Parents of young children - what are you telling your kids about surgery?
hollybower replied to walkinggirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I first told my husband then my 10 year old girl. She looked at me with tears in her eyes and said "mommy, I'm so happy your gonna be happy." At that moment I knew that the 4 real reasons I was doing this was for my kids. Tell them. You need them and they need you and with everyone in the know (whoever you tell) it will be a smoother ride and much more rewarding knowing your not doing it alone. Instead of the kids thinking "whys mom not eating, is mom sick, she's getting thin she must be sick is she gonna die" they will know you just can't handle a lot of food BECAUSE of the surgery. I say to keep all little minds from worry tell them and assure them it's for them too. -
i live in Yorktown but I drive to Richmond to see Dr. Brengman! Who is your surgeon? I have my 4th visit of the required 6 month insurance wait.

Easy as pie! Don't stress! -
I've been waiting for the holidays to be over!! This means just a few more visits and I'll be ready for my VSG!!!
-
I haven't had my VSG YET but I am already experiencing some NSV. Not having to stretch the bottom of my tshirt out for it to fit me feels odd...but it feels good!!
-
Lol! Good for u!!!!

I'm pre op. Looking at VSG in late March or April. I did do a video the day I decided to get the surgery but then lost it. I would recommend doing a video in bra and panties and show front and back with arms out to the side as well. Also, measure around the upper thighs, waist, bust and arms and hips.

I'm on visit number 3. As far as I am concerned the only con would be dying from obesity or comorbitities. So I am all in for the sleeve!
-
I was at the dr today for my 3rd of 6 insurance required visits! I am happy to say that I have dropped 5 pounds. I'm ready to get the surgery in about 3-4 months! I'm also going to try the phentermine. Anyone else tried this?

I haven't had my sleeve yet. I'm on visit number 3 of the required 6. I had a very stressful day and a lot happened today. I have been eating healthier and have been doing good until today. I stress ate and ended up going over my daily calories by 800!!! I'm a hog and I'm ashamed.

I am in the Newport News area.

How many of you had pre op testing and what was it? Is there anyone who didn't have anything pre-op tests besides the blood work?
-
I'm just a ball of nervous wreck! I'm in my 6 month waiting, my insurance is due to be "redetermined" in March, the surgery scheduler I'm probably looking at April or May for surgery. I was told I just needed to see my surgeon one more time before surgery and the NUT from the hospital once it was scheduled. The surgery scheduler said "oh you still have to see the psych and the NUT AND have H&P with the surgeon. I told her I had already done everything but see the surgeon once more and that I was just waiting my 6 months time. I'm freakin out!! All the "what-ifs" are becoming a bit much!
-
I absolutely LOVE the EAS!!!!!
-
I just had my second weigh in!! Need a buddy??? Anyway my psych eval is done and I only had to see my NUT once. I will see the hospitals NUT once my surgery has been scheduled! March is my last appointment with my PCP for the supervised diet.

Losing Family and Friends
hollybower replied to charjsweet's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Look at it this way. Shedding your extra baggage also means shedding the extra BAGGAGE! Lots of life lessons will be learned during this time. You don't need the extra pounds because it causing your health major issues. So you don't need anyone who is going to bring negativity and stress to your life either! You need nothing but FULL support during this time. -
