All great information. I think I might get off the blood pressure med. I see my Endo doctor this week for my blood sugar, so I'll question it with her.
-
I was placed on a high blood pressure pill back in October/November so perhaps it could be that? I take the pill in the morning, after waking up so would it still affect me prior to taking it for the day? This morning I had slight dizziness, but nothing like the day before. I made sure to get enough Protein in yesterday, so perhaps that was the reason? Either way, I'll have to get a blood pressure kit for home so I can keep my eye on it. I know when I was in the hospital my blood pressure was on the low side, and I did not have my blood pressure pill, so it could be that. Perhaps I don't need it anymore.

Thanks James...I am a Type 2 diabetic and know all about hypoglycemia. Used to have reactive hypoglycemia prior to turning full blown diabetic, so I know the signs. I actually did check my blood sugar this morning (I do every morning anyway). It was fine, so that wasn't it. I really do think it had to do with the Protein. I didn't think I hit my protein the day before, and most everything I read said protein and fluids are usual culprits. Thanks for replies. Feeling better now.

I will try more fluids, but I know I get in much more than 64 oz a day. I'll try to get in more. Perhaps I didn't have enough before bedtime. Maybe I need to up the nighttime liquid, and Protein.

My journey so far. Still PreOp--
Renkoss replied to RNY-Gal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mudgy6, try to stay away from carby foods like breads, Pasta, rice, potatoes. Use veggies for most things and be sure to get in good Protein. Exercise can be done from a chair. If you can google chair exercises, you will find lots of things you can do while sitting to get in some exercise. Start slowly and work your way up to a 30 minute or so routine. Good Luck to you! -
pre-op, but post-op diet question?
Renkoss replied to mostly10's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Non-fizzy sugar free/low sugar decaf liquids only. I use Crystal Light, Water, Decaf coffee, Gatorade G2. You can make decaf iced tea as well. -
Creamy Soups, straight up or mixed?
Renkoss replied to jea(n__n)ette's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Only 4 days pre-op and eating cream soup already? I'm just beginning cream soup and I'm 2 weeks post op. If you feel full, then leave it at that. You are going to feel different sensation when food is in your stomach now. Wait like an hour or two and see how you feel then. -
Day 5 of pre-op and I miss food.
Renkoss replied to LibrarianBecky's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The post op is not as bad as the pre-op because your stomach will be smaller and unable to handle a lot. Pre-Op your body wants more. Trust me you will not have hunger like you do prior to surgery. -

Not bad at all! I was only allowed Protein shakes, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, broth, decaf coffee/tea, crystal light, Water. That's it! You are doing pretty good with the amount of food you can eat! -
I like the tuna and avocado suggestion. That sounds delicious. What is roast chook?

I suck at this protein thing!
Renkoss replied to ambermj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are just having a tough time with all this aren't you? I really feel for you. I don't have a problem drinking the Protein drinks, but I really do not have a whole lot of hunger, so I'm forcing myself to drink them. Hang in there. It'll get better. -

You get to eat a lot more than I could on pre-op diet. I'm 1-1/2 weeks post op and just beginning to add in a little bit of pureed foods. You are going to be liquid for at least 2 weeks after surgery. What got me through was the thought that some day I'll be able to eat food again, but right now this is what I have. You'll get through it. -
I admit some baby food is yucky, but tonight I had a tablespoon of carrots and a tablespoon of vegetable beef. Mixed together it was horrible. I can't say it was outstanding, but it wasn't horrible. I've had the baby applesauce before and it is pretty good. Hey, it filled me up without using too much food.
-
I did buy cream Soups that I will strain, I have canned tuna, and I'm pretty sure I have beans. Hummus I did not even think of for this stage! Do you just eat the hummus alone? I wonder why baby food isn't the best option? I did look at the labels and only got ones that were lower sugar content, carb content, and calories. I figured it would be good to start introducing meats back to my diet.

Knowing you are all out there helps a great deal. I have to really push myself to drink the Protein shakes. I just open one and sip it for however long it takes me to finish it. Sometimes its over an hour, but you have to get the protein in. This also counts towards liquids, so its a two-fer. I just always keep something by me like a bottle of Water, decaf coffee (I drink a lot of decaf coffee), popsicles, etc. I began adding a bit of pureed food to my diet and realized how very little it takes to fill me up. I probably pureed about 1/3 of a cup of chili and I was able to eat just a few spoonfuls before I knew I was full. Felt good to have something a bit more spiced than beef or chicken broth! I also have added some baby applesauce as well. Gerber has little rectangle containers that seem to be the perfect size. I also use a baby spoon to eat. Makes you feel you are eating more than you really are. My most difficulties come with take the vitamins/supplements. I do not have chewable Calcium or Iron, and those two pills are kind of big. I may have to look for chewables until I'm back to regular foods and my pouch can handle it. I don't want to get anything stuck in the new opening. As far as tired, we are only one week out from surgery. This was a major surgery; things were moved around, removed, changed, etc. A new way of eating and moving and such will come in due time. Take the time to rest your body and learn this new lifestyle. I'm sure by the time we hit 6 weeks, everything will seem so much better. I completely expected this first month to be a bit rough. Keep your chin up and spirits high. We'll get through this together with each others support!

Can I Have Optifast After Surgery?
Renkoss replied to smashley296's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry. I didn't realize that something that is designed to help a person loose weight would be so high in carbs and sugar. I would never had said yes that it would be okay! Just shows you really have to read your labels. I use Premier because it has such low carbs and sugars. Good Luck. -

Liquid diet begins....
Renkoss replied to apmcleish's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Other than this damned JP drain I have hanging out of my body, I'm feeling pretty good. Haven't used any pain meds in the last 2 days, and the soreness feels like some muscle overuse at this point. I go to my first follow up with the surgeon tomorrow morning and hopefully this drain will be removed. It seems to be not draining as much anymore anyway. Glad you are feeling better Amber. Take it one day at a time. I'm sure everyday you will feel better. Look at all us April 11th people...we are one week out already!!! That week went by pretty quickly. Hopefully the weight is going just as quickly! -
Feeling the same way. Day 6 post op and I have no desire to eat or drink, but I force myself to do so. I'm actually having difficulty knowing if I'm full or not. Don't know if I am actually experiencing any hunger pains either. I guess I have to wait until the swelling goes down in my midsection. Today was the first day I didn't feel a need to take any pain medication (not even Tylenol). The "pain" has turned mostly into soreness, and getting mild at that. I've been eating mostly sf popsicles because I have quite a variety of them. Not drinking too much broth right now, or eating Jello, but I do incorporate them into the mix. Mostly decaf coffee, Protein shakes, and popsicles. Don't get worried unless you cannot force yourself to drink or "eat" yet. It will be fine for a while.

The barium swallowing x-ray darnell is speaking of was done on me while still in the hospital before allowing me to go from Clear liquids to just liquids. Took a whole 15 minutes from beginning of test to completion of test. -

Anyone else put on oxygen therapy after surgery?
Renkoss posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had Roun Y surgery on April 11th, and came home 4/13. My oxygen that was monitored on pulse oximeter kept going below 90, so they have me on oxygen therapy now. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm slightly concerned and a little down about this development. Does this mean I have to be on oxygen for the rest of my life? Am I going to have to have a rolling oxygen tank with me where ever I go? -

Then you have a portable one. They didn't order mine to be portable. I have one loose oxygen tank in case I need it for being out and about and it started to slide where I have it resting and it hit my leg. Damn did it hurt!!! I hate these things. Sorry you got sent home with one too.
