changes and well it just being winter. I thought I was going insane I was so itchy. What worked for me though was really increasing my fluid intake and lots and lots of cream. Best of luck....it was pass fortunately

Shoe size?
mokt replied to jhclikesshopping@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have experienced this as well! I am only 2 months out and have lost about 50 lbs since surgery and have already noticed that all of my footwear is too big. I never considered my feet to be fat so I never thought they would get smaller....I guess it's a great excuse to go shoe shopping! -
This has been very helpful for me at least. I have been consciously trying to slow down my eating as well as trying to really pay attention to what foods seem to make it worse. I have gone back to a little more of a softer diet and although I am still having issues it seems to be better. Thank you for sharing your advice.

Hi there, I am 2 months out since surgery and keep having upper left flank pain and back pain parallel With my stomach. I went to the ER before Christmas because I was in so much pain, and I was told nothing was wrong after an EKG, blood work, and Chet's X-ray. I guess I just wondered if any of you have had chronic pain in this area this far out from surgery? And if so, how long did it take for you to not been in any pain? Thanks for your responses!
-
Thanks. They already checked for a kidney infection while at the ER and it came back negative. I think now it's just residual pain from the surgery and that maybe I am just a very slow healer. I just wondered if others, at 2 months out and further, experienced similar pain? Did it take others who had the surgery this long to heal?
