    Had my band out yesterday!

Maraki - I had band out and revision to bypass on the 26th. I have been miserable ever since. My left shoulder was put into a not normal position during surgery, possibly had been dislocated. Since my band has been in since 2010 and has been out of place, there was a lot of scar tissue that had to be removed, so my belly was very swollen and large bruises near every incision. Where the port had been was and still is the worst. It is about 3 inch long incision, and is so swollen that the incision is nearly buried. Iam on 8, 5mg oxycodone per day plus 2, 40mg oxycontin er for pain. So far the first week I have been completely useless and have had troubles getting in fluids on protein, the only thing I have positive to say is that I know it's getting better, and my Dr's and support staff have been fantastic. My weight loss so far since beginning preoperative diet is 32 pounds. I don't see it in the mirror but I know when I put clothes on, and friends are shocked when they see me. So for me, all the pain and emotional fighting I've had has been worth it.

    Fever after surgery

Thought I better update today, since Thursday I have had a temperature ranging from just over 100 degrees to as high as 103. My Dr was notified on Friday, I was told to continue taking 500 mg Tylenol every 2 to 4 hours, and if I started passing bloody stool to go to er immediately. Dr felt fever was from my body being rundown from preop diet and that some nurse decided it was a good idea to give me a pneumonia shot and a flu shot right before I was discharged. My temp peaked at 103.5 last night and I soaked my clothes through as well as the bedding by 6am. Now my temp is just under 100 and I am beginning to feel better. So I hope that is the case.
  7. Will your dr. even do the surgery if you have not followed the plan? Have you lost any weight yet at all?

    Fever after surgery

It said to call if I had fever over 101 after checking 4 hours apart. I called the Dr and talked to his nurse. Probably end up going back in now, just waiting to hear back

    Surgical date

I am still in hospital. Hopefully be getting out today
  10. Seems like as I get nearer to my surgery date on the 26th, the more of a roller coaster ride I feel like I am on! Things people say to me I am more sensitive too, especially my wife. I'm not sleeping well either. Since they had me stop taking nsaids I've been wracked with pain. I've been taking Naproxen for 10 plus years for arthritis and now to just stop. And I've made some stupid decisions with money as well. As i sit here and think about things it makes me wonder what is in store for me after surgery. The first month restrictions are pretty similar to prep diet it appears, so i am wondering if this emotional roller coaster will continue. Can anyone share their experiences?
  11. Good luck to all my fellow bypass patients! Big day for us tomorrow, I am so ready and can't wait. 5am is too far away!
  12. Oct. 26th is my day! I'm scared, I'm excited, I'm nervous, I'm happy, I'm emotional and I am so looking forward to waking up after surgery. I'm probably overly prepared, but better that than having surprises right? The bypass worries me less than the removal of the failed lap band. I keep having a recurrent dream that I wake up from surgery and all that was done was remove the lap band. Anyway, I hope and pray this is the answer to all my prayers of getting helth again for myself and my family. My father died when he was my age, and I don't want my son to have to live without his Dad too, and my Grandkids as well. So the hard part of the journey for me I think is nearly over, after surgery I know I will be great!

    One more day!

Just drank the magnesium citrate, so i don't think I will be very active today. Good thing football is on!

    One more day!

Thank you! Way back in 2010 I had asked for the bypass and was told the lap band was so much better and easier. They told me once I hit the sweet spot I'd be in a whole new world of losing weight. After that it was pure chaos
  15. Yes, it's the same GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60.
  16. I am so ready for Monday, it cant come soon enough. I am havinga bit of a freak out fest on occasion though. I realized I had gotten regular vitamin B12 instead of sublingual, so that meant a trip to GNC, that ended up being a 200 dollar trip! I got more protein powder, a unflavored and a peanut butter flavor. The peanut butter is pretty darn good! I use the GNC Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60, mixed with water is yucky, but I use Soy or Almond milk, vanilla flavored and they are good. My wife hasa shake every morning for breakfast now so we also got a peppermint flavor. Im sure I wont sleep muchtonightor tomorrow though.

    Surgical date

3 to 5 protein shakes a day, clear liquids all day, no coffee, no alcohol, none of the liquids should be over 5 calories per saving and have no carbs. Can have sugar free jello made from box and 2 cups of broth, or 1/2 cup tomato juice, and can have sugar free popsicles. Diet _as for 14 days.
  18. Live in Wisconsin, insurance is through my wife in Illinois, Blue Cross!
  19. Much, much better night last night, whew what a relief it was to find out it was a mistake I made and not pain I would have to continue to experience. In hindsight I should have noticed I felt ok during the day after taking morning meds, then by 6pm I started aching in my joints and it got worse as night went on. Anyway, I'm glad I noticed it!
  20. All of the stress of life and preparing for surgery has caught me in a discombobulated brain function. I have been in so much pain, then tonight as I was talking my nighttime meds I realized I hadn't put my oxycontin in the daily containers since sunday......no wonder I have been miserable, let's see if that makes a difference tonight!

    Insurance and supplements

I just tried with Insure Nutrition, which advertises on this site. Had a call from them yesterday but have not heard if my insurance will cover it or not. I think its a long shot but one worth trying. I will let you know if it works.
  22. My general practitioner and bariatric Dr. both sent letters to my insurance company outlining necessity of band removal and conversion to rny without the customary 6 month program. I was approved in two weeks and surgery scheduled October 26th, 4 weeks after insurance approval. In that 4 weeks I was still required to attend readiness classes and go through the typical physical and mental tests required. In the end it came down to quality of life and expectancy of life for insurance company. So, maybe talk to your Dr's and see if they can help push it through. Good luck.
  23. I thought I was fully prepared for this liquid diet, this being the second time around. First time was in 2010 with a lap band that failed. I remembered how miserable this was so I was gradually working towards it. I even thought I had found shakes I could tolerate and water additives that would make it easier. So here I am 10 hours into my first day and I feel like warmed up doggiie doo! The shakes taste horrible already, Im really tired and I took a nap and had gastric reflux (never had that before), to top it off I got the trots. So, all in all pretty much its going to be just as fun as it was the last go around. And I suppose because Im still pissed about lap band failure, it doesnt make it any easier. Just thought I would vent a bit. Im keeping a journal so Ican someday help someone else out or at least look at it and laugh.
  24. Just an update, day 9 and I feel good. It has gotten better each day. Been cooking a lot and pureeing and freezing in ice cube tray, then rebagging for freezer so that after surgery will be easier for the first month! I am so ready for surgery!
  25. In the middle of prep diet and I am constantly cold, is that normal?
