  1. Thank you :-) silly question but was it painful? For me, for the first two days yes. But equally I hear from lots of people that they were fine, so everyone is different in how they deal with it. Day 3 was a big improvement as the day went on, and now all I have is a little bit of soreness in my large incision. Don't worry though, they give you painkillers if you do end up feeling it a bit more.

    1st phase post op

I personally wouldn't, the states are there because your stomach is healing internally. It's only a day or two more of the rest of your life, so try and follow the doctors instructions

    ****TMI WARNING****

I started mine the day of surgery (I was due around then) and it lasted about a day longer than normal, but nothing extreme. I guess this is something I'll keep an eye on for next month? Pleas let us know what your doctor says!
  4. Remember every heals at a different rate, they're just guideline's. If you get to the next stage and are having pain or don't feel ready slow things down and wait a little longer
  5. My surgeon classified the liquid stage as anything smooth that was thin enough to pass through the tines of a fork, so soup with a scoop of unflavoured protein powder sounds like it would be a better option for you.
  6. I have three weeks from surgery date on liquids thin enough to pass through a fork (one week in hospital, two at home), then another two weeks on blended/mushy food, then introduce solids

    Questions!

I wear a wig for other medical reasons and I get mine from loris wig site, they've always been great with me.
  8. Congrats on the date move! I had my surgery done on the 2nd. I was 122kg (19st 2 I think? I usually use kilos on my scale rather than stones) but haven't had a chance to weigh myself yet as I'm in the airport waiting to go home now.
  9. Pre-op I was permitted up to 50g carbs a day, I don't know how many are in the sugar in your coffer, but check how many grams a day your surgeon allows you, it may be workable. That being said, sugar is basically poison. It's also a massive trigger for me and I try to avoid it, but it's all about your situation and how you can make this work for you, so call your surgeon.
  10. I'm not sure how it works in Canada, but can't you go to your general doctor and have them refer you to one?
  11. I arrived Sunday night, had surgery on Tuesday, discharged the following Sunday.

I had stitches and a drain, but big incision (the one they took the stomach from) is about 2-3 inches long, the other 3 are quite little.

    4 days post op

No idea, but I'm burping a lot too, so there's obviously gas happening, it just doesn't hurt. Luckily I was in a private room, but I'll have to be more careful on the plane tomorrow...

I use my fitness pal right now, I like the fact that it has an app and you can scan barcodes rather than enter every food, but it will refuse to close out your day (post to your timeline) if you are under 1000 calories, which is annoying me a bit. I'd like a good tracker specialised for bariatric patients if I can find one, but if not MFP tells me my grams for my nutrients and that will do.

    4 days post op

I got really lucky in that I have had no gas pain at all. Which is weird because I've had lots of actual gas.

When I started preop I was 122kg (19.2 stone) so I have a good 60-ish kg to lose (9.4st-sh). You can follow it on my tracker as I make progress (hopefully). With the work thing, even if I worked in the UK it wasn't so much the pain I was worried about as the fact that you frequently have no energy until you hit solid food, so I thought lasting the day at work might be too challenging. Everyone reacts differently though.
  18. Sometimes you still have some of the hormone in your system, so the hunger doesn't go for a few days. Sometimes you don't really feel restriction until you come off thin liquids and on to more substantial things.

I finished my last work contract just before the new year and I decided not to look for a new one until after I had done this. I didn't want to put the pressure of long haul travel on myself until I was comfortable with solid food etc. Of course, now I may be going back into education so it's moot, but I'm not working right now. Boots have small ones as well, but sainsbury's were good for travel sized. They also sold empty travel sized containers for about 50p each if you wanted to fill them with your regular stuff from home. The spray I found on amazon, my surgery company suggested it. After I'm done I'll just go back to pills though now I know I can take them with no trouble. I've never seen biotine (hair and nail) in chewable so you may just have to wait until you're ok with pills. The tesco brand mulitvitamin has it in, but I'm not sure if the levels would be high enough for you. I'm not sure as to your hotel or hospital, you'll have to check what they say. If it's hotel check that they know you are checking in late so they don't think you're a no-show.

I leave hospital tomorrow, stay in a hotel for a night and fly back on Monday. I have some Vitamin sprays for at home, but actually the hospital has been giving me my acid blocker in pill form, as well as my sleeping pill, so as long as it's not too big and you're careful not to gulp Water to swallow them, it seems to be fine? I got some great travel toiletries from Sainsbury's because air france charges for checked luggage so I didn't want to be check anything in, but it meant I could only have liquids in that clear plastic bag so I had to downsize. Depending on if you're robbie or kaitlyn you may want to bring sanitary pads and tampons, surgery can mess with your cycle so it shows up unexpectedly. I was expecting mine, but had to wear a tampon in surgery. If you're robbie, sorry for the TMI.

    Pre-op Liquid Diet Question

Milk, or yogurt drinks thinned to a milk like consistency, would all have been allowed on my pre-op had I chosen to do liquids instead of solid foods, so that's an option too.
  24. I had pain from the beginning so it wasn't 'back' for me, but I have had a little throat tickle since my op and whenever I cough it really hurts my big incision. The big incision is really the only one still sore, but yes the coughing makes it much worse!

    Pre-op Liquid Diet Question

Get tea bags and brew your own tea, rather than buy ready made, then there's nothing in it other than what you add.
