What was YOUR Moment of decision?

HH-I'm just curious here. I stayed out of your thread that has been moved twice concerning your health issues that have arisen (not sure that is proper grammar) from the lb. You state you want to warn those considering the lb to the possible side effects and complications so they are well informed. You had numerous people attack you and your posts because they sound as if you are trying to sell something later on to us. Then, someone finds you on an internet marketing website stating that you were thinking about writing one or two e-books on your experiences and those of other bandsters you have "interviewed". You came back with the stance that you have not written any e books or tried to sell anything. I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt even though I was catching a whiff of the bs the others were attacking you on. Now, I come on this thread and find you asking for stories on how people came to the decision to get the band. You even take the time to give your story as to how you came to the decision. Yet, you never take the time to write a complete history on your difficulties from the band in the other thread stating NUMEROUS times you don't have the time to do so. I'm not attacking you, just wondering about the inconsistencies in your threads. Also, you make no mention of your difficulties you have had, just give your story on your decision. To me, it just seems as if you are "interviewing" more bandsters to try and get their stories for one of your e-books. If this is not as it seems to me, and you are on the up and up, I apologize. However, I for one, will not be sharing my story with you. I don't want to inadvertently end up as a source for what I see coming down the line.
  2. I voted yes, but I'm not sure I would say so much that it is more "respect". I tend to get more people coming up and talking to me or actually looking me in the eyes. But, part of the problem has always been the uniform I wear. Some people just don't care for, or are intimidated by, police officers. However, maybe it could be called respect. I no longer have to listen the remarks/jokes at my expense about being "Big". Both by fellow officers and friends. But then, it could be my attitude and confidence level are at all time highs as well.

Cardio this morning for 60 minutes on elliptical.
  4. Yeah, I ran into the same problem when I initially called to ask about coverage. The rep said something along the lines of "as far as I can tell, you should be covered". WTF? As someone said previously, they are looking at my policy in front of them. When I called to check on the status of my request initially, I was told I was denied. But, they couldn't tell me the reason as far as they could tell. BC/BS of IL sucks big time.

Stef-all I can say is "wow". I can't even imagine going through that much for as long as you did. You truly are a warrior, almost a "guy" for not going in earlier. Guys are pretty dumb that way. I hope it goes better for you soon. As for me, I woke up at 0500 this morning and hit the road running, literally. I ran the 3.1 mile track I described a couple weeks ago. Didn't officially time myself, but I'm pretty sure I was under 34 minutes. Then, hit the gym for 60 minutes on the elliptical. I'm doing this in anticipation of my first 5k next Saturday morning. I'll try to hit the road again on Wed morning before the gym again. Keep up the great work everyone!

Very nice Stef!! Looks like alot of fun at both. As for me, last night was upper body. Let me just say, I've always lifted, but I honestly feel as if I am getting to be stronger than ever before and working harder than ever before. The weights I'm throwing around, while nowhere near what a true powerlifter does, is so much more compared to my current weight than ever in the past. Ok, done tooting my own horn. This morning was 60 minutes on the elliptical. Have to work this weekend, so cardio will be trimmed down. Might be able to get out on the bike this weekend after work, but not holding my breath.:frown: Back to tooting my own horn, couple of nsv's to share. Tried on my shorts from last summer that were getting a little tight. Waaaay to baggie now. If I put a belt on, the shorts bunch up on the side and look awful. No way I can wear them again. 2nd one, the other day at home while changing, I noticed I have oblique muscles now. Where did those come from? Still got the love handles, but much smaller and the muscle is starting to show through.:w00t: I'll never have a 6 pack, but I'll take what I can get. Last one, yesterday I was walking through our dept when our training Lt that had been away at an FBI class for close to 3 mos mentioned I had lost enough weight to finally need new uni's. I looked him in the eye and said,"Yeah, again". I got new uni's at the end of last year around late Dec. Now, those are getting baggy. Been a great week for the esteem.

Thank you wombat for the kind words. More importantly, thank you to your father, your family and you for your fathers sacrifice. Not enough people think about the jobs we do unless they are inconvenienced by a ticket or one of us falls in the line of duty. God bless you and you family for the sacrifices you have made so he could protect the rest.

Ah, but today makes it almost worth it. Close to 70 and sunny. Only drawback is the wind is supposed to be gusting btwn 35 and 40 mph this evening. If I had my way, I would be in TX as well. Unfortunately, DW will not leave her home country.

    April Exercise Challenge

I'll post real quick and catch up on reading later. Friday night was lower body again. Damn, thought the squats would be easier, but no. Saturday morning I did 2 hrs. 10 minutes on elliptical. Sunday morning was 1 hr 10 minutes on elliptical and treadmill combined. Went real hard for 35 minutes on elliptical and then hopped on treadmill. Ran 2 miles and then walked 10 minutes. Yesterday was upper body and 1 hr 40 minutes on elliptical as I was off. This morning was 65 minutes on elliptical. Back in tonight for lower body. We'll see how the squats go this time. Luluc-I live in the Twin Cities. Luckily, no real snow Friday or Saturday, just real cold and rainy.

Ovah-all are welcome. The more the merrier. As for me, back in at 0500 this morning for cardio. Drove into work so I got 65 minutes in. Back tonight for upper body workout. Supposed to snow again from this afternoon/evening until Saturday morning. Dammit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to go outside and get busy with the bike and softball.

    April Exercise Challenge

Went last night for lower body. Did squats for the first time in about 2 mos.....damn, my quads hurt. Amazing how I can do hack squats and leg presses that entire time and I still hurt after squats. Anyway, this morning was 50 minutes on elliptical again. No lifting tonight as it is a non lifting day. Back at it tomorrow morning.

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

I stayed away from that link. Figured it wasn't for me.:frown: And, my I have to tell DW not to discuss those aspects with me. She likes to hint at it to make me squirm.

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

I know, I know, I'm a cop, EMT and seen many a nasty things. I just get uncomfortable with women and bodily functions.:frown: Oh well, what are you gonna do?

    April Exercise Challenge

I think I've mentioned this before in these challenge threads, but the P.A. I see and I do not see eye to eye on this. She keeps looking only at the amount of food I eat each meal and thinks only of what most bandsters will eat. She forgets to take into account that I exercise more than probably 95% of her patients. I need the calories to fuel my exercising. And, now with spring/summer coming on, I'm going to continue needing those calories probably more so. I am playing in one softball league, subbing for about 2 or 3 more and umping softball 2 nights a week. Not to mention, I do not plan on sliding on my workouts. May do more biking than treadmill/elliptical, but still lifting. And, no to tights. No way will you ever find me in tights. Unless, it is underneath a couple layers of normal clothing.:frown:

I started exercising & stopped losing???

I am 7 1/2 mos post op. I've lost over 100 lbs since then. However, if I didn't workout as much as I do (7 mornings a week for cardio and 4 nights a week lifting) I could have lost soooooooooooo much more. At the beginning of Feb., I had a personal trainer re measure my body as opposed to when I joined last April. In that time, I had lost nearly 40" off my body. Exercising, especially resistance training, will build muscle. And, as the old addage says "muscle weighs more than fat". It's not just the scale that is important. If you are still losing size, you are accomplishing something. Eventually, you will start to lose weight again. Just make sure you are eating correctly, and enough as ironic as that sounds, and you'll get off your plateau soon.

Honestly, I don't worry about the carbs too much. I just watch what I am eating. I do not snack on candy, chips, chocolate the way I used. Now, my Snacks consist of a Protein drink, milk, kashi cereal. That being said, I have felt the way you are decribing from time to time. Usually, after a very intense workout. For me, it seems to come more from the blood going to bigger muscle groups during the workout than anything else. I do believe in the whole protein w/i half hr after the workout. Makes a difference in how I feel afterwards and in my recovery.

Why Lap Band vs Gastric Bypass

I never even consider the RnY surgery. I did not like the cutting involved with the digestive system. Not to mention the dumping syndrome, the malnutrition and numerous other complications. But, most importantly, the lapband gave me control over what happened with the weight loss. If I get to my goal and can't maintain, I can have the lb adjusted. Can't do that with the RnY. And, it can be reversed if something goes wrong. Can't do that with RnY either.

One more thing I thought I would share. The most amazing thing has been happening to me more and more at work lately. People are passing me, coming up to me or just plain stopping me and telling me how great I look. I love it. Since I had been wearing my uniform windbreaker most of the winter, and it is now about 2 sizes too big, most people apparently weren't paying that close of attention to me over the winter. Now that I gave up the windbreaker even with the temp being only in the 40's, people are noticing. Again, I LOVE IT! It just keep me motivated to keep working at it and get to my goal weight. Then, we'll see. Lately, I've been considering lowering my goal weight to 225. I think it actually may be doable.

Thank you, thank you ladies. But, seriously, no need to bow down to me. I'm just a simple man......with illusions of grandeur (sp) like any other man, of course. But, it really isn't that difficult for me with the movie playing on the big screen. Just watch the movie and time flies. Last night was the beginning of the new 3 wk cycle for upper body as mentioned. Increased the weights and changed most of the exercises, 7 reps per. This morning was 65 minutes on the elliptical again-5.41 miles and 1115 calories. Tonight will be lower body. I'm envious of your bike riding abilities. I wish the weather would get about 10 degrees warmer so I could get out there. Had that one good weekend and then nothing. Maybe I'm just too big a baby to go riding in 40 degree weather. Oh, and Stef, trust me, if the cops down there are like most, they cheer on all hotties regardless of the activity. That just gave them a chance to do it in the open. Oh, and I weighed myself at the gym on Sunday. Read at 270, but I'm not changing things yet. I tend to bounce a couple lbs every couple of days. I'll check again later this week. We'll see if that holds true. But, it would be a pretty big milestone for me. When I started this whole thing, I said I wanted to be btwn 250 and 270 at the end of it. I revised it later as the weight started falling off. But, it would be my initial goal is met.

Stef-great job on the ride! Sounds like it was alot of fun. And, of course, having the police there cheering you on had to be fun.:Dancing_wub: As for me, I did my lower body workout Friday night to end the 3 wk cycle at 12 reps each exercise. Saturday morning, I had decided to try my own little 5k around the neighborhood. I have a couple different routes I take while walking the dog. One is .9 mile around, another is 2.2 miles=3.1 miles. Started off with my dog Willie on the .9 mile route, got by my house and put him in the house as he is too fat after this winter. Then, went on the 2.2 mile route. Ran the whole way, which amazed me figuring the outdoor run would be harder than on the treadmill. After, hopped in the Explorer and went to the gym. 65 minutes on the elliptical and then home with DD while DW went to the office. Later, took Willie for a 1.5 mile walk around the neighborhood on a different route. Sunday, couldn't go outside due to rain:frown:. So, 2 hr 15 minutes on elliptical. This morning was 50 minutes on the elliptical. Tonight is back to the gym to start a new 3 wk cycle. No bike riding due to having DD all day on Saturday and rain yesterday. So, I'll get some in this week hopefully.

No ride for me this weekend.:purplebananna: Had DD all day on Saturday and yesterday it rained all day. Oh well, that is April up here. I'll be putting the mileage on soon enough. Just sucks having a great new bike collecting dust on the weekend.

J-sounds like my babydoll Cera. She loves art. Will sit for hours doing her "projects". We can ask her if she wants to do an extracurricular or something like tball. Always art class! She is showing some spark for soccer though. We tried dance for her as well. She loves to dance and make up her own moves, but just didn't like the whole class and structure aspect of it. I'm going to try to get out tomorrow and Sunday for longer rides. We'll see how it goes, chance of rain each day, but upper 50's also.

Trust me Stef, you won't even have to try to set me up. I can almost make any statement dirty in my mind. I try to hide it from DW as much as possible, but sometimes it slips. Ok, last night was upper body circuits at 12 reps. As I predicted, it was an a$$kicker. This morning was elliptical for 50 minutes, 850 calories and 4.1 miles.
