Weight loss Surgery W/ RA
retzlpa replied to ktscott's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have degenerative arthritis, was on nsaids for well over 10 years plus narcotics. I had the lap band in 2010. The nsaids contributed to the erosion of that. I had bypass in October and have had to stop nsaids completely. So that defiantly needs to be part of your decision. Can you live without nsaids after surgery. I'm finding that to be very hard to do! -
Horrible lesson learned!

Understanding my blood work (help)
retzlpa replied to Kathy Coop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Not a Dr. but I can see from blood work you are probably anemic and possibly dehydrated. I suggest you find a better Dr. -
I'm so tired of the people who aren't afraid to call you fat, or a big guy or overweight or whatever they feel like saying! Since my surgery 10/26/2015 I have lost 50 pounds, I am stalled but continue to see the non weight loss victories. I go to the gym 3 days a week, in addition I walk everyday, not miles but I keep moving. I've lost over 6 inches off my waste alone. BUT......those same people still have nerve to say something, an example would be when I go to my men's club meeting we have breakfast. I have a scrambled egg, a slice of bacon and a nearly burnt 1/2 piece of toast, and I get told that maybe I should try eating the oatmeal instead. I've even been told to sit somewhere else because you're a big guy and people won't get by you. The best was when I was told "sure you lost some weight, but you won't be able too keep it off for long." I try to let it slide for the most part, but kind of lost it last Thursday when I told a woman, after she said I was a really big guy, I said "well I am fat, and you are old and ugly, and I know I can lose weight, but you will always be ugly." I know, wrong thing to say but I'm having more and more trouble shutting up!

First off, this can be a sign of a very serious medical problem! If the ridges are running up and down its probably calcium related or a sign of malabsorbtion. If they are running sideways........call your Dr. In the morning. This is a bad sign, this could be a very serious disease or worse, it's also a sign of arsenic poisening!

Has anyone found the journey after surgery easy?
retzlpa replied to WannabeH's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hell no! It's never easy, never will be. It's like being an alcoholic and quitting drinking, it's a life long achievement to eat properly and exercise. Some have it easier at first and no matter what they eat, the weight falls off, then 5 or 6 years down the road they learned nothing and it all creeps back on! But, it can be as easy as you make it by making eating right and exercise a habit! -
I use GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60. Mixed with either Fairlife milk or Soymilk. Holiday flavors are a welcome change. Candy Cane and pumpkin spice. Normal flavors are peanut butter, chocolate, banana creme, vanilla, strawberry and unflavored, which I add to greek yogurt.

@@OKCPirate my wife thinks it's funny, so do I but I won't admit that to her! And it is like being 13 again......no control at all!

P remade shakes! Or if the room has a fridge take your powder along and mix you own. If you are on pureed, scrambled eggs smashed on plate, then chewed 30 plus times.

Well, I put a person in his place after his last fat joke he will make to me! I blasted him not only with his insensitivity to heavy people, but to his general idiotic attitude about everything. He makes everything a stupid joke or comment. He's a narcissist and I told him so. The other people with us just sat there with jaws dropped. When I was done, he actually made the statement that since I'm acting like a girl, I must be on the rag. One of the other people, an older lady blew a gasket on him. He got up and left and on way out the door told the clerk to put his bill with mine. I refused to pay and told them to call the cops for theft. They didnt, and told me I should pay for upsetting him so much. I paid my bill and told the owner thanks for the years of coffee and conversation, but I would never be returning and I left. The owners husband called to try to smooth things over, but I explained to him my need for peace and supportive people in my life and that as long as his wife felt as she did, I did not need that non supportive attitude. I feel kind of free now

The Official What You Will Need For Your Upcoming Weightloss Surgery Thread!
retzlpa replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
A journal and pencil. Write down everything you feel before and as soon as you are coherent, after surgery and do this everyday until you decide you have chronicled all you need -
Surgery 10/26/15, lost 40 pounds by 11/19/15 and then pow......I stalled! Nothing I do gets the scale to move! Increase protein, increase water, decrease protein, increase water, eat more, eat less, talked to nut, she said increase protein, so I'm back at that again. I'm here in rant and rave cause its where this belongs! And to top it off, the more protein I eat, the louder, the longer and the stinker my farts are! I'm done complaining, but I'm still not happy! I'd eat a Christmas cookie or 12 in my old days to feel better but I know if I did that now I'd probably crap my pants in public! Ok, now I'm done! Thanks for listening to me computer screen.

55 male in southern Wisconsin. Was banded 2010 and it failed, had band removed and revision to rny on 10/26/15. I'm struggling with failure fears. I lost 40 pounds quickly after surgery, by 11/19/15, then stalled. Been stalled since then and trying to not lose hope as the lap band failed. Could use some guidance from someone non judgemental who will be truthful through this journey. Thank you!

Where are all the 50 something bypass patients?
retzlpa replied to choosehope's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
A slow loser is still a loser! And in here we are all proud to be losers! -
I looked through everything I have gotten before and after surgery from my nut and I don't see anything that tells me what my maximum carbs should be per day. I would call my nut and ask, but it's a weekend so I was hoping someone here would have a guideline number. Thanks!

I have been specifically watching protein and tracking everything on myfitnesspal, I just started noticing the carbs and the old diet crap snuck in my head and said "um, hellooooo, we are carbs"

Where are all the 50 something bypass patients?

As pinkgirl1234 said - the pain doesn't go away. Arthritis lives in me no matter what I weigh! The weight loss and diet changes help with the control of the pain though -
Embrace the Stall
retzlpa replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I stalled weight wise on Nov. 17 and still stalled! BUT - my clothes keep getting looser, today I ran an entire mile on the treadmill instead of walking fast. I still eat and drink healthy and I feel dam good. I still weigh every day and chart it, mainly cause I'm a statistics kind of guy and love to predict trends and control numbers and all that geeky stuff. Plus I'm ahead of schedule still on percent lost. -
Today, because I saw this post, I too put on a bikini! Then the strangest thing happened - my wife walked in and said "what the hell are you doing?", I'm guessing the bikini didn't fit yet!

I keep thinking about this post and I'm not mad. But this website is a group of forums meant to help people isn't it? We can read all of the material in our books prepared for us, we can ask Dr. and nurses and nutritionists and get the answers we need. But how many of our Dr's or nurses or nutritionists have ever experienced this first hand? Isn't it good to be able to hear from others who live it everyday? For me at least, I like to hear about what others do or have done, that is why I come here. Maybe if there are those who are tired of reading same old questions, they have nothing further to learn or gain by being here?

Sorry if this comes off rude but.... I've been here for a little while and have read a lot of topics. Some things I've seen have really surprised me. I'm referring to topics where people ask questions that seem so basic that their surgeon or NUT should have explained to them on day 1. For example, I've seen people ask how much Water they're supposed to drink or how much Proteinthey need to get. Personally I had to meet with my NUT several times and sign papers saying that they explained everything to me, I got pamphlets and booklets and printouts and powerpoint presentations on what to eat and when along with meal ideas. This was all before I was given a date for surgery. I'm just wondering if people simply aren't doing enough research ahead of time or if the doctors and nutritionists are dropping the ball. In my personal opinion only, I think sometimes even though we already have the answer, it feels good to have someone other than a Dr. Or nut tell you! Kind of like a positive reaffirmation

I'm still driving an 03 Venture Granny van! Good news is, the wife has a mustang convertible that she will on rare occasions let me drive. I'm still looking for a big boat of a car from 70's with low miles that will be my last car! Ohhhhh, the wait!

Embrace the Stall
retzlpa replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Since we are all in the stall together! Punintended! Do you think there is any evidence or studies done on patients who had revision surgery from lap band to RNY or any other type of revision and stalling? -
Nearing My 3 Month Anniversary... And then there was ANGER
retzlpa replied to Shace's topic in The Guys’ Room
Hooked sound like good anger control! And they are much cheaper than a wife and 2 ex wifes! -
Not just explosive, but wet and with a light colored discharge. Came on yesterday after eating greek yogurt and some high protein granola mixed in. Been taking gas x but so far no help. Sorry if TMI, just worried about black age or Crohns!
