Off yesterday to chaperone DD's kindergarten class to an arberitum (sp). Did 1 hr 40 min on elliptical. Softball last night. Held myself to only one beverage this time. This morning, got up and did 65 min on elliptical. Tonight is upper body.

Ok, I can finally take part in this thread again as the weather finally has cooperated. Sunday, I rode my bike around town 16 miles, taking trails, roads, sidewalks. Had alot of fun, even the 1 mile up hill battle I had midway through. Last night, I had to ump for adult softball, so I figured why waste the gas? I hopped back on the bike and road the 3.5 miles to and from the fields. Lot of fun, but my ass is sore. Gotta look into buying bike shorts.

Ok, haven't posted in a couple of days. Been pretty hectic, but still got my workouts in. Here is the lowdown: Saturday-Did 65 minutes of HARD interval training on ellipical machine. Followed that with 1.55 miles (1/2 5k) in 15 minutes of running on treadmill. Followed that with another 50 minutes on the elliptical. Total of 11.4 miles and 2350 calories. Sunday-skipped the gym in favor of outdoor activities as it was FINALLY nice on a weekend day here. Rode my bike for 16 miles, put the dog on the leash and walked/ran (1/2 and 1/2) for a 5k around the neighborhood. Got home, thought to myself "I'm done, got no more energy". Then, realized immediately that was not true, had plenty more. Went outside and raked the front yard. Monday-Had to call off from work due to Water heater problem at home.:tt1: But, got 2 hrs 10 minutes on the elliptical again. Went home, took care of water heater problem, hopefully. Went back to the gym and hit the upper body workout. Kind of tired after all the previous stuff, but made it through the 11 rep circuits. Last night, I rode my bike 3.5 miles each way to ump. Loved it, but my ass is really sore today after the last 2. This morning was 60 minutes on elliptical again. Tonight will be lower body.

Ok, I had to start one of these. I know it's not quite April, but with it snowing here, I had to at least have April thoughts. Let's keep up the great work and see the results coming. Me personally, I want to be below 270 before softball starts at the end of the month. Shooting for 267-268

Yeah, since I spend so much time at the gym, I've gotten to know most of the trainers pretty well. We joke around quite often. If you can't have fun at the gym, you shouldn't be going.
-
Funny you mention this. As I was working out my legs this morning, I was joking with one of the personal trainers at the gym while she was with a client. I asked if it wasn't to early to be torturing someone. She came back with "you are here voluntarily every day, so which is worse?". I retorted that what I did would be called masochistic (sp). What she does is sadastic.

Stef-hang in there. Hopefully, you can get a fill soon and start losing again. In the meantime, just keep working so you don't lose the momentum.

I could have had more, but just decided against it. Didn't want that many, just got caught up in my first basemans 40th b-day. I'm going to limit myself to 2 tops each game night. Just have to make sure to bring a couple bottles of water to reach for in the cooler instead of a beer. Forgot about another nsv last night. The last few years, after playing doubleheaders, I'd go out with the guys and sit around for awhile. By the time I got home, my knees were so stiff and sore, I could barely get out of the truck. Last night, I didn't even think about them when I got home. This morning, my legs were a little stiff from the sprinting, but after a shower, they were fine. One more reason to be shouting about the great things the Lap Band can do for someone.

No no, not overserved. Just a total of 4 over about a span of 5 1/2 hrs. Just didn't feel like getting up this morning. Once I got my Crystal Light energy drink in, I was fine. But 0430 just wasn't going to happen today. I'll get back to my "normal" routine tomorrow.

Great job on the 5k time Wombat! Keep up the great work. I just signed up for 3, yes 3, more 5k runs in the next 1 1/2 mos. Including one next Saturday. Now looking at 2 sprint triathlons by my town by the end of the summer. As for exercise, I failed this morning. I had my first night of softball last night and I partook in a couple of.....ahem......beverages. Had 4 over the course of the night, but also went out with the team afterwards and didn't get to bed until after 2300. Alarm went off waaaaaaaaaaaaay too early. For the first time, I didn't talk myself into getting up. It was close, but I have my monthly PA appt today at 1400 and figured I can get my upper body and cardio work in before having to pick DD up from in laws afterwards. So, I will still get it in, just not at my normal time. As for last night, oh what a difference 110 lbs make. I was flying, for me, around the bases last night. First time up, I got to 1B so quick, my steps were off and had to hustle out a double on a ball that went to the fence on the fly. But, last year I would have settled for a long single. Last night, no way that was happening. I was ever close to breathing as hard as I did last year. So much better.
-
Good luck on the ride Stef. And enjoy being with your hubby!:smile2: As for me, last night was lower body again. Don't know what happened, may have gone too hard last night, but I kept getting awakened in the middle of the night with cramps in my lower legs.. This morning was cardio again. 60 minutes on elliptical doing interval training. Hopefully, this will crack my plateau. Not in time for my dr appt tomorrow, but we'll see for next month. I'm still down about 6-7 lbs this month.

Yeah, daddy, the weather was not what I wanted, but it could have been so much worse. Good luck on the duathlon. I've thought about trying one of those, but I need so much work on the swimming for the tri, I'm going to stick to the runs and work on that. You're so right, you start off and you really don't know how fast you are going until it's over. But, I was so happy to see I beat my goal by over 3 minutes. Who would have guessed 1 yr ago that either one of us would be doing this stuff? We went from the "Big Guy" to long distance runners. luluc-great job on the boot camp! Whatever it takes to keep you moving, keep doing it!

So, as I've noted the past couple of weeks, I've been in a low point on my band journey. I plateau'ed for about 2 weeks now and can't get off about 271-272. Just haven't been feeling "right". Last night, I think I came up with the reason, finally, for both. Friends I've talked to have been asking if I am doing everything the same as before. Answer: YES! Therein lies the problem. My cardio has been the same for about 6-7 wks now. Nothing different. I hop on the elliptical, set the resistance @ 8 and go for at least 60 minutes. No interval training, very little running, just elliptical at the same resistance/pace. I honestly think my body got too used to the routine and I've been stuck in a rut. This morning, I meant to do interval, but started hitting buttons and didn't want to do it all over, so I set it at resistance level 9 and picked up the pace. My HR still was in weight loss range for 53 of the 65 minutes I did this morning and I feel BETTER! I can't believe it took me this long to see the problem. Oh well, hopefully, I am back at it again with renewed vigor. Now, for a nsv. Last year I umped for the first time in my cities adult softball leagues. Wasn't very good at moving from behind the plate. Last night I got a call to sub for the co rec league. Went out and was running down the first base line every time there was a close play at 1B. Moved around the field the whole 2 hrs I was umping. Both teams were surprised to see an ump doing that much, especially at 1B and mentioned it numerous times.:coolgleamA: Now, I'm set up to ump every Monday night out there. Also, I have played against and umped for most of these players before and I don't think hardly a one recognized me. At least, they didn't mention it to me that they did.:cool2:

Thanks luluc. The thing that really made people wonder about me is that after the run, I dropped Charlie off at a bar for an NFL draft party, dropped DW and DD off at home, then hit the gym for 90 minutes of cardio. Felt really good for the first 60, then hit a wall. Had alot of people calling me nuts after that one.:wink2: Yesterday, I had to force myself into the gym for 65 minutes of cardio, normally do 2 hrs on my days off, then home for a nap. This morning was 65 minutes on elliptical. Tonight is back to upper body workout.

Ok everyone, here is an update from last week. For some reason the computers at work didn't like this site last week. So, I maintained my routine through Thurs. Friday, I got up at 0500, did my lower body workout but no cardio. I went in to work for one of my Lt's retirement Breakfast, picked up my package for my 5k run on Saturday, then took it easy the rest of the day. Saturday I ran my first 5k in about 24 yrs. Cold as hell and snowing the entire time. Start temp was about 31 w/windchill of around 17. My BIL, my friend Charlie and I all started at the same time. About 1350 runners. We started about 1/3 of the way back in the pack. BIL took off from us, Charlie and I ran side by side the whole way (amazing since he hadn't run in about 2 yrs, but couldn't let the "fatboy" beat him:biggrin:). I was shooting for around 35 minutes, we crossed the line at 32:45. Official time was 31:49:eek::wink2:. Had alot of fun and looking for my next one in May. Here's a couple of pics DW took for me. DW and DD sat outside the entire time enduring the cold for me. I was so happy they did that. Charlie (in red), me and BIL waiting for start of run. Charlie and I giving the unofficial time at the finish line. Official was 31:49.

It's absolutely possible. I've lost close to 110 in about 9 mos. Exercise is the key component to it.

Had problems with the site yesterday. It was taking forever to load, so I was unable to post in here. Anyway, Tuesday night was lower body. Yesterday morning was cardio on elliptical for 60 minutes. Last night was softball practice. This morning was cardio on elliptical again for 60 minutes. Tonight is upper body again. I'm off work until next Monday after today, so I won't post my results on my first 5k until then. Wish me luck.

I do both. What I have found, for me, is that I prefer to do cardio in the morning so I can get it out of the way. Just have my bag ready before I go to bed, get up in the morning, out the door and in the gym at 0500 when they open. I do this 7 mornings a week. Then, I've found, I prefer to lift in the evenings. I am more awake and can concentrate on my form better. So, after I'm done in the morning, I leave the bag in the locker, head to work. After work, it is just the opposite of the morning. Back to the gym, lift for about 40 minutes 4 nights a week and back home. Makes for long days, but worth the effort I put in. Every 6 wks I take one week off from lifting to recoup and re energize.

Thanks luluc, this isn't the first time I've had this and I don't imagine it will be the last. Just a funk of sorts. Good luck on your bet, 1 hr of abs would completely SUCK!

Who are you after the weight is gone?
Ceradad replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When I first started researching the lapband, I saw many times that people get depressed AFTER the weight loss. I could not understand why/how that would happen. Now, I think I understand. People see and look at you different. They had you pegged in one hole and you are trying to fit into another one. That scares people. I work as a police officer. Let me tell you, if there is one group that doesn't like change, it the law enforcement community. Because of this, my standing in the pecking order in my dept is out of whack. And not just because of my fellow officers. I've always been a focus of jokes due to my size, which (to them) leads to less intelligence, and the amount of hair on my body. I have been called everything from Chewbacca to sasquatch and pretty much everything in btwn. I laughed it all off. I even called myself the "dept straight man" for the jokes. I set up the joke and the others would spike it home. Now, I just don't have the energy or desire to do that. As such, I find myself wondering where I fit in now. And, unfortunately, it is not just at work. My friends outside of church as well. I don't feel comfortable around a lot of them anymore. Hopefully, this is just a valley in my lb journey and I will come out on the other side stronger. Just have to be patient I guess. -
Great job on the run today Wombat! Amazing how good it feels, doesn't it? If you are serious on the 5k runs, go online and do a simple search in your area. You will be amazed how many there are that you didn't know about. If I wanted to, I could do 2 per weekend for the entire summer. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I think I'm just going through one of the valleys in my journey. Self doubt and wondering are taking hold inside me and I have to fend them off once again. I'll come out the other side all the better. Just have to keep the faith and continue working at it. Just don't want to lose the momentum. As for how often and how much I workout and lift, I've always been a gym rat when I had the drive. I just couldn't find the drive to make it in for extended periods of time. Once I got in there, few people could match my intensity. Now, because of my new sense of confidence in the gym, I have that. Plus, I've been going so much, so often, the staff all know me as do alot of the regulars. I've been accepted into one of the regulars. That is a first and it helps tremendously. Ok, so last night was upper body. Not sure if I mentioned this, but I decided to change things up a little this cycle. Instead of doing one day at a rep number, I am doing it twice for upper and lower body. So, instead of a 3 wk cycle, I changed it to a 6 wk cycle. I think it is really helping me on the workouts. I feel stronger when I increase the reps week to week. This morning was 65 minutes of cardio on elliptical.

Ok, this morning was 60 minutes on elliptical this morning. Lifting for upper body tonight. Sorry I haven't been overly chatty lately, I am just fighting the desire to stop working out right now. Been having to save all my encouragements for myself. Once I get through this period, I'll be back to my cheering, encouraging self. Good luck everyone. P.S. I think I said this over the weekend, but 6 more days until my first 5k. People find it amazing that I am doing this. Their jaws drop when I mention the mini tri's I'm looking at doing.

Anyone notice a difference on how you are treated once you start losing weight?
Ceradad replied to Ddem's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Flower Faery-I can feel your pain. I take the bus to and from work almost every day. I started this last summer at my heaviest weight (379). It was a new line from my town into dt Mpls. At first, there were so few people, I had my own seat both ways. As the line caught on, and gas prices started skyrocketing, more and more people started taking the bus. In the mornings, the earlier buses I catch are still pretty slow and I get my own seat. However, in the evening, there are almost always some people standing in the aisle. I've lost close to 110 lbs since my surgery last Aug. Because I lift weights, my body is even smaller than my weight would suggest. I am nowhere near as big as last year. I still have people get on the bus, look at me and the seat next to me, and move on to sit with others until they almost have to sit next to me. So, while I am smaller than ever in my adult life, because I'm still big (6'3" and 270) people still would rather sit with people that may smell than me. I just try to chock it up to their ignorance. -
Hi, Everyone....I think I'll be the contrarian voice here...
Ceradad replied to Headhunter's topic in Rants & Raves
The more I think about this whole thing, the more I tend to believe he is not on the up and up. Either he is not a bandster and is looking to do research for his own agenda/books. Or, he is a bandster and looking to do research for his own agenda/books. Both stories of his I've read on here smell of "basic". Like they are either something he made up in his mind, or he cobbled together from other stories he has read elsewhere. In the other thread I posted, his story is very basic. He says it was one incident that made him decide to get it. Pretty much everyone else rattles off numerous reasons as to how they came to the decision. I don't think I have met/talked with one person who has had WLS that had one major experience only that made them decide to get the surgery. Everyone I've dealt with has had alot of little minor ones that have led up to the decision. -

I have stayed clear of all of the drama here on purpose as I did not want to get caught up in it and constently get email alerts on this. However, after going through the website, I found an interesting thread started by this OP in the "General Lap Band Surgery Discussion" area. Take a look at it and see what you think. I decided I could not just sit here staying neutral. While not out and out calling him a liar/troll, he does seem to be starting threads to get reactions so he can "interview" all of us for his e-books. As I recall from the IM site that was brought up, he stated he wanted to do two books eventually. If nothing else, he is doing his interviewing on the cheap this way. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/what-your-moment-decision-59267/index2.html#post809810
