    Pre op liquid diet?

My liquid diet consists of Protein shakes, broth, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Gelatin, decaf coffee/tea, crystal lite, white cranberry juice/grape juice. All sugar free. I've added some Light and Fit Greek yogurts to the mix because I need something a bit thicker than broth.

    Liquid diet begins....

HAHAHA Hayleyhehe. I was wondering the same thing when it first started! I googled it and found it is pretty much normal to experience it. I don't know how I'm going to work with this going on. Luckily Monday I only have half a day, off Tuesday for colonoscopy, and then Wed, Thur, and Friday. Then, surgery! I can't believe it is so close now.

    Liquid diet begins....

I don't know if i could do this pre-op diet for 35 days. That's a long time to only be on 900 cal a day! I'm not permitted any solid food on my 2 week pre-op; only liquids and 800 calories a day max. I don't think I've come close to that yet! I wish you much luck sticking to it.

    Liquid diet begins....

Days 1-3 are difficult, but then you begin adjusting by Day 4. I'm on Day 7 today and not feeling hunger too much anymore. The loose bowels are getting better too. This is really weird how the progression of this all goes. Hang in there. You'll get through it. I had a headache for Days 1-3 as well.

    Liquid diet begins....

Thanks for answering Ashlie M. It just sometimes helps to know you are not going through the "TMI" parts of this process alone. I did google and there were many posts from people in years past who had bariatric and had the same experience on the pre-op diet. I was concerned mostly because I have to do a bowel prep Monday afternoon-evening for a colonoscopy on Tuesday. I did call the Gatrointestinal clinic and they said to do as much of the prep as needed to get output as clear as possible. So, okay. I'll just have to drink a ton of Water. I'm not a huge water person, so I'll do the best I can. We have the same surgery date, so yes, I am on Day 6 as well. The hunger is beginning to diminish, and I as well am continuing to do the broth, popsicles, Protein shakes. I just know that 20 min afterwards I'm going to be in the bathroom!

    Liquid diet begins....

TMI question here; is anyone else having problems with bowels with this liquid diet? This is Day 4 for me and I've had two episodes of very loose BM's. I also get a bit of cramping and my stomach gets really bloated and hard afterwards for a bit. I understand everything going in is liquid and liquid shall come back out, but I have to do a bowel prep Monday for a colonoscopy on Tuesday and I'm slightly concerned that I'll become dehydrated or ill. I think I might have to call the doctors office tomorrow to find out how to handle this. I can't imagine taking Imodium would be prescribed since I believe this is what they want is for the body to be cleansed. Anyone else having problems?

    Liquid diet begins....

Every doctor is different in how they handle their patients with the liquid diet prior to surgery. It may also be the insurance who dictates some of how it should be handled. I know my surgeon requires the 2 week pre-op liquid diet to help shrink the liver and also to get the body ready for rapid weight loss. That is what the paperword says anyway. I'm from Cleveland, Ohio. My surgery is being performed at The Cleveland Clinic and my surgeon is Dr. Phillip Shauer. He is the head of the Bariatric and Metabolic Institute at The Cleveland Clinic-Cleveland. Day 4 of the liquid diet. Doing okay so far. I have added a few oyster crackers to my broth at meal time. I need just a tiny bit of sustanance to stave off the hunger pains. I thought as a diabetic I pee'd a lot throughout the day; it is nothing compared to this liquid diet!! I should have bought stock in toilet paper! I have included greek yogurt in my diet plan right now as well. I use it as a dessert at night. Helps to keep me satiated throughout the night. I also have to watch my blood sugar so it doesn't bottom out while I'm asleep. Going into a low state of blood sugar when you are sleeping is no fun; I've experienced that before and trust me it is scary. Also I found these fruit/veggie sugar free popsicles (low carb too) made by Outshine that are to die for! The popsicles satisfy the need to "chew" on something. Okay, I'm making myself hungry now! No more food talk! 10 days my fellow April 11th peeps! 10 days!

    Liquid diet begins....

I am allowed to have Protein shakes/drinks, Water, broth, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, decaf coffee/tea, calorie free decaf any type of drink. I am a diabetic T2 and have to use everything that is sugar free, so it is hard for me to hit 800 calories a day on this diet (that is the amount of calories permitted).

    Liquid diet begins....

Well we have an April 11th group here! I'm scheduled for the same date and of course today is Day 3 of the liquid diet. Yesterday was terrible as far as the hunger was concerned. Today (so far) I'm doing better. I am using a Protein shake (vanilla) with 30 grams Protein in the morning as my coffee cream since they told me no half and half because of the calories. I have had a dull headache for the past 3 days and I don't know if it is because of such low intake or the weather (I live in Northeast Ohio and it keeps going up and down temp wise. Messes with the allergies and sinuses terrible). I'm doing my best, but I have not been able to get to the 800 calories a day yet. I have no problem with meeting the protein because the Premier Protein shakes have 30 grams per, and I also have Boost at 13 grams per, and Kellogg's at 10 grams per (the Kellogg's for me taste terrible), so no problems there. Everything else I eat is sugar free, low carb, or just not many calories, so I think Monday I hit 590 calories, and yesterday was probably around 690. How do they expect you to go two weeks with such small amount of food? Doesn't the body go into starvation mode? Oh well, here's to all of us April 11th candidates for surgery. Oh, and my husband is very supportive as well. He has been either leaving to eat dinner or making himself salads so I don't smell the food! He's a doll.

    RNY in T-12 hours. Whaaaa?

So glad to see how positive you are after surgery sassyfrass! I missed you! So happy to know that the discomfort is not too extreme. I was given a prescription for oxycodone for home after surgery, but I'm not sure I want to even fill it. If the pain is manageable, then I'd rather just do liquid tylenol. I'm not too hip on taking opiods. What the heck is "man fat" and how is it different than "woman fat"? I'm glad though that you had this done now rather than have waited for something terrible to happen a few years down the road. Get your rest. We will chit-chat later. Glad to hear that you are doing so fabulous!!!
  11. I'm on Day 2 of my 2 week liquid pre-op diet and all of you are very lucky! I'm only allowed liquids; as in broth, decaf coffee (no cream), decaf tea, SF Jello, SF popsicles, and I added a Light and Fit Yogurt in the mix since I am having difficulty getting in 800 calories. Yesterday I only managed 590 calories total. I had a headache all day too. I of course can use Protein shakes, but can only have a total of 60-80 grams of protein daily. With a Premier Protein shake, they are 30grams of protein for one, so if I do 2 a day, I only have 20 more grams of protein for the day. It's a bit tough, but doing okay so far. I am drinking chicken broth for lunch (2 cups equal 20 calories and less than 2 grams carb with 2 grams Protein. So it is my go-to to fill my stomach up when I get hunger pains. Hanging in there. Again, you are all lucky your surgeon is allowing so much actual "food" in your pre-op. Good Luck to you all.

    Anxiety

Grounding definitely works when anxiety or panic sets in as an attack. Stop, look around, see that there is nothing that is causing you to be in danger. deep breaths, calm thoughts. Works well.

    SURGERY DATE!

Your name kinda cracks me up because it could be my name too. I'm happy, I'm a mama, and my last name begins with a k! I also have my surgery date; April 11th! I was wondering the same thing so glad you asked it and glad someone answered. It definitely helps me to mentally prepare for it. Good Luck!!!
  16. @@Chrystee, I agree with others here who have said it most likely isn't you...with that said, should you end your marriage over this? That is a question that really only you can answer. Other than the low intimacy contact, and the fact that your husband admits to liking BBW more, how is the rest of your relationship going? Do you still love him? Are you still attracted to him? Are you asking for more sex than was there before the weight loss? Like I've said in past posts here; my husband has a diminishing sex drive. I used to call him a hounddog because he was always hounding me for sex! I do enjoy sex, and I pretty much always gave in to his demands, but I did not really need it as much as he did. Now that we are older, and yes he lost 80 lbs over the last 4 years (he used to be 285 lbs and now goes between 205-210), and unfortunately I've gained belly weight because of insulin use, I wouldn't say the roles are reversed, but I would like a bit more intimacy than what we are currently having. If my husband didn't want to have sex at all anymore, I don't think it has to do with my body. If that is the case, and he swears to me it is not, then perhaps things will change once I finally have my surgery and begin loosing weight. If they stay the same, then I would suggest some self-play toys for you. Trust me, it helps. I truly love my husband, and yes I still find him attractive but in a different way then I did when we were in our 20's. I love my husband's silliness and his smile. I love his huge hugs and childish teasing. I love his love for our children and family, and his love of all animals. Sex is a plus in a marriage, but realistically it is not needed (if that is the case) to remain happy with your mate. These are questions you need to ask yourself. If you man likes BBW and you are not that anymore, then he will need to come to terms with it. If not, don't feel like you are not attractive. You are beautiful.
  17. This is also what my NUT said was best for protein/sugar, etc for after surgery. I haven't tried it yet because I'm not a huge fan of yogurt, but I plan on getting some for my pureed phase. Adding a little Protein shake to thin it out sounds like a good idea! Only problem I have with the Oikos triple zero Greek yogurt is that is does have a few more grams of protein that the Light and Fit Greek yogurt, but the sugar content is higher and so are the carbs. For those extra 2-3 grams of protein I'd rather do much lower carb. Just me though. I'm used to looking at carbs rather than anything else because I'm diabetic. You may differ because of not having other health issues.
  18. I eat the Light and Fit yogurt as well. I like them pretty well. I like that they are pretty low carb (most are just 9 g of carb unless they have chocolate on top...then they are 11g of carb).
  19. Maybe you could add a little fluid, like a little of a protein shake to the yogurt and thin it out?
  20. I grew up chubby...I have two sisters and both were very thin when we were younger. I heard "you have such a pretty face" from everywhere. I knew the rest was "if you just lost some weight...". I guess that would have made me a beauty like my sisters then. I grew up believing I was not as good as either of my sisters because I was fat. My Mom tried to always put me on a diet when I was a young teen; probably around 11-13 years old. I know she meant well, and she didn't want me to suffer the mental abuse from being chubby. But, it was so difficult because I would see both my sisters eating stuff I wanted to eat too. I never held it against my Mom though. She was chubby pretty much after she had us 3 girls, but I loved her so much. I would let her put me back on those diets if she were just still here. My Mom passed away 11 years ago this May from end stage renal failure from diabetes. That is why I'm having this surgery; my need is not to be skinny...just healthy. The skinny part is just a side benefit. I am so sorry that so many of you grew up with a Mom who berated you for being overweight. It makes my heart hurt because even though I didn't have that from my Mom, my Dad dislikes fat people, and I did feel the beratement from him. Maybe not as severe as some of you, but enough to hurt and scar.
  21. If you are looking for a more natural, holistic way to be calm and sleep, try using GABA. GABA is a natural thing that is made by the brain. It is part of the whole "feel good" hormones that our body produces. I use 1 750 mg GABA capsule right before bed and it definitely helps me quiet my mind, feel calm and sleep very well. Start with 750 mg and then if you need more, bump up to 1500. You can find GABA in any healthfood store, GNC, or any place with Vitamins. Realistically, if smoking a bowl here and there calms you and helps you sleep, I see no harm. In this day and age, marijuana is really pretty benign.

    Skinny

Carol (baconville): Just looked at your before and after pictures. WOW! You look fantabulously skinny! Did you have skin removal surgery, and if not, how did you accomplish no bulgy loose skin? Absolutely wonderful. I just received my surgery date of 4/4/16 and am so very excited to finally begin this chapter of my life! I hope to have the success that you obviously are maintaining. You inspire me. Thanks for sharing.
  23. @@sassyfrass23 I do have a pre-op diet. It is a two week liquid protein shake diet. Isn't that what you have too? I hope my date will be around yours. We will see once the nurse calls me. Hopefully I'll hear from her and schedule surgery by this coming Friday! Hubby is excited and scared for me too. He is just praying that this will help all my health issues. He will be my biggest supporter, and trust me when I tell you, he watches my eating like a hawk! Can't get away with anything with him around! hhahahaha
  24. Just got a call from the Navigator at the Cleveland Clinic...received final approval from my insurance for the surgery!!!!! Now I have to wait for the surgeons nurse to call to schedule! EEEEEEEEE! I'm so excited!!!!!!

Thank you. I understand that his diabetes has nothing to do with whether or not I get it, but just watching him suffer scares me. That could happen to me if I don't get my weight under control. Yes, I understand that. I am a type 2 diabetic on an insulin pump and still cannot get control. That is why I'm having this surgery. I need to lose weight in order to lessen the insulin resistance.
