Before and After Lap Band Surgery - PICTURES ONLY
Ceradad replied to DeLarla's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
First one is just before the operation at the dr's office. Second one is 10 mos post op. Minus 130 lbs and almost to goal weight. -
Monday-upper body workout Yesterday-leg workout and 65 minutes on elliptical. Then, walked around MN Zoo for about 2 1/2 hrs with DW and DD. Today was 65 minutes on elliptical and softball tonight.

Felicia-thanks for the kind words. I'm over the initial embarassment/beating myself. I look at it as an opportunity to learn and now know what I need to train for for next years tri. I'll make it next year for sure. I also look at it as at least I started it and did not give up after the swim. I finished it out and did ok. This morning was 55 minutes on the elliptical. Tonight is upper body workout.

Yesterday was my mini triathlon. While I failed to finish the 1/4 mile swim (managed about half that distance), I made it through the 14.5 mile ride and 5k run in just under 1 hr 36 minutes. Nowhere near as good as others in the triathlon thread, but I'll take my lessons learned and be back next summer to do better. Afterwards, I had a softball tournament. Ended up playing two games. Today, legs are very sore. Day off. Back at the grind tomorrow.

Chris and Amanda- Thanks for the kind words. I came to grips during my ride yesterday that I had nothing to be ashamed of. I attempted something that none of my friends and coworkers have ever even thought of. In fact, whenever I bring up the subject of joining me, they laugh and say there is no way they could do it. I figure I will just work on the swim over the winter in the pool at the gym and just make sure that 1/4 mile is nothing for me. I just overestimated what I could do in that area. Won't happen again. Congrats on the great time Amanda.

Ok, update time. I took the swimming for granted. Dumb move. I was able to make it halfway to the turnaround point, started taking on water and panicked. Called for the boats. Rested for a little bit and swam back to shore. Just didn't feel comfortable trying to push through it. Figured better safe than sorry. Had to give up my chip since I did not complete the swim, but I decided I was going to finish it out and do the rest. So, I did the 14.5 mile bike ride and 5k run after my failed swim attempt. I crossed the finish line in just over 1 hr 35 minutes including the swim attempt. I felt like a failure for most of the bike ride. I could not believe I was so stupid to think training properly for the swim portion was ok. And, it wasn't. But, I know what to train for for next years event. There aren't any more this year I can make. So, it will be next year. And, I will do it. Had fun though ultimately. Afterwards, I had to run to a one day softball tournament. I missed the first game due to the tri, but made it in time for the 2nd and 3rd games. Went 4-5 btwn the two games hitting for the cycle, including a BOMB my last at bat. I impressed myself with being able to just run to first, but to leg out a triple (legitimate) had the whole team going. Overall, I attempted something that I never thought before this year was possible. I did not complete the whole thing, so I have unfinished business. I'll take care of that next year. Congrats ajoneen.

Thanks kagoscuba for the advice. I do have a computer. I'll do that. I've done that transition on my own and I know what to expect from the legs for about the first 1/4 mile or so. It's nice to get some advice from the tri vets on here.

Coming from a hottie such as yourself, that means alot. Thanks for the well wishes. I think I'm going to have the adreline going all day today just thinking about tomorrow.

Count me in for another month. 55-65 minutes of cardio at least 6 days a week. Lifting 4 nights a week (except for my off week between lifting cycles, should be last week of August). This morning was leg workout. No cardio today as tomorrow is my first ever triathlon.
-
24 hrs from now I will be in the middle of my first triathlon! Can't wait. Last night I laid in bed envisioning the whole thing. Mentally practicing my transitions and figuring how to best go from bike to run w/o much cramping in the calves. I've been told by some friends to start stretching my calves as I get close to finishing my bike ride on the peddles. Seems to make sense. I'll give it a go and see how it works. Not looking to set any time records, just want to finish. Stopped by a dive shop in town yesterday to see if there was somewhere close to rent/buy a tri wetsuit. Guy had some shortie wetsuits on clearance. Bought an XXL wetsuit for under $50. Not the same as a tri wetsuit as it has short sleeves, but it'll do.

55 minutes on elliptical this morning. Softball tonight in the heat.

Holy crap has it been HUMID around here lately. Gym is even humid with the AC on. Very tough upper body workout last night. Managed to make it through, but very tough. This morning was just as humid in the gym for cardio. 55 minutes on elliptical. I'm going to trudge through it for legs tonight again.

I did not have a fill until my 6 month checkup. In that time, I had lost about 80 lbs. Since, I have had only one more fill and do not have great restriction. But, I workout ALOT and the PA I see agrees that I need the calories to burn so that is not a big problem. It is possible to lose weight w/o having a fill. Just need to exercise.

I lost 23 lbs on my pre op 10 day liquid diet. Hit the 100 lbs lost mark at 9 mos and am looking at getting close to my target weight loss of 140 by my bandiversary on Aug. 28 of this year. I work out 6-7 days a week doing cardio, at least 55 minutes. Then, 4 nights a week I go back in for weight lifting. I honestly believe that if I didn't lift weights the way I do, I would have been well below my goal weight by now. Just wanted to make sure I toned the muscle as well.

ajoneen, you and I join the tri ranks this coming Saturday. You getting as excited as I am? I just can't wait until I get this done. Got nerves going as well. I keep imaging what each leg is going to be like. Only drawback is that DW and DD are going out of town this Thursday and won't be around for it. They've been there for all of my firsts on this journey. But, I knew it before I signed up. A friend of mine is doing his first tri this weekend as well. Hopefully, his wife will be there to take some pics of us for posterity purposes.

Oh, I am a HUGE (not so much now in size:lol:) Cowboys fan. I made my first pilgramage down to Texas Stadium last October and got the Star tattoo'ed on my right forearm with "There is only one Star" below. I've loved the 'Boys since I was about 6. Would love to make the trip this year, but not sure I can make it. And next year would be great, but I hear tickets for the new stadium are going to be hard to come by. As for my workouts, chose to skip this weekend. Needed some time off to re energize the batteries. Back at it this morning for 55 minutes on the elliptical. Tonight is upper body. This coming Saturday is my first triathlon. Can't wait! Oh, and I have to agree with daddy on luluc. Definate hottie!

Ok, I can give you that. I hate the Giants, but less so than the Iggles and Deadskins. Sorry to hear about your traditional Thanksgiving not happening this year. I made my first pilgramage, finally, to Texas Stadium last October to see them crush the hated Vi-queens. Had a great time tailgating down there. As for me, yesterday was upper body and cardio. Had a great workout lifting followed up by 65 minutes on the elliptical and 12 minute run and 5 minute cooldown on treadmill. Today, I have a wedding reception tonight, so I had to combine lower body and cardio today. Another very good leg workout followed by 55 minutes on elliptical. I've been dragging arse the last wk/wk and a half. Been really run down. Then, Wednesday night was softball. I had a few barley beverages (ok, about 6 over 4 hrs) nad suddenly felt much better yesterday. Realized I have been cutting out the carbs trying to concentrate on the Proteins lately. The barley sodas gave me the carbs I was needing. Gonna make sure to get more carbs in each day now. Who knew that something good could come from something considered bad?

Do any of you get "crap" from RNY
Ceradad replied to debbieperez55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Agreed Boo Boo, I am almost 11 mos post op and have lost almost 130 lbs. Like you, I am my clinics "star" lb patient. I work out, both cardio and resistance, and have already been asked to have my before and "after" pics posted on the boards around the clinic to show the success you can achieve with lb. You have to work with the band, it doesn't do it all for you. If you put in the work in the exercise dept., you will be successful. -
Today was 55 minutes on elliptical again. No lifting tonight, got softball. As I mentioned yesterday, I did a 5 mile run on the treadmill in the morning. Problem was, I wasn't even thinking. I had legs workout last night. About halfway through the day, I realized my knees were a little sore and wasn't sure how the workout would go. Well, to my relief, it went great. Did everything I needed to do and didn't feel any worse for wear. luluc-I keep forgetting to ask you, I see you live in the DFW area, you a Texan and a Cowboys fan?

Last night, as promised, was upper body workout. Felt weak, but as I was in a hurry because I had to ump, I was going through very quickly. Very little rest btwn cycles. This morning was a nice little 5 mile run on the treadmill in just under 50 minutes. Including cool down, I did 55 minutes. Tonight is lower body.
-
Friday-Lower body workout and 65 minutes on elliptical. Saturday-nothing. Gave myself a day off. Sunday-65 minutes on elliptical and 20 minutes on treadmill. This morning-55 minutes on elliptical. Tonight will be upper body workout.

No cardio this morning. I took a HARD line drive off my right shoulder playing 3B last night in softball. Lots of swelling and bruising. How sad is it that my first thought, once I was able to think clearly, was "how is this going to effect my upper body workout tomorrow night?". This happened in the top of the 1st inning of the first game of two. Finished out both games even though I couldn't lift my right (throwing) arm above shoulder level. Went home and iced it. Took some ibuprofen last night and this morning. I'm at work right now and it is starting to loosen up a bit. I'm going to test it tonight and see what I can do at the gym and get cardio in then as well. Wish me luck.

whosya, you are I should be band twins. We pretty much started out the same and are sitting in the same range. I'm now getting into XL shirts for the first time since hs and in loose 40" shorts. Great NSV's.

Today-60 minutes on the elliptical. No lifting, day off. Softball tonight.
