  1. Your Dr. is a jerk. Any form of movement is better than nothing. You cannot expect to be running a marathon at this stage. You do your Water aerobics!! It's easy on your joints and the resistance against the water pressure is good for you. I am 5 weeks out and right now I am walking about 28 blocks at least three days a week. As soon as that becomes a bit easier then I will graduate to more extensive exercise. And I am seeing decent results in my weight loss. Good luck and be assertive and push back on your Dr. if you need to!
  2. What will I need to purchase post-op that isn't provided from the hospital? I understand that there may be opportunities for field trips during my stay? Vitamins, heartburn, pain relievers, and misc? Thank you!
  3. Only my hubs, daughter and son-in-law know. I do not believe that I will ever share the information at all. It really isn't any bodies business what I wanted to do for myself. It has been a life time battle for me.
  4. Lots of great information! Okay one less thing for me to worry about, LOL
  5. Thank you! I may be staying in the recovery house if it is available, but did hear there was a Walmart nearby.
  6. Thank you! Good ideas especially the adhesive remover, it would be annoying to have your tops stick to you!
  7. Oh no! I cannot believe this!!! This will be my third surgeon!! I was looking so forward to having him do my surgery. Next Saturday for me, I think!
  8. To be able to go to the store my daughter goes to and be able to try things on, too! My daughter is tall and is very careful what she eats and has a killer figure. Thankfully she didn't take after me.
  9. I am but on April 9th. I have yet to find anyone on that date. I will be travelling alone.

Any April 2016 VSGers out there?

I got my date today!!! April 9th! I would love to join your Facebook page. I am from Washington State.
  11. I am planning a Saturday surgery and taking the whole following week off and will return back to work on Tuesday for a total of 10 days off. I have an easy desk job and unfortunately am planted at my computer all day long.
  12. Could it be that you are getting more attention from the opposite sex and you may be considering that the grass may be more greener on the other side? If so, whose to say that you will keep off the 100 pounds? Do you have children? I would be very careful, this could be a very dangerous path to go down. Give her time, she may have an epiphany and may get on board. If I get attention, I don't realize it. I don't care because I am married. Grass might be greener but you still have to cut it! I will keep the weight off. I did this for one reason, for my health. No I don't have children with her. After reading some of these posts and thinking about things, I will be giving her more time as I already have. I owe it to her, I want her to get healthy and enjoy life with me and not in and out of clinics with chronic illnesses due to obesity and nutrition. I didn't realize how life changing this would be and how mentally prepared I needed to be. I have seen a psychologist for 3 years and prepped for a year before the surgery about how this surgery would change me physically and mentally. He brought up the fact about making sure my marriage was solid, I didn't. I was "comfortable". It's something I didn't prepare for. I do know now, and know I need to focus on certain things beyond the given. As for the earlier comment from another poster about being selfish. It made me laugh. Reality is we are all selfish in our own ways. Think about it seriously. We are. You have one life, live it. When we become cats and have 9 lives...I'll change my whole thought process. I am so happy to hear this. Some people take the easy way out, but it sounds like you have really done your "homework" ! Good for you. Congratulations on your weight loss and wishing you the best with your wife.

  14. I am confused. Most people say that after surgery they are not hungry. At what point does that change? Why do some people start craving their favorite foods fairly soon thereafter? I had thought that after the surgery your stomach "resets". If your stomach is now 20% to 25% of what it used to be, I know that you gradually go from liquids, to puree and to mashed, etc. So during that time your stomach staples have healed over? What calories a day then during the "weight loss" period do you consume? Is it still the tiny, tiny portions per meal. Isn't maintenance then what your body settles into which can be anywhere from 1200 to 1800 calories a day depending on how your body works? If you cannot handle large amounts of food, at what point does your body allow you consume more food? I guess I am trying to understand it all how the stomach is going to work post surgery and why after a point can people eat a whole plate of food? I have seen some people's portions and wonder how they get that all down.
  15. I am new to this group and starting to do the steps to get qualified for a sleeve. I have some questions for the long term success stories and the tips you have to stay at your maintenance weight once you have reached it. What makes me very nervous is some of the lack of success stories I do read about, such as never reaching goal. Or maybe getting to goal and then gaining 20-30 pounds. I know for myself, that having this surgery is very serious and should be my last resort after trying every diet known to man. I do know that having the sleeve "re-sets" the signals from your brain to your stomach in regards to feeling full and satisfied. Most people post surgery indicate that they have trouble eating and are not hungry and getting full very quickly. At what point does the stomach accept the extra food and the food addiction rears its ugly head? What tips do you have to combat that? I hear about people talking about cheating on their food not terribly long after surgery. I know that consistent exercise is a must and works hand in hand in the process. I am terrified to undergo an expensive surgery ( I have insurance but do have to pay over and above the coverage) and have them cut out 80% of my stomach (for life) and then stretching it back to its previous size because I have lost control and couldn't overcome my food addiction. When I do get down to the brass tacks, I HAVE to take this seriously and finally be successful for the rest of my life. Really want to see how you all have overcome it or how you manage it successfully and how you perceive this huge change in your life.
  16. How nice you all are! Thank you for taking the time to reassure me and such positive vibes! I plan to be one of the success stories.
