    Bezoars--hair balls?

Bezoars as related to wls are masses of undigested food. They can occur anywhere in the digestive system but most commonly in the stomach. Small ones can pass without any symptoms. Larger ones can cause symptoms of GI tract blockage. I have heard of them occurring in RNY patients but not so much with the sleeve.
  2. ZombieQueen As the other posters have said you really need to try to meet your Fluid and Protein goals. I know from experience it is not always easy. From reading your previous posts your journey has not gone smoothly up to this point. My journey has not been the easiest either. I think it is very important with the symptoms you have described to see your doctor sooner rather than later. At two months out I ended up in the hospital with dehydration and malnutrition due to being unable to eat or drink because of severe nausea. I know our situations are not the same but the numbers you listed for your consumption are low enough that I am concerned. I am not a doctor nor in the medical field but I truly believe you should consult one as soon as possible. I hope things improve for you soon.
  3. I am almost 13 months post-op. I have had difficulties with adequate hydration since my surgery. Just to give you a quick history. At my 1 week po visit I received 2 bags of IV fluids due to dehydration. After that I made it my job to drink (set a timer to remind me to drink) and managed to avoid needing IV hydration again until I was six weeks out. At six weeks I started experiencing pain and nausea when eating or drinking and ended up hospitalized for a week due to dehydration and mild malnutrition. I left the hospital with a PICC line (central IV) and TPN (IV nutrition) and on a clear liquid diet. When I left the hospital I was lucky to get 20 oz of Fluid in each day. I worked really hard and after 4 weeks I got up to 50 oz daily at which point they advanced my diet to full liquids. By week seven on TPN I finally got up to 64 oz on most days and the TPN was discontinued and the PICC line removed. I remained on the full liquid diet for 3 more weeks and then was advanced to purees for 2 weeks, soft foods for 2 weeks, and finally regular foods. At each progression my fluid intake suffered but I was able to work my way back up to 64 oz. One of my biggest problems with hydration is that not only did I wake up from surgery with no hunger but I also do not seem to experience thirst. The closest thing I experience to thirst is a dry mouth when I have gone too long without drinking especially when talking. I no longer have any physical problems with drinking except when I become ill. I have noticed that the more I drink the more I want to drink and the opposite the less I drink the less I want to drink. I can go hours without drinking anything if I get distracted by what I am doing. I usually have something to drink within arms reach at all times except when in bed. I currently make sure I get at least 64 oz a day even if it means drinking large amounts of fluids between dinner and bedtime. I would really like to spread my hydration out thru the day and increase the amount also. Has anyone else lost the sensation of thirst? If so what have you done to insure adequate hydration? Even if you haven't lost the sensation of thirst do you have any suggestions.
  4. Thank you for your responses. Mistie - Before surgery I also drank a lot with my meals. I could drink well over 20 oz with each meal. It was quite an adjustment getting away from drinking with my meals. Are you saying you are only getting in 17 oz fluids total or 17 oz of Water? You really need to watch out for dehydration. Unfortunately dehydration actually makes it harder to drink which I found out the hard way. If you are only getting in a total of 17 oz daily from water, Protein shakes, broths, Soups, yogurt, Jello and/or pudding please contact your surgeon as you may need IV hydration.

    NJ Obamacare coverage...

I think you misunderstood - they are covering bariatric surgery at least the Horizon Omnia plans I looked at (Omnia Silver HSA, Omnia Silver, and Omnia Gold). I did not check all their plans or the plans offered by Amerihealth or Health Republic.

    NJ Obamacare coverage...

I just did some quick research on the plans available for 2016 from Obamacare. I only looked at Horizon plans since they are the easiest to use in extreme southern NJ. It looks like most if not all will be covering bariatric surgery next year.

    NJ Obamacare coverage...

I did not have any problem finding doctors who accepted this insurance. But I just found out Horizon is discontinuing this plan in 2016. I will have to research the available plans for 2016 to find a replacement plan.

Yes I had sleeve surgery using an Obamacare health insurance plan. My plan was and still is Horizon BCBS Advanced EPO Gold.
  11. Check with your NUT but I found out that creamed soups did not necessarily mean soups made with cream but any Soup especially bean soups blended to a creamy texture and then strained to remove any chunks. This opened up more choices than just the normal creamed soups. Good luck with your surgery.

    Peppermint extract

I have used both mint extract (contains both peppermint and spearmint extracts) and pure peppermint extract since shortly after surgery. I have not tried the premier Protein shakes but add it to my Bariatric Advantage vanilla protein shake. I have not had any problems with it and it effectively disguises the protein taste of the shakes.

Well, I've been yelled at today.

I am not here to beat a dead horse. I do agree with much of what the previous respondents said. Your reaction was an overreaction but - BUT it felt/feels real and absolutely true to you. I am sure I am not the only one to recognize some of myself in your post. I most likely would have had a similar reaction a year and a half to two years ago while I suffered from very low self-esteem and major depression. We all embark on this journey expecting to lose weight; but this is not just a journey of just weight lose but a journey of the mind, body, and soul. Most of us achieve major weight lose along with a huge helping of self-discovery and an emotional roller coaster which can be quite nightmarish at times. My suggestion to you is to start seeing a counselor if you do not already do so. This counselor does not need to be through your bariatric center but should be someone familiar with bariatrics and bariatric surgery because many challenges still lie ahead. I wish you all the luck on your journey since it truly is your journey and your journey alone because everyone's journey is different.
