    jump back on.....

I had a port revision because my port bonked against my ribs continuously, I couldn't get comfortable no matter how I slept or sat, I tried to adjust myself all the time - lean to the side LOL, but it just wasn't working. The new port is a low profile port that is smaller and thinner (this is what the Doc says) it was placed inside using the same incision site and they moved it slightly further away from my ribs. Feels great now! No pain at all
  2. Wow! It is really wonderful to see such a great and positive response from each and every one of you guys  I guess it really is a personal decision and some of us are more personal than others and some less than than others. I am the happiest to see that not one person felt embarrassed about the surger. Regardless if we keep our surgery close to our hearts or Celebrate it loudly and verbally we all seem to be very proud of our decisions
  3. Good for you! It really is such a personal decision to tell or not to tell and it makes me happy to see how each person feels and deals with this surgery
  4. I am not terribly private either, but I know I have friends who are - makes for interesting dynamics lol. I am in the process of checking out your blog and I have to say I like it, straightforward and a nice clean looking page.
  5. I understand what you are saying and it makes sense completely You look like you are doing wonderful!

Who will this change who i am

I had pain at my port site, my ribs hurt as well - the port was bonking against that area and was just too large for me. I couldn't get comfortable when sitting or sleeping and sometimes it would be much worse than others but regardless everyday it was uncomfortable. So, I had my revision and had a low profile port put in,smaller and thinner and now I feel wonderful!

    1 pound at a time

Well, my first blog here at lapbandtalk.com and I feel nervous - I mean what if someone actually reads this? I named it "1 pound at a time" because I have to start remembering that just like the Alcoholic Anonymous saying " one day at a time" it really is one pound at a time. I cannot keep looking so far ahead a that I lose sight of the here and now, the little triumphs and the little victories. So today was that little victory, I lost one pound - and I am fine with this as I haven't lost for a month - now I am proud to say I am 193.5! My goal this month is to hit 190 and I believe not only will I do it but I will exceed.... but again, one pound at a time... stop looking so far ahead that you set yourself up, that you become lax in your food and your exercise... these are the things I need to remember.
  10. Hello I would be calling the Dr. or nutritionist back and asking for a very clear diet plan from them. This forum is awesome and has not only great advice but wonderful people as well. Personally, I would not change getting banded! I have more hope now than I ever have and I think for me it was the best decision I could have made. Welcome and good luck to you!

    New in Wash.

Hi there, I agree with dlmyvette, you do sound confused - the post made by dlmyvette is full of great advice. Take the time to make sure you understand this surgery and to make sure that you will be able to follow all the steps leading up to the surgery and after. And what really worries me is "referral and diagnosis's me Obese. He says he was only doing that because I asked for the surgery." Your doctor doesn't consider you obese and is only doing it because you asked him about the surgery? I really hope that is not the case. Going into this surgery blind will lead you down a path of disappointment and frustration. So ask lots of questions and remember that this site is full of wonderful educated people who are willing to help you on your way- I have been lucky to find many to help me

Who will this change who i am

Hi there I suppose in little ways I have changed since my surgery, I feel more hopeful, I feel like I have a more positive outlook on life. But, I have not changed as far as who I am inside as a person. I still feel passionate about certain causes, I am still highly energized about my life goals but this time I have more energy to complete these goals. Good luck to you and have fun with your ever changing journey!

    Where are the vermonters?

Hi Leese, yes I belong to the yahool group and have seen the meeting times. I just do not use that group much and cannot go to the meetings as besides working full time I go to college as well. Sounds like you are doing wonderful! Losing weight quickly - I am envious :tt2: Take care!

To tell or not to tell?!?

Oh my god LOL, I think that is awful of your friend but it made me snort my Water and laugh - I assume you are still friends?

To tell or not to tell?!?

I told everyone and still do, I am very comfortable with my decision to have surgery and tell people so. I have had a couple of odd comments but I head them off as soon as possible - nip it in the bud :tt2:
  16. I wasn't even weighed that morning and trust me I was obsessed with thinking they would! Good luck to you and drink lots of water :tt2:
  17. I have a nasty woman who works in my department who when she heard I was having surgery again (for my port revision mind you) said "oh are you having surgery again because it isn't working for you?" I kid you not!!! My weightloss is slow but I have lost 32 pounds since the beginning of June! I started to explain that I was a have port revision due to pain but then I thought "screw it, the woman is an idiot this much I know" and walked away from her.

    Be honest, does it hurt?

The first time it was done I found it very painful - that is just me mind you. So being that I found to be that painful I asked for lidocaine for the next two fills, although I get picked on for that I am a much happier camper and wouldn't do it any other way

    starting over

Hi Rosemary and Sweetie, a low profile port is a smaller and thinner port (at least that is how my surgeon described it), I had a port revision because the regular port was too large for the area under my ribs, it caused me continuous daily pain for months, I couldn't sit in a comfortable posistion, I couldn't sleep well at night and was generally unhappy with it. The new port is great, I do not have pain at all and am a happy camper these days!

    starting over

I can relate for sure! One thing that really rang true for me was getting my first fill, it was painful even with fluoro and that was when I decided the only way I was going to get another was if they numbed me first - voila much more comfortable! I have had two more fills since then that have been numbed first. I should also say that I had a regular port for the first 5 months and then on November 19th I had a port revision and now have a low profile port. So that being said, there is no shame in getting a numbing shot first before you next fill - I was very adamant about it when I spoke to my surgeon and he finally understood how painful it was for me. I understand about losing focus and I struggle every day. I try to just track my food intake, exercise - even if it is only for 20 minutes at a time. Good luck, be assertive with your needs in regards to your fills and take good care of yourself

    Where are the vermonters?

Hello to anyone who is reading this  I started the thread and some how have neglected to see how everyone is doing! I guess I am doing pretty well, I have 5.5ccs in my 10cc band. Have good restriction mostly as long as I follow my proper eating habits as I am suppose to. I have really become more careful about my calories and keep track with FitDay.com - that is so important for me. If I do not keep on top of my calorie intake I find myself eating more and more - it really is accountability for m, e. I am stuck at 194.5 right now but I am really hoping to break through the 190's by the end of January - that is my little goal. Hope to catch up with some Vermonters (and anyone else) again soon!
  22. I understand. I had my surgery June 16th 2008 and I have struggled to listen to my body while trying to quiet my mind hunger. I think that treats in moderation are great - except for myself they lead to little binges or just a slide back down for me - not saying this is true for everyone. Even today I am getting back on track after quite a food day yesterday, I move on and get over it. Good luck, be kind to yourself and remember tomorrow is another day!

    filled

Simone what a fabulous idea! Now I just need to figure out where to get one of those? Suggestions? That would be so much easier especially at work.
  24. babbs3772

    filled

Wow that is amazing for your first fill! I am not an expert nor a doctor so I don't know if that is normal or not. I know mine have been in increments - I just had a fill today as well, I have a 10cc band and now have 5.5cc (.5cc added today). I am sure someone else will have a much better idea than I do, but regardless I got a chuckle about the soup - I spend more time reheating my food than eating some days!

:) New to this particular "room"

Hello Amy and Cindy! I had a third fill today, I have a 10cc band and now have 5.5cc in it. Feeling good over all and getting good restriction. Now I just have to get up off of my tush and go get on the treadmill! I am trying to pysch myself up for it
