Anxiety/ Antidepressant meds (SSRI) post op
psvzum replied to Ashley Menhennett's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I take Zoloft and haven't had to change a thing. I also was taking XR adderall and changed to "regular/non XR " It wasn't lasting all day as it had pre RNY. -
That's FANTASTIC!!!! When I was at my heaviest, I couldn't go 30 seconds!

Tummy sleeper here! No problem whatsoever. If you find you do, try tucking a pillow under one side?

Hi breuxo I travel alot for business and can give you some tips. 1) Read the menu online before you go so you know what your options are. 2) Chew, chew and then chew some more. 3) Suggestions: soft fish, mashed potatoes, soft vegetables that you can mash. Shrimp cocktail is my standby. I just take small bites, chew the heck out of it and limit the amount of sauce I use. Yes, soup could be a good choice, but then again, it may not. I'm from the northeast where chowders and chili are a staple. If the soup of the day is a "cream of", you're out of luck. Call ahead of time. Have FUN!

Horrible stench! And it lingers. I think it has to do with microwave wattage/power. At home I hit 3.33 minutes for "fat free" Orville R. popcorn-full size bags. Perfection! When I do the same thing in a hotel microwave, it burns. Stinks and sets off the smoke detector.

You don't look like you need weight loss surgery!
psvzum replied to shannenm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't read the other comments so this may have already been said. This is pretty much the same as people saying, "Oh, you're not fat!", or "you don't need to lose weight", "you don't need to lose THAT MUCH weight", etc. I find this comes from them being uncomfortable agreeing that, yes, you sure are fat! I never shared my intention to have RNY with anyone. But when I was heavy, and complained about it, I'd get this type response. I stopped complaining about it. -
I was taking an antacid (doctor prescribed) for a while after surgery. I do find I'm burping more It's especially bad after drinking. I'm guessing I drink too fast?

I'm proud of you too![emoji106][emoji5]

I think the scale is going to be the death of me!
psvzum replied to bgjon5's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Don't weigh yourself so often. It'll make you nuts. -
Make it short and sweet, "My diet is high in Protein, small portions and lots of water".

Hi Crissyboo This isn't about your fiance, or anyone else. It's about YOU. Do it for yourself, for your physical and emotional health. I'm sorry you don't have support from those around you. But we're here to support you! Do what's best for you-I'm routing for you! Do you think your fiance is afraid of you losing weight, getting thin and running off with someone else? It may sound silly but it happens. People that call RNY "the easy way" don't understand. For me it was the only way.

I think she may mean abroad? -
Are you taking chewable Vitamins? I'm with you on the Protein drinks. My problem was I found them disgusting. But, I finally found one I love. If you find they're too sweet, get unflavored Protein powder and make your own smoothie. At four weeks out you're going to have good and bad days. I remember my dietician asking if I was getting all my daily protein. I said, nope. She asked was I getting all my Water daily. I said, nope. She said to focus more on water-this was at about 4 weeks. Best thing to do is talk to your doctor. I agree with James Marusek (above). You may not like the taste, but just get it down. Little sips-hold your nose if it helps. You'll get through this!!! Hugs to you.

I think it's pretty standard to receive prilosec (or similar antacid) after WLS. I never took an antacid before WLS but they gave it to me while I was at the hospital. Definately check with your surgeon. Good luck!

Almost 9 Months Post Op Stall Question + Pics
psvzum replied to Laughingmyassoff2015's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm almost at 9 months and see a definate slowdown. I went from 10+ lbs/month to 7 and now to 4 lbs last month. Thank you to whoever posted the link to the maintenance phase. Good news-hairloss is slowing down too. -
STOP! I have had eating disorders and while trying to overcome bulimia I began to chew/spit. It most certainly is an eating disorder and can become a difficult habit to break. Many of us got to be obese by using food to self soothe. I've spent years in therapy for this. Prior to getting WLS I made sure I had enough self soothing tools at hand so I wouldn't be tempted to turn to food. Please talk to your dietician or therapist if you have one. Seek help. You're turning to food for reasons other than nutrition. I'm not judging you-I've been there. I want to see you succeed in losing weight and keeping it off. You may not feel like eating now but you will. Sending hugs

Have any of you had insurance cover breast augmentation after WLS? My surgeon tells me it may if you're getting rash/fungus underneath where the "flaps" hang. I never even considered having this done but if insurance covers it, maybe. I'm at the "wondering" stage and not in any rush to pursue it. I'll check my insurance if I get serious. Just wondering about your experiences.

@@nickisleeve We all have to read labels and take all nutrition into consideration. These have : 1G Sugar 2G Sugar Alcohol 2% Total Carbs and, 0 Protein 25 Calories Got me through the first couple of weeks after surgery.

It's hard to believe but it'll pass. Honest. Are you taking pain medication? That can make some people nauseous. Don't even think of Protein drinks (blech) until your stomach settles down. Don't focus on, "I wish I never did this". You did. Coming to this forum was an excellent decision!! It is really tough the first couple of months. At this point, you're doing all you can to keep Water down. Have you tried sugar free popcycles? These are DELICIOUS!!!! Keep checking in and let us know how you're doing. Hugs

Totally get it. Seven months ago I was grossly obese. I was sprawled out in a comfy chair the other day and couldn't believe how my legs looked. I burst into tears of joy and disbelief at seeing how toned and thin they are. I look at myself in the mirror and I'm thin. It's extremely emotional. @@James Marusek AMAZING!!! @@Cervidae Unbelievable.. So inspirational (you're beautiful!) So proud of you both. I can only imagine how both your lives have changed since losing that much weight. I'm proud of all of us who are going through this amazing lifechanger.

"You had that fat people surgery"
psvzum replied to venomousflowers's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I only told family at first. I was ashamed of being fat and didn't want any additional focus on it. I gradually told people I'm close to and they've been totally supportive. If someone were to say that to me I'd play dumb. Like I don't know what they're talking about. "easy way out of what?" I'd love to hear why they think this way. For me, it was the only way out. -
Hi onmyway11! I had my surgery at Brigham and Women's Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, but can tell you how I chose my surgeon. I asked the office who had the first opening! The Center has an excellent reputation and I was comfortable with any of the surgeons. After getting my appointment, I did a "google search" of him for feedback from other patients. I also spoke with patients in the waiting room for their feedback. The preop diet varies from doctor to doctor in addition to how much weight you have to lose. My surgeon told me he wanted me to lose 25 lbs but I had my surgery a little over a month after my first visit. Congratulations on your decision!
