    DO NOT DO IT

So sorry to hear of all what happened to you! You've been through a lot! But I'm a bit confused... are you looking at a different surgery to do or are you on here to tell your story of your experience in hopes to scare others out of weight loss surgery? Your bad experience is rare and unique but I don't think it's common at all. (Of course I don't have exact stats in front of me) I hope you are on the mend and recovered from your terrible ordeal. Take care

    Ready to start again

To ShantelleElaine: I'm pretty sure in the rules you are not supposed to bash someone else's surgery choice. What happened to you is very sad and unfortunate but that doesn't mean the band is for nobody.. it just wasn't for you. If I were either wced or bandedDiva10, I don't think I'd like such a negative and horrific response. .. especially when they still have their band in place! What happened to you doesn't mean it'll happen to everyone. I had the band for 5 years, it worked, I lost weight, the restriction helped but unfortunately in the end my body was rejecting it. I was sad to see my tool go away. I'm not saying that I hated the band or it sucked or whatever; I'm just saying that for some people it's not the correct tool. Some of us found out the hard way is all.

    16 weeks Post op

That has got to be the best success story I've heard yet! That is incredibly inspiring and I hope to have at least 75% of that success at my 16 week mark. (I didn't go 100% because I just don't think you can be beat!) Just amazing!
  8. So sorry for your loss

    Returning to work

I tried to go back to my desk job after two weeks but the moment I did I experienced nausea and loose BM'S for that entire week and then some. Everyone thought I went back to work too early... which now I believe them. Today is 4 week post op and am going back to work gradually ( like work my way up to 8 hours again) I also nurse on the side - if I was full time nursing I wouldn't be thinking of going back to work for at least a couple more weeks. Good luck and hopefully all goes smoothly

    Halloween ????

Oh my gosh! Someone who shares my love of cereal!! I ADORED cereal pre op. Ate it for breakfast, ate it for lunch, ate it for dinner, ate it for a snack (not always of course, but always an easy "go to" when I didn't feel like cooking). Probably why I got up to 235 pounds, lol. I really miss it. And the more sugary, the better. I was eyeing the Count Chocula in the store the other day with fondness.... Hahahaha yep it was eaten many times in a day sometimes. When my husband worked the eve/night shift I'd have cereal for dinner. Another cereal that I couldn't stay away from was Raisin Bran. But I'd have it with cream not milk. Can't believe I just admitted that. Lol My husband doesn't like cereal so there's none in the house so I'm safe. Hahaha not that I'd eat it now anyways but still, don't need it taunting me!
  11. I don't enjoy food post op either. I am never hungry and have to make myself eat. This is very new to me!! Was never a problem pre op... obviously! hahaha I too hope one day I'll actually enjoy the taste of food again

    Halloween ????

The real bear are the cereal, bread and stuff normal people should eat in healthy portions but had become my "healthy snacks" and contributed to my obesity. They should be able to have that in the house and I am doing better and better about not snacking on bread or cereal just because it is there. I am nearly 4 years post op and finally feel like I can walk buy Life Cereal and milk without the need to eat it. Damn you Mikey! Kids hate everything but I apparently LIKE everything! Omg I totally cracked up with this! I too LOVE CEREAL! ESPECIALLY LIFE! "Hey Mikey! He Liked it!" Love love love cereal. But not the regular kid with all the sugar stuff like fruit loops... no wait, I love fruit loops.. Ok not cereal like captain crunch etc The basic cereal like life, shreddies, and cheerios. Oh and frosted mini wheats. Oh and cracklin' oat bran - which I haven't seen in like 20 years Yeah I love cereal. Lol

    1/2cup of food

I'm 4 weeks gastric bypass and my SUGGESTED diet plan intake amounts for an egg is 1/4-1/2 cup. But the operative word is "suggested." You don't have to eat what the diet plan says. Most likely you may never will. I have not once been able to eat the suggested amount. You have to slow down and really concentrate on what your body is telling you. I stop when all of a sudden I have this overall body "blah" feeling, or when I look at my meal and think "meh, I'm done." Remember your brain has to catch up to your stomach to realize it's full... by that time it could be too late; your stomach could be over full and you might find yourself unwell and/or experiencing dumping syndrome. Good luck and keep working with your tool

    I guess its my turn!

You my friend, are AWESOME!!!! Very big congrats to you and your story is inspiring Not sure why a coworker would belittle you while at a work gathering - she had NO right to do that and it was a horrible thing to do. Did you talk to her about it? Bring it up to your boss? Isn't that some sort of harassment? Do you want me to kick her butt for you? I'm still hefty (for now) so I can throw my weight at her!!
  16. I have a few: 1) I was diagnosed with DRESS syndrome in March 2015 - it would be terrible if I developed diabetes or heart issues but couldn't take medications for it (they both run in the family, my grandpa had his 1st heart attack at age 38, my mom at mid 40's.... I'm turning 40 soon) So after my second bout of DRESS in July, it really woke me up and made me think of my future. Trying to nip all possible future co-morbidities now that are or could be related to obesity. 2) went for a mini getaway with my sister in July and the absolute fear of not being able to find a wet suit or life jacket big enough for the white Water rafting practically paralyzed me. The next day we took our mountain bikes to ride a trail that supposedly people could ride their mountain bikes on. Pfffft who I have no idea because it was a treacherous trail and there was no way in hell we could ride our bikes on it. So we walked it while pushing our bikes. NOT FUN AT ALL! it was probably one of the toughest "workouts" I've ever done. It took us almost 4 hours and in the end my sister had to help me with my bike trekking it up super steep rocky terrain after she'd already gotten her bike up and had to come back down to help me with mine. Ugh!! And then afterwards we went to another touristy thing and we took the Gondola to the peak of a mountain and then I sat there while she hiked up the rest of the mountain for the best view. I sat there for over an hour. 3) a couple weeks after that mini getaway with my sis, we went for an EASY mountain trail ride... in 10 minutes I was so out of breath and had to tell her I wasn't up for it. (Although at the time I was still recovering from a flare up of DRESS and on high doses of steroids so that also wiped me out) We turned around and then the next thing I knew I was flying over my handle bars and crashed into the bushes. I think I passed out. I couldn't stop screaming from the pain for a good 15 minutes. My sister was helpless and I couldn't get up. Had some people help me and the worst part was that 2 paramedics, and 2 firemen had to come into the forest to get me... it took all 4 men to hoist me up onto the stretcher. Not to mention that they were all very nice to look at. Absolutely humiliating!! My poor sister was probably so embarrassed too because I made such a scene when I fell. I couldn't help it - I have never ever been in that much pain! I thought I broke my kneecap but nope just bruised it. It is now 3 months later and it's still swollen and bruised! I also bruised some ribs but those healed quickly. My poor sister! Anyways long winded reasons but those are my biggest most recent reasons.

Food has lost its grip on me

That made me laugh out loud because I totally know where you're coming from! "Wanna go to a movie?" Why yes I do!!! Don't care which one because I'm not actually going to the movie for the movie... I'm going because of MOVIE POPCORN! (with a little bit of butter in the middle and a little bit on top) I thought for sure it would KILL ME to go to a movie and smell my most favorite treat in the whole wide world... but it didnt. Not sure if that is the whole "change of smells after surgery thing" or that my mind has let go and I've gone awhile without (yummy) bad food and the cravings are on the down low. Either way I'm happy and I know that some day I'll have movie popcorn again but when I go to a movie - it's for the entertainment and not a binge-in-plain-sight-but-its-dark-so-nobody-sees-me kind of outing.
  20. I don't think you can do it on your phone. Just pc -Login -click on your username/profile -click on ticker and then the process starts from there (I believe) For weight loss -I actually think when you click on ticker then in the right hand corner it'll say something like "Total pounds lost in bariatricpal" Then input your before weight and your current weight I'll check my account on my pc when I get out of the tub ... hahaha For my weight loss; I'm 3.5 week post op I started incorporating solid foods this week I drink my Water I eat my Protein (my doc standards are 50-70gm a day so I've been hitting that daily with food) I take my Vitamins etc It's a science for sure but I think I'm getting better at it! At 2 weeks I was down exactly 20 lbs so your 15 lb weight loss is pretty darn awesome! Keep it up!! I didn't have a preop diet. (Well not one that the doc had me on but I did my own but didn't lose anything. Ugh!) If I told you misinformation about the ticker and how to change your weight then I apologize, but I will double check my pc in a little while for you Heather
  21. This is an amazing weight loss! !! I wanna be you at my 3 month mark!!!!! Good for you and I totally agree... I LOVE this site and love all of the support and help we get from other peeps Keep up the amazing work! !!
  22. Absolutely exactly what Notinks said.
  23. I'm with you on smells!!!!! Some smells (food) would make me chatter and salivate like a cat looking at a bird thru a window... pre surgery... Now those same smells make my tummy turn sometimes. It actually helps though so maybe it's a good thing!! Lol

    Travel after surgery

I had surgery in Quebec Canada but live in British Columbia Canada; it was a 6-7 hour flight home. It was fine for the most part. Just get out of the car more often then you normally would to walk around a bit.
  25. Hi all, I know I know - ewwww but I have to ask I am 3 weeks post-op (tomorrow) and for the last 6 days or so I have had bad bouts of ... um..well.... diarrhea. UGH so gross! I just need to know if this is normal. I am guessing it is because the basis of my diet since surgery has been mostly fluids with only very small meals of full fluids/soft foods. Am I correct in thinking that this is all part of it and when I start eating more solid foods that this horrible disgusting issue will reside? also, do you wanna be my friend? haha Heather
