I haven't noticed that one ljm, I guess I haven't paid too much attention to the ads. I'll have to keep looking at them. Thanks for replying though. It's nice to hear from a mod/admin. on this. Edit: I did a google search on KimKims and I would have to agree. Basically along the same lines as the LWL.com ad. Just seems to go against what we talk about on here.

Bigdaddy, like you, I have always lifted weights. I still do. I spent almost my entire first year post op doing circuit training. I do a 6 wk cycle splitting upper and lower body and doing 2 days each. I do 9 upper body and 7 lower body exercises each time. I start off wk 1 doing 3 circuits and 7 reps each exercise. Wk 2, I increase to 8 reps. I increase 1 rep each wk up to 12 reps per exercise per circuit. I don't go overly heavy, but I do enough that by the time I am doing my 3rd circuit of 12 reps, I am at muscle failure (last cycle, bench was 215 lbs) I just got done doing my first 1 mo. cycle of pure strength training. I was able to bench 315 once (all time high was 375 @ a bw of about 365). Now I weight 245. Failed squatting 405 just this morning. Just couldn't get the initial push up after going down slow and steady. It is possible to continue to lift heavy weights and keep most of your strength. Plus, my bf% has dropped from 32% in April 2007 to around 13.5% now. Pretty good. Good luck.

Hey Leslie, keep up the good work. Two a days are hard, but worth the effort. Last night, went back in and ran 15 min/1.56 miles on treadmill followed by 25 minutes on elliptical. This morning, legs strength training. Tried to max out on squats. Was able to do 375 x 2 reps. Failed on 405 x 1:cursing::wink2::cursing::wub:. Went down slow and easy, started to push up and legs just gave out. DAMMIT!!!!!!!! Oh well, I managed just over 150% of my BW twice. Considering I haven't tried to max out on squats since I weighed about 350 lbs over 4 yrs ago, I'll take it.:tongue2: Followed up that with other leg work followed by 25 minutes on elliptical. I'll go back in tonight for about 40 more minutes of cardio. Have a great weekend everyone. GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!

Thank you, Thank you. I know I am, but it's nice to hear ladies say so also.... I missed Tuesday completely due to DW being out of town, traffic being bad due to weather, having to pick up DD from in laws and home for online class.:crying: Oh well, made up for it on Wed. Wednesday, 90 minutes of cardio. No lifting. This morning, 1 hr of strength training for upper body. Last week of strength training. I'll take next week off from lifting altogether and then go back to my circuit training. Followed the lifting with 20 min/2.06 mile run on treadmill. Back tonight for about 35-45 minutes of cardio again.

Friday night was another 55 minutes of cardio. Yesterday morning-35 minutes of cardio followed by 18 holes of golf. Today-Upper body strength training followed by 20 min/2.1 mile run on treadmill.

Atta girl! Got to have priorities.

Better than nothing, but I'm sure not that satisfying for you. Keep your chin up, it'll get better. You gonna be able to watch the 'Boys Sunday night? If not, that would truly be a tragedy.

Last night, back in for cardio. 35 min/3.63 mile run on treadmill. This morning, lower body workout followed by 25 minutes on elliptical. Back in tonight for another 45-65 minutes of cardio.

luluc-I'm more of an Iowa Hawkeye man myself, but as I hate the Cyclones, I can cheer for the Longhorns as well. Sorry to hear about your Water problems. Maybe they just figured you wanted a bigger pool to swim in. As for me, I did upper body strenth training this morning and a quick 10 minute/1.06 mile run. More cardio after work.

Last night, another 35 minutes on elliptical. This morning, 30 minutes on elliptical followed by 45 minute spin class. My first spin class.:frown: Not too bad, but my tri's were feeling it at the end. I'll give it a go again. I'm a sucker that way.

Last year when I went down for the Vikings game there, I was a little disappointed in some of the crowd. They didn't seem to understand when to be loud and when to be quiet. Most of the people around me seemed ok, but still not overly loud. Last night, at least on TV, seemed like you guys were right on the whole game. Especially at the end for the Shegals last 2 drives. From the fans not in attendance, Thank You. Gotcha on the Shiner. Next time I get down there, I'll have to give it a go. As for the food, you gotta live a little also, just work it off. I really loved the tailgating down there, great people sharing everything. Had a Hispanic family parked directly across from us that had a HUGE setup complete with the Texas Longhorns tent/cover. They offered us everything they had foodwise and asked for nothing in return. Gotta love those Texans! And great nsv! I love that feeling of sitting w/o going into DW's seat anymore. One for me, this past Saturday we had a SWAT team get together at one of the Lt's house. As it was rainy and chilly, DW decided she would grab my new black Champion sweatshirt with our emblem and SWAT embroidered on it. I had to fight her to get it back because she loved it because it is only an XL and she doesn't "swim" in it like before.

There you go again, rubbing it in. Damn!!!! What a game!!!! I am even more jealous than I was yesterday. Crowd looked amazing the way you guys were cheering the whole game. Of course, with all the fireworks going with both offenses, you never got the chance to sit still. And, serves you right for bragging to have a bad workout. Now, bring on Green Bay!

Gloucester, good to hear you survived Ike. Hope your recovery goes smoothly. As for me, as promised, I made it back in last night for 15 minute run on the treadmill followed by 25 minutes on elliptical. This morning consisted of 30 minutes of leg work followed by 25 minutes on elliptical. I'm going back in tonight for more cardio.

Must be something Texan. But, sounds like a good idea. GO COWBOYS!!!!

Keep rubbing it in luluc:biggrin:. You can't imagine how jealous I am right now. I'm still trying to figure out a way, any way, I can make it down for a game this year. Just don't think it is in the cards. Have a beer and a brat for me, ok?

pros and cons of exercise
Ceradad replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in Fitness & Exercise
As always, I couldn't agree more with luluc. I started walking immediately after my surgery. Two weeks out, I started lifting light weights per dr's instructions/permission and increased the amount of weight gradually. I've consistently done 6-7 days a week of cardio and 4 days a week of lifting for almost 13 mos now. I'm almost to goal (5 lbs away:thumbup:). I now have people tell me I am leaning out more than ever before. When I lift, I go at it HARD. I've gone from size 48" waist pants to almost a 36". Shirt size went from a tight 3XL to XL's hanging off me (except through the chest and shoulders:biggrin:). There is no excuse for not incorporating exercise into your lapband plan. Listen to all the people in here and you will succeed. Especially Jachut and luluc for women. They really know what they are talking about. -
Update time: Last Thursday: Upper body strength training and 15 minute run on treadmill in AM. PM, another 35 minutes on treadmill. Work was SWAT training all day. Sunday: off:thumbup: Monday AM: Upper body strength training and 15 minute run on treadmill. PM will be about another 45 minutes on treadmill/elliptical. Ebony, welcome aboard. Sounds like you have a great attitude going into your journey. luluc, can't wait to watch the 'Boys whip up on the Egals tonight (hopefully).

I read somewhere a while ago that the better shape you are in cardio-wise, the more you tend to sweat. I know for me, by the time I get done with an hour of cardio, my shirt, shorts and socks feel like I've been in a pool rather than running.

Monday night: 35 minute/3.6 mile run on treadmill Tuesday morning: leg workout 50 minutes on elliptical 15 min./1.6 mile run on treadmill This morning: 55 minutes on elliptical

weight loss pre op on liquid diet
Ceradad replied to chicamam1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 23 lbs on my 10 day pre op liquid diet. If I had had any energy, I would have been trying some exercise to increase that amount. Word of warning though, depending on how long you liquid diet is, be careful. By day 5 I was getting pretty dizzy. By day 8 or 9, it wasn't too bad. But those were some bad days. -
Gloucester, no need to be intimidated, this is just a way of keeping accountable to others. I've found that by posting what I am doing and seeing what others are doing, it's like they are there giving me encouragement. That's all these "challenge" threads are meant for, to encourage each other. And, don't worry, none of us started off where we are today. We've just been able to work up to it. The important thing to remember is to find something, anything, that you can do with the least amount of loathing (let's be honest here, if any of us actually liked exercise we wouldn't have been where we were:biggrin:). That way you don't dread going to the gym or doing the cardio. Looks like the c25k is what is working for you for now. GREAT JOB and keep it up. I myself have found myself lately going more for running on the treadmill as opposed to the elliptical that I've been doing for most of the past 6 mos. Just keep posting on these and we'll keep on encouraging you.

This morning was 50 minutes of full on strength training followed by 15 minute/1.55 mile run on treadmill. Tonight I'll go back for more cardio, about 40-45 minutes worth.

Oh YEAH!!!!! I like to treat opening day for football as a national holiday. Unfortunately, I am working today. I won't get home until about halftime of the Cowboys game.

Well, this seems to have died off. Oh well, I'm still going to be posting here for myself. After a very bad week involving SWAT duties for the RNC (no head knocking from me though), I will be getting back at it. Yesterday morning I ran my 7th 5k of the year and followed that with a 1 mile kids fun run with DD. Then, round of golf in the afternoon. I'm taking Sundays off for awhile to give myself one scheduled day off. I figure after going 6-7 days a week (mostly 7 days a week) for one year, 1 day off every week isn't going to do much harm. Tomorrow, back at it like normal.
