So why does this annoy me so much?

I saw this same mentality during the pre-op classes. I would see people sitting in their cars eating fast food breakfasts and drinking a huge soda before going into a nutritional class for WLS. Of course they were also parking in the cancer patient parking because they were closer then the other spots.
  2. I wear one too that just indicates Gastric Bypass, the surgery date and Dr Office #. I also have some allergies to antibiotics and a bleeding disorder discovered pre-op. My Dr Office said it was good to have but they don't mention having one.

    How much can you eat?

I honestly don't "feel full" until it's too late so I try to eat within the quarter cup allowance; however, I also eat very slow so my Breakfast of an egg and some fruit could take me an hour to eat. My Protein shake took me an hour and a half to drink. My Dr wants me to eat throughout the day so I don't have any true meal so to speak; this helps me regulate my blood sugar so it doesn't bottom out.

Having a period right before surgery?

I was on my when I had my surgery. Just tell the nurse as soon as they bring you back to prep you for surgery. They will give you the lovely mesh underwear and a pad. It's not a big deal and like everyone said, they see it all the time because most WLS patients are women and most nurses are also women. The only bad part is I had to constantly explain to every nurse shift why there was blood in the urine collection pan in the toilet. Would have thought one of them would have put it in my chart....
  5. I had surgery on 8/31 and finally doing really good. It was discovered 4 days post surgery that I have hypoglycemia so the first couple of weeks were rough and then I had terrible nausea until about week 6. I am adjusting to my new pouch and learning what I can tolerate and what I can't. Not really eating carbs except yogurt, fruit and veggies. Still struggle to eat some meats, mostly because my taste bud. My doctor said the hormone release can mimic pregnancy for about 3 months and was sick the whole 9 months I was pregnant with both kids. I didn't like meat when I was pregnant too. I've lost 36 pounds and am down 2 pants sizes but much more on the top. People are definitely noticing and asking lots of questions. My standard answer is I'm on a strict diet and workout a lot; both of which are too. I've started strength training again, going back to yoga and my stamina while I work out is returning. Life is pretty good and finally don't regret my surgery.

    So what's changed?

Not super far post-op but I can't eat scrambled eggs (but hard boiled is just fine), used to LOVE mashed potatoes they were my favorite part of Thanksgiving and now I can't even have them touch my mouth. I love chili and would eat it every day. I also love yogurt and Water, both were just tolerated, now I crave them. I cannot add flavoring in my water either, it's way to sweet.
  7. I did a half marathon last year and the only advise I would give you is good shoes, hydration, Snacks and some tylenol. There are many walking marathon training plans out there which could probably help you out get the long miles in. You got this and have plenty of time to build up the miles.

    Stomach Bug Blues

Do you have anti-nausea meds left over from surgery? Those would help you keep down liquids. I agree with the Pedialyte or try some Powerade Zero. I have been worried about getting a stomach bug too which is all the more reason to take the Vitamins. Hope you feel better!
  9. I had surgery a week before my birthday so the night before my pre op appt my hubby surprised me with a birthday dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant. I didn't eat a whole lot but I made up for it in margaritas, I was afraid my blood would just be tequila at the pre-op appt.

    Why I don't weigh daily !

I only weigh myself on Friday's too and only if I don't feel bloated and yucky. Sometimes all it takes is a good poop and then I quickly hope on the scale.

    Peanut butter and crackers

I too buy the JIF to go servings but PB caused mild dumping and I haven't been brave enough to eat it again

    Your first time..

My first fruit was banana and then I moved onto cantaloupe with no issues. My first veggie was zucchini and I had no issues. Veggies were very touch and go up until a couple of weeks ago.
  17. I realized that I only lost 2 lbs in 3 weeks. I took someone's advice here and upped my calories just a tab and lost 5 lbs quickly. I am also 8 weeks out so I can eat a little more than you can. I find this whole process to be very frustrating and I know I shouldn't because I've lost 35 lbs and that's more than I would have been able to do on my own.

NSV - My smaller jeans are saggy in the butt!

@@Daisee68 definitely try on a smaller size. Trying on various clothes that didn't fit before is my new high.

    Powerade zero?

I live on it and also add the unflavored Protein powder to it.
  20. I have lost 30 lbs and just went from an 18 to a 16 (mostly) in pants. I noticed that my tops were becoming bigger much quicker than my bottoms. I am now wearing at 14 or XL in tops where I was in an 18 before. I admit that i am feeling very frustrated with how slow my weight loss has been so I might not be the best response.
  21. I had my WLS a week before my 44th birthday.
  22. In my case I don't believe I have a food addiction and the answer to your question is no. I lost a lot of weight on my own a few years ago but gained about 50 lbs of it back because I got hurt while trying to get off a mountain summit during a thunderstorm. Due to my PCOS, I have to work out at an intense level 6-7 days a week and keep my calories at 1200/day and I just couldn't do it with the extra 50 pounds. My body was working against me with the increase in hormones from the PCOS and due to my age, I simply couldn't lose the weight again. The surgery was my tool to aid me to lose the weight.

    Goal Weight / BMI

Thank you for this information. I am still very far for worrying about a true goal weight but I know to be out of the overweight BMI that weight is too thin for me at 44 years old and it doesn't take into account any muscle. I would much rather have a higher BMI and weigh more because of muscle.
  24. I had a severe hietal hernia repaired with by RNY but my gall bladder was removed over 6 years ago. My recovery was very easy but I have a super high pain tolerance. My surgeon requires those with gall bladders to take some medication after surgery; I didn't pay too much attention since I didn't have mine anymore. Good luck!
