Things I didn't expect my first month post-op
MojoCAMI replied to SleeveMe247's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
2 Months out myself, but I remember month 1..I was surprised about the following: I was surprised I still had some pain at week 4 Pooping was a rare occurrence but my doc said don't worry (much better now) My sleep pattern is weird, I go to bed say at 10 or 11pm, I am done sleeping at 6am. I get up no groggy not lethargic I am ready to go..yay.. down side, some night I got to bed at 10 or 11pm and I am done sleeping at 3 or 4 am and can't get back to sleep..boooo No return visits from any Protein or smooth foods or semi smooth.. Yay! My body wants to walk (strange feeling) less huffing after walking a flight of stairs the swift down trend on the scale. all in all good, happy I did it.. still getting use to judging how much I should put on my plate at dinner time.. but i have learned when to stop and how to graze. -
5 months & 124 pounds gone

What's the longest period of time you were "stalled" ?
MojoCAMI replied to Susan66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
although I am only 2-months out, I have experienced I think 2-4 stalls.. my NUT said I should start to see them after week 6 but I saw them week 5.. long story short, I have seen them last as short as 2 days to as long 7 days. during my stalls i change my habits, walk a bit more and I check the scale less...(sorry i am a scale checker) prior to surgery I cared not for a scale, post sleeve I like to see the progress both physically, mentally and by the numbers. -
New sleevers how are you doing
MojoCAMI replied to Joymarie333's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am 4 weeks out, and it goes get better, but it goes from better to cautious really. Getting Protein down after my procedure on 11/11 was hard.. Dr. said don't rush it, may be a full week or 2 before you get 60g of protein and 40-48oz of non-protein Fluid down.. Well I am here to tell you, it took 3 weeks and yes my Dr. said if by week 4 I was not at 60-70g of protein and 48oz or more of non-protein I would be re-admitted for dehydration.. I am happy to say I can do all of what she has asked of me, but you have to be creative about it, because my sleeve (Mr. Bumble) is not always easy to get along with.. There are nauseated mornings where he does not want liquid of any kind, while at work I easily forget to have my yogurt or make a shake or drink my non-protein liquids....foods that I use to enjoy (healthy and not as healthy) I approach with caution..I have found my go-to Snacks when something puree or soft does not sit well. So right now get into a routine, it will help you when you get to the purree and soft food stage..keep in mind purree and soft foods is just a brief break from 100% liquid mode, you will not be able to eat that much of it and so your protein goal still needs to reached.. and to the one poster who said, "whoever said this was an easy way out" you are so right, its not an easy way out, its tool to help us stay on track, keeping us from over indulging, and if we do over indulge there is a price to pay!! trust me Stay positive -
Did anyone go to surgery alone.
MojoCAMI replied to cookies_queen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in a similar position, wife just started a new job, so she could only come to surgery check-in but had to leave within 40min...it was another hour and half before they wheeled me in to the surgery room.. she did not get back to see me until super late that evening and my procedure was in the early morning. I did not mind, the surgeon was nice enough to give her a call personally post procedure to let her know the outcome and how i was doing. that was nice of them. -
Ohh my word, I am with you.. or at least was.. for 2-3 weeks post surgery I had the hiccups after drinking. my wife and kid thought it was a permanent side effect and would never go away... but i am happy to say, approaching week 4 they did go away.. but it was replaced with this painful urge to burp...but i know now that most of that burping is because i am eating to fast and not chewing enough.. so I am slowing down on how fast I eat my little 3-4 table spoons of food and how well I chew.

NSV...Kind of embarrassing but what the heck!
MojoCAMI replied to Pillar2butterfly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome story, congrats.. my old underware (don't ask) had to go the elastic was not hold on to me well.. my more recent undies however the elastic is holding but its much loose in the thigh area..but sooon soon I say i will have to get new undies.. I have pj's with no strings that use to stay up because of the girth around my belly..now they slip and once fell.. so its time for new pj's in a few weeks.. my jeans are starting to look baggy, so thats also my next purchase, my dress pants for work are holding stead, but i purchased them a touch smaller a few years back... Again funny story and good one to share, thank you. -
How much did you lose ?
MojoCAMI replied to MrsSantiago's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dropped 12lbs if I am not mistaken.. I was not on full liquids just reduced carb, sugar fat intake. I did protein shakes breakfast lunch and ate a small meal at dinner low in carb sugar and stuff, lots of jello for snack because I could not have my grapefruit -
yup normal, I was sleeved on 11/11 and last week I stalled floating up and down between 3-4lbs. I changed my Protein intake for a couple days maxing out at about 80grams and low and behold the stall barrier was broken and weight dropped below that 3-4lb mark it was holding it. Stalls will occur as I have read, I have prepared mentally for them so I could identify them and not blame myself for doing something wrong.. once I knew it was a stall I was calm and made some minor adjustments.

Congrats that is awesome!!! i hate excising but i am doing things around the house more. I am going to try and get back on my stationary bike today and ride for 10-15min.. but again congrats!!!!

How Did You Do on Thanksgiving?
MojoCAMI replied to Slim-Shady's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have not been sleeved as long as you have finegurl2015 (My sleeve was put in nov 11). but I think i did okay. I am on the smooth/purree food stage so, sweet potato / mash potato and blended turkey was my meal.. I few teaspoons of each every couple of hours..great while its warm, but even tasty while cold . I did not do much in the way of desert, but that might be because no one made a cheesecake this year . Anywho, thanks for starting this top and sharing your lessons with the sleeve, I am still learning as well, when I am full, eating to fast or need to burp..thankfully I have not had any return visits from anything i have eaten, but I have had a few close calls. Take care, ~MojoCAMI -
HI Chazmataz and happy post thanks giving Sleevers, @@Chazmataz congrats on a conversion and keep sipping. Reading your post about going for happy hour is sooo true. My coworkers love happy hour and we go almost weekly. The last 3 weeks I have just sat with them and had Water, yes they offered me food and yes they looked at me funny, but I tell them i am try to drop a few pounds (more like couple hundred ) and so i am cutting back. They all give me credit for the will power but none of them know about my sleeve, they just know I am dropping a few pounds and I like it that way. So yes take note of how much food plays and soon Played a role in your life. Soon you will be content with eating just a little and drinking your meals, because you will see the fruits of your labor.

Anyone have an over 50 BMI?
MojoCAMI replied to IJustWant2BeALoser's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That was the case for me, I was over 60bmi and as such my insurance did not require me to do the 6months physician weight loss plan. but despite being given the green light, I opted for the 6 physician visits, because I wanted to learn more about my body and the food I consumed and as i result i learned more about me. It was sort of strange, every one at my surgeons office from the Physician assistant to the NUT asked me why i wanted to do it this way, and my response was something like, surgery is not a silver bullet, if I don't mentally prepare I will fail.. I am glad I took the extra time.. despite the extra weight gain and pressure to get under 400lbs to even have the surgery, it was worth the battle for me. -
okay sorry I missed your post I hope you are on west-coast time .. if so please ask your doc about nausea and spasm meds I think lazorpram and metecoloprimade.. those were and continue to be life savers for me.
-
you are most welcome, For me it was around day 3 or 4.. but here is the kicker, I am back to sipping, or larger sipps because I of trapped air .. when i get a air bubble it hurts a bit, so I have dialed back my gulping to larger sips.. So sipping is not a bad thing, even for someone like me more than 10days post op..just stick with it.. and take the meds they provide, if you have nausea meds use them, and of cousrs the cramping and spasm meds if you have them. I did not have have acid reflux so that was the only med I did not take during the first 5days.

Nooo apologizes newstart38, thank you for sharking.. sorry you had a rough time post procedure and continue to have some issues even at home.. your not alone, each of us has had some sort of lingering issue or minor setback.. Sounds like your tummy hunger calls though are within reason, the trick is giving it something it wants that it will like. I was similar to you post-op day 2-5 I was not sure if I was hungry or cramping, one time I took 2 doses of cramping meds thinking i was cramping a lot but I was actually hungry. Over time the cramping will actually move either to the left or lower left of your incision, and then your tummy center-right will start to have its own unique space for hunger pain, it will make it easy to tell the difference between cramp and pain.. at first it all runs together. Now when it comes to food for the hungry new tummy, I too struggle with finding something that my tummy named "Mr. bumble" will live with.. one day I think i understand the routine and the next day he changes it. be prepared, have cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese if you like it, mash potatoes, and Protein Shakes ready to try so you can find something it likes..only take a taste to see if your tummy will like it, you will know pretty quick if it does not (strangely enough) Since you were sleeved on the 19th, 5 days post op, I think you will start feeling a sense of normalcy over the thanksgiving holiday. keep up the good work!!

thank you I am trying..its definitely a daily experience

For me it was this past saturday I tried eggwhites and it went down okay.. so that would be post op day 9 if I can still count. I have never tried premiere , I have used EAS chocolate & Vanilla along with nectar (roadside lemonade, Cappuccino, vanilla bean) Those flavors got me through 2 weeks pre-op and post op.. Nectar Cappuccino mixed with Fairlife non-fat milk was surprisingly super tasty...made me a fan of Fairlife after that.
-
wonderful story!!! I like the name SAMI.. For soft foods: mash potatoes go well, I actually was able to eat some steamed spinach (small small portion) sweet potato, yogurt (not a fan of cottage cheese).. and egg whites... I am getting about 70-80 grams of protein in which is good and I am up to 50oz of non-protein liquids which I am amazed about.. somedays are better than others even at 11days post-op.. I keep the nausea pills in reach when I try something new just in case... I have not vomited to date, but yes I get the saliva filled mouth (yuck) some morning. but no dry heaving though...thankfully.. Take care

Greetings November Sleevers, Just want to share a story about my sleeve I have now named "Mr. Bumble" ...I am a 11 days post-op.. I am on smooth soft foods, but still 98% drinking Protein shake and crystal light..almost 30lbs down since surgery. This morning i get up for work, perform my morning routine and just as I am about to head downstairs Mr. Bumble rumbles..No problem I know just the thing, we have been acquainted now for 11days I know Mr. Bumble is hungry and would like something to eat.. So I make my Protein Shake, take my meds which I am down now from 5 meds to 2 (yay!!).. My 2 meds go down fine, Mr. Bumble is less grumpy..so next I take my 1 serving of my chew-able Vitamin... that goes down fine.. so now I start to finish my protein shake which is only 8oz of liquid, and just as i am at the last sip.. Mr. Bumble decides he is unsure about the contents I have sent down, and starts to question them by giving me the nauseated feeling.. So me and Mr. Bumble hade a talk. I said am not going to puke, I have to go to work and I don't want to feel nauseated all morning.. Mr. Bumble responded, I don't like what you have sent down, I said said but we did this yesterday no fuss, why fuss now, Mr. Bumble said I don't like it today and thats that... So I did as only a Sleever with a nauseated stomach could do, I took one of the nauseated meds and Mr. Bumble shut up.. thanks for reading.. ~MojoCAMI

Hi Lucy H, I understand the night hunger, I started making a bottle of crystal light and a Protein Shake before bed, just in-case I woke up with a cramping growling stomach I could feed it. It helps that I have a college dorm size fridge in the bedroom, so it was not a far trip for liquid. I found that having either of these liquids available in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning provided mental relief that I did not have to get up and fix a Protein Drink, because I had one available...those night hunger pains are no joke

Hi Pea523 glad to hear you are feeling better, and yes coughing along with deep breaths sometimes hurt, but I promise this will go away in a few days. I was lucky I did not have a issue with nausea or acid reflex so those issues I did not experience but I had plenty of other pain in my abdomen area to make up for it. Rest and walk, rest and walk, you will be back on your feet in no time. and congrats!!! welcome to the club ~MojoCAMI

Hi Doggirl79,, i will be 7days post-op tomorrow, and yes my main incision still hurts if I bend the wrong way or lay the wrong way, or laugh to hard, or cough to hard... as long as I take my pain pills it dulls it, but when I forget..whooooo does it hurt.. I have not taken a shower yet, just using the the ol'washup routine.. I can touch my incisions without pain but underneath the main one hurts.. now on hunger, do you have hunger pains (cramps) or are you thinking your hungry with no physical alert.. I noticed that in the morning when I first get up, my stomach goes bonkers (cramping, growling) I have a small fridge in the bedroom with protein shake pre-made and I sip that.. after about 4-8 sips my tummy is happy and I can begin my day. I also like sipping warm team if i forget to pre-make my shake for the morning. I do have eye hunger, where I see something and want to nibble, but i hold back, I am seeing double digits losses of weight right now each day, I don't want to change that.. I have only had broth one time since post-op it did not sit well, but thank god for those nausea pills. thus so far I have only used nectar protein powder and crystal light. Keep your head up and happy anniversary ~MojoCAMI My hunger is physical. I do have really bad eye hunger but throughout the day I'm definitely physically hungry. I love broth! I guess it's the salt that makes me feel like I'm having an actual meal LOL I drink 2-3 protein shakes plus Fairlife skim milk. I'm getting about 80 grams of protein in. I'm losing on average 1.4 pounds a day. For me, that's great! I read on my approved food but I could have creamy soups and sugar-free pudding so I made some high-protein sugar-free pudding last Night I'm going to get some fat free cream soups and add some unflavored protein to those as well maybe this will help curb my hunger I also have been walking on my treadmill to alleviate some of the pain Thank you for your experience! you are most welcome, i have been contemplating trying fairlife milk, I use cashewmilk in my chocolate and vanilla protein shakes. The nectar protein shakes I just use water so no issue there. I don't recall being cleared for soups after the first week, but I am going call my NUT and ask I like creamy soups and I am happy its working well. I also forget about sugar free pudding, I make plenty of sugar free jello though. thanks for sharing as well. My NUT told us SF pudding and creamy soups (no food or chunks and can add water to thin it). But every NUT is different. To be safe I woukd ask to make sure. I think I Mai have a sleeve of steel! Before surgery I could eat nails and be ok. Good luck to you! Keep me updated on your progress. No worries I meet with my NUT tomorrow i can ask then, for now its protein shakes and water, no biggie..

Things will go well, i was a touch scared myself to be honest, but it was mostly about the pain part post op... Just be ready to walk when the nursing staff says so, be ready to pee like no tomorrow for the first few times and when they give you your first protein shake, don't be afraid to ask for a different flavor.. the first one they gave me did not sit well.. pain ohh the pain.. other than that, good luck and I will look forward to your first post, post procedure
