Thanks daddy. This may be my last one of the awhile. After this one, I start my training for 4 wks leading up to my first sprint tri on July 19. Then, another sprint tri on Aug 2. After those two, we'll see for more 5k's. Last night was my lower body workout. Had a tough time getting into the flow of it as there was a guy trying to show his wife how to do leg exercises and they kept using the machines I do my circuits on. Not saying they can't do it, just complaining about how they were doing it. He kept taking her to a new machine, give her the bare minimum of proper use, and then would go over to other areas to do HEAVY work on his own. She would stay on the machines instead of letting others use in btwn her sets. Plus, I am one of those people that get very irritated when working out. I don't like my routine to get messed up. But, I live with it as I know it is my issue, not theirs. This morning was 55 minutes on the elliptical again. No workout tonight as I have softball.
-
Last night was upper body at 10 rep circuits. Then, another 15 minutes on treadmill running for 10 minutes for 1.04 miles. This morning, back at the elliptical for 55 minutes. Tonight is lower body again. Gonna take it easy the rest of the week on the running as I have my 4th 5k on Saturday and my legs were killing me last night after the last 5 days of running, especially Sundays run.
-
Gotta play catch up from the weekend. Friday morning was both lower body and cardio of 65 minutes on elliptical and 25 minutes (2.1 miles ran in 20 minutes) on treadmill. Saturday morning was 65 minutes on elliptical and 25 minutes (2.15 mile run in 20minutes). Sunday went at it HARD. Set the treadmill for 60 minutes. Decided to run until I could not run anymore. Hit the 5 mile mark @ 50:25. Got in a total of 6.26 miles in 65 minutes (incl. cool down). Then hit the elliptical for 25 minutes. I've never run that far at one time. Heck, until the 5k's this summer, I've never run half that distance at one time. I couldn't believe I was able to do that. This morning was 65 minutes on elliptical and 15 minutes (1.05 miles in 10 minutes) on treadmill. Tonight is upper body again.

Don't know if this is too late, but I pureed some chicken breast in the blender with chicken broth. Then, added fat free refried beans, little ff sour cream and salsa. Just like the inside of an enchilada.:tongue2:

upper body workout last night. 60 minutes on elliptical this morning. Really tired this week as I can't seem to get to sleep at night, but still forcing myself to get up and hit the gym. I'm actually kind of hoping softball gets cancelled tonight so I can try to get to bed early. If not, then I won't see the bed until about 10:30 at the earliest.

I am 9 1/2 mos post op and have dropped 125 lbs (haven't updated my ticker). I am by far no expert, but when the surgeon told me pre op that exercise was just as important as diet to losing weight afterwards, I took him at his word. 2 days post op I started walking around the neighborhood only. I would only make it a few blocks due to still recovering, but I did it. After 1 week, I started hitting the gym to go on the treadmill once a day, every day. As I started feeling more and more sure, I upped the times and the speed. After 2 wks (drs time table), I started back into lifting weights. I would agree with previous posters that 800 calories may not be enough. I do at least 60 minutes pretty much every morning on the elliptical and/or treadmill and burn over 1000 calories alone there. 4 nights a week, I lift weights. I ride my bike at home around the neighborhood. If I don't feed my body, I stall on weight loss. You need food to survive. If you don't give it enough, you won't lose weight. Not saying to go pig out of food. Just make sure you are getting enough of the good foods. On a sidenote: I don't believe you have to be super tight/restricted for this tool to work for you. Just my $.02 worth.
-
Congrats mss! I also had qualms about jogging on the treadmills post op. Now, I run at least 3-4 times a week for up to 3+ miles. I've also just run in my 3rd 5k run this past Saturday. My mother came up for DD's b-day and was able to see me run it. She told DW she never thought she would see me run a 5k. Just keep working at it. As long as you keep track of how your body is doing, you will eventually be able to jog for longer time periods.
-
Last night I did my upper body circuits times 9 reps. Then, hopped on the treadmill and ran 1 mile in 9:30 just to keep the blood moving. Figuring if I run after I tire myself out, that can only increase my endurance. This morning was back on elliptical for 60 minutes of interval training. Tonight is lower body workout.

First off Grace, WAY TO GO with the weight loss. Especially in light of your disabilities. You are a true inspiration to the rest of us. That being said, I have to disagree with you on the "lapband is designed to work w/o diet and exercise" statement. Most of the "slow losers" on here, when confronted, admit they are not doing enough exercise (or none) and not eating properly. The lapband is a tool only. It can only do so much. W/o diet and exercise, you would have just as much success as if you took a hammer outside, layed it on the ground and expected to come back to a house built on that site. A tool is only useful when it is used for it's intended purpose.

daddy is absolutely correct. Just go, don't worry about what others may think. You aren't there for them, you are there for you. However, and trust me on this, the more you go and make progress, the more those people will encourage you on. I have worked out so much since my surgery last Aug, I am now considered one of the "regulars". Most of the hardcore people know me at least by face. They talk to each other and make sure to keep each other going. Also, don't compare yourself to others at the gym. Each person is different and can do different things. This is tough to do, but very important. Just keep looking at the progress you are making and it gets easier. If you look at others doing heavier weights or running/walking faster, you can get discouraged. Be happy for them they can do it and maybe set that as a long term goal. Good luck and keep at it.:tongue2:

daddy-congrats on the triathlon:thumbup:. Shooting for my first on July 19 and 2nd on Aug 2. For me, I did my cardio on Wed morning-90 minutes. Late softball games, so didn't get to bed until 11:30 and sleep eluded me until 1 am. Figured I would hit both cardio and upper body Thurs night. Didn't happen. Had a HUGE severe weather system move through and had to get home to take care of the house. Friday-hit the cardio for 90 minutes and upper body at night. Saturday-ran my 3rd 5k run so far this summer. Ran it in the same range as last one at 28:30. Another one in 2 wks. Then, start training for mini tri. Sunday-Did 65 minutes on elliptical and ran 1.6 miles on treadmill. This morning, I did 65 minutes on elliptical and ran 1 mile on treadmill. Tonight is upper body again.

Thanks for starting this luluc. I was starting to think this idea had run it's course. Little update for myself as I was encountering problems with the site over the last couple of weeks. Last month my gym had a team challenge going and members from my church and I signed up. Over the course of May, I lost 14 lbs and dropped my bf% below 16% for the first time in my life probably. I had 2 different trainers I know tell me I am really starting to get some serious definition (trainer taking my measurements said I made the 14 lbs look like 25). I can't believe how far I've come in 9 mos. Had a softball tourney all day on Saturday and Sunday morning, so no workout on Sunday. Yesterday was 60 min cardio in the morning and upper body in the evening. This morning was 60 min cardio again and lower body tonight. Tomorrow is DD's kindergarten graduation, so I took the day off and will hit the gym/cardio for at least 90 minutes and probably more like 2 hrs.
-
Well, as one has not been started yet, I'll start my 2nd month in a row challenge thread. Last night I made it into the gym and did my upper body and cardio in one hard stretch. This morning I did the same with lower body and cardio as tonight there is a get together for our Lt that retired last Friday. Have to make that. No beer though. I've had my quota for the week. (ok, a little more than my quota:rolleyes:) Had my monthly appt with the PA yesterday. She keeps calling me her star patient for what I've done with the program. Said as I have lost 49% of my excess body weight, (by my count that means they think I should weigh about 175 . Ain't no way that is happening) I no longer have to come in each month. I can set my own schedule. I'm going to go 2 mos this time and see how it goes. Ok everyone, let's start up the next month and keep the encouragement for each other going. 1 more week until my next 5k. This one will be more hilly, so I may not get the same time. But, just doing it is the important part, right?

Not really a rant, more of a question, but has anyone else been experiencing any problems with LBT lately? Up until today, the last couple of weeks when I try to get on, it locks up my computer at work. Just wondering if it had to do with works system or if the site has been experiencing any problems. No problems with other sites, just an fyi.
-
I've been looking at these for a couple of months. Started a thread awhile ago. I've got 2 I'm looking at before the end of the summer. One in July, the other beginning of August. The only problem I see for me is the swimming. I've never been a long distance swimmer, more for fun. But, I plan on hitting the pool 2-3 times a week and work on it. Of course, there is a difference btwn swimming in a pool by yourself and being in open Water with a bunch of people. I figure I'll just start at the back of the pack and let the good swimmers go ahead so I don't get in their way. Then, maybe I can make up a little time in bike and run. I want to finish more than compete. At least for now.:wink2:
-
Ok, been having problems with the site locking up my computer over the last couple of weeks so I haven't been able to post on here. However, I have been doing my workouts faithfully. I'll start back up on the posting now that the problems seem to have gone away.

It's a program I got from a personal trainer about a yr prior to my surgery. I just never got into it the way I am now. The original premise is to build both strength and endurance with the same program. You are supposed to do it in 3 wk cycles, I've adjusted it to make it a 6 wk cycle. You start off doing circuits of 7 reps, one day upper body, the next lower. Next time you go in for each, you up the reps to 8. Next time, 9 reps. Continue until you get up to circuits of 12. 9 exercises for upper, 7 for lower. If you want, I will PM you the program. Pretty easy. Best part is, you are not sore most of the time afterwards because you are working with weights you can handle early for the 7 reps and by the time you get to 12 reps, your muscles are used to the weight.

Thanks again jm, I've worked hard to get up there over the past 8 mos. Last night was legs-12 reps. Makes that 40 minutes very looooooooooong. This morning was treadmill work. Ran 3.1 miles in about 32 minutes with the first 2.25 at inclines btwn .5 and 1.5%. Then walked for 28 minutes. All told, 5.1 miles. Gonna keep up that until I am able to run the entire 3.1 at inclines. Want to make sure the next 5k goes better. No lifting tonight. SOFTBALL! Managed last weeks games with only 1 beverage. I think I can accomplish the same tonight. Back to the grind tomorrow. Only 2 more days of lifting for this cycle, then off for a week to recoup.:tongue2::thumbup:
-
That is correct (the weight, not the awesome). I've always been into weightlifting, just now doing lower weights to be able to do more reps and circuit training.
-
Ok, last night was upper body circuits. Didn't "feel" it and my last circuit had quite a bit of cheating to get the last reps up, but that is supposed to happen, so I'm not worrying too much. Here is a recap of what I'm doing this cycle (keep in mind I started with reps of 7 and moved up to this level): Assisted Chin ups: 130 lbs off x 12 Bench: 205 x 12 Hammer Strength Incline: 55 x 12 DB preacher curls: 35 x 12 Skull crushers: 85 x 12 Lat raise: 80 x 12 Roman chair: 65 lb db x 12 BB shrugs: 205 x 12 3 circuits, with minimal rest btwn exercises. Little rest btwn circuits. This morning was back on the elliptical for 65 minutes. Started off at resistance of 9 for 15 minutes. Increased the resistance by 1 every 15 minutes. Working on endurance for my 5k runs. I'm already tired of not finishing w/o walking a little. Tonight is leg circuits. Btw, got an underwear dilema I'm dealing with. My waist size has gone from wearing 2X boxer/briefs to only XL. YAY! However, now my thighs have gotten to the point where the boxer briefs are quite tight and ride up often. But, the 2X are too big in the waist. Oh what a dilema to have. lol

Thanks jm, never would have seriously considered doing one before, let alone 2 down and another 2 next month. Then, start in on mini triathlons later this summer. Next winter, I plan on upping the distances on the treadmill gradually and start off on maybe some 10k's.
-
Whosya, as I've mentioned a couple of times, I am with you here. I am looking at 2 this summer. One in mid July and the other early August. Like you, the swimming is what I think will bother me the most. I know I can do the ride/run thing as I've done it a couple times the past couple of weeks around home. But swimming! Should be interesting. Good luck on yours in a month. Keep us updated on your training and let us know how you do.

Ok, time to recap my weekend: Saturday-had my 2nd 5k run. It was in the town MIL's family is from, so I know it well. But, it is about a 1/2 drive from our house. On the way down, I couldn't figure out why my truck wouldn't stay in a straight line. So, I pull over and sure enough, FLAT TIRE! Now, I had only 55 minutes to change the tire, drive the remaining 20 minutes and get ready to run. Changed tire in 15, sped faster than normal, and made it with plenty of time to spare. Started off the run at 0810, ran first 1.9 miles no problem, had to walk to finish off a hill for about 20 seconds. Ran until I got to about the 3 mile mark and got dry heaves. Walked for about 10 seconds to get over them, and finished off. Was thinking the whole way that I wasn't running nearly as well as 2 wks ago, but took the last turn with 1 block to go and the clock read at 27:55 . Finished officially at 28:23. Shaved nearly 3 1/2 minutes off my time 2 wks ago. Sunday-rode bike 3.75 miles to gym, ran/walked on treadmill for 35 minutes for 3.25 miles at an incline btwn 0 and 2%. Elliptical for 65 minutes. Rode bike 2.3 miles to inlaws for Mothers Day with family. Then, rode bike home 1.9 miles. This morning, I did 65 minutes of cardio on elliptical. Tonight will be upper body. Last week of this 6 wk cycle. YAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!! Happy belated Mothers Day to all the moms on here. Hope you had a good one.

Pretty limited in the number of posters lately. Everyone must be outside . I did my upper body last night as promised. As I am running in a 5k tomorrow, I wanted a full 24 hrs after my leg workout to recoup, so I went in this morning, did my leg workout and 45 minutes on the elliptical. I'll go back in tonight after work for another 45-maybe. Tomorrow, as mentioned, is 5k run number 2. This one is supposed to be more hilly, so I don't know how I will do. Especially, since I will probably be running by myself as my BIL runs faster than I do. Oh well, I just want to hit around the 31:49 as I did a couple weeks ago. Being greedy, I want to beat that time. We'll see.
