The deep breath and shoulder thing will go in time, and the spasms are probably due to your stomach being not happy right now after surgery. I too have a low pulse rate, if I go to anyone other than my regular doc I usually get the raised eye brow look. But always check with your doc if you are concerned, no sense stressing when you can make a phone call.

Help! I'm being sleeved on 8/30 and need to ask questions.
Waler replied to themaestroswife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
well I have never had a lap ban, this is something you really need to be sure you want to do. Ask your self if you would be willing to live with the worst case scenario. Lets say you do have the issues you talked about. would you still be willing to work around those issues in order to reach your health goals? I think that is the bigger question. -
Exercise suggestions with bad knees
Waler replied to hmills653's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As a person with bad knees as well I understand where you are at. Treadmills can be your friend, as they tend to absorb more shock from walking making it easier on your knees. Also ice is your friend when it comes to knee pain after a visit to the gym. Take your time and work your way back into it, your knees will feel better as you take more weight off and use them more. -
Day 5 No sipping, regular drinks?!???
Waler replied to Bambam626's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As far as stretching your stomach, unlikely. More than likely the inflammation from your surgery is going away, but I would be carful how much I intake at once for now. You still need to finish healing and that can take time. Too much at once while healing could cause other problems. Just keep taking it nice and easy for a while, and contact your doc if you are really concerned, no need to panic yourself when medical answers are just a phone call away. You are new to this so there is no such thing as a dumb question and that is what your medical team is there for. -
Convincing partner to have WLS
Waler replied to Leaky Ears's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
this is something you really should not try to talk someone into. They must be ready to take this journey for themselves. You have to want this for you and be committed to change your lifestyle and choices. -
Is this really true???
Waler replied to Dimples58's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
has more to do with dietary changes than the actual surgery itself. High protein diets tend to smell worse, just goes with the territory. -
use a small spoon and make sure you actually set it down on the table between bites.

I have seen questions asked before about macros, and it can actually get a bit confusing, so I sat down with my nut who also has a degree in physical training. For those who are interests this is what she came up with, it is a pretty simple break down 55-60% Protein 35-40% carbs 10% fats this applies to what ever your caloric intake needs might be. just food for thought

about the second time you start throwing that stuff in the trash they will get the hint.

Biggest post op regret and best advice during honeymoon period
Waler replied to JerseySleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would have to say that after almost two years out the only regret I have is that I did not do it sooner. As for advice, always try to stay focused on the fact that you are only going to get out of this weight loss tool what you put into it. If you strive for excellent results you have to do the hard work. That includes exercise and keeping your new dietary lifestyle on track. Will you have slip ups? sure everyone does, but what makes people successful is getting back on track and taking responsibility for the bumps you put in the road. I`ll get of my soap box now -

Well if you know your behavior is wrong why do you continue with it? It`s like beating your head off a wall, when you stop doing it your headache goes away. -
Yes I think it happens to most if not all of us at one time or another. We do not feel any different, and we see ourselves so much that we do not notice the change, but people who do not see us on a regular basis notice right away. It is a bit strange to get use too but we are always the last to notice changes in ourselves.

Try to keep in mind it is the way you were doing things before that was making you unhealthy and overweight. So do not morn for the things that were unhealthy, instead try to welcome the change as a learning experience and a new way to do things the right way. After all it is not everyday we get to have a second chance to try to get things right.

What you basically want to do is scale it to your caloric intake, that is why they are in percentage of daily intake.

Was 6 weeks for me as well. I am a year and a half out and I consulted with my doc about pre-workout and was given the okay. Keep in mind everyone is different so I would talk to your doc about it.

Thank you!

This journey is like many other in that you get out what you put into it. I am almost 2 years out and I lost over 150 pounds. Some may disagree with me but if you sit on the couch and only do the minimum work that needs to be done you get the minimum results. If you want to lose more than average you have to do things better than average. This is your journey make the best of it you possibly can.

What Do You Mean VSG Won't Solve All My Problems???
Waler replied to 2-Liter's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Don`t be so quick to dismiss your anxiety issues. Some people take medication on a daily basis to combat anxiety/depression. This is not something losing weight and being more social can cure. In some cases it is due to how your body and brain chemistry work. Since you have had some panic attacks already the medication may not be a bad idea. -
Well you are still early in the process. Sometimes it can be difficult to separate true hunger from head hungry. It might be worth your while to discuss this with your doctor.

Everyone heals different, if you really have concerns talk to your doctor, it took me 3 weeks before I felt somewhat normal.

I guess the easiest way to describe it is to look at excess body fat as stored energy. Your body stores fat so it has the energy it needs when your body runs low. This fat is chemically changes to a form your body can use when needed. When you are taking in less fuel (Food/calories) your body switches over to burning fat for fuel. So since our diet changes after surgery our bodies do not get the amount of fuel it is use to having so it goes into the fat stores to make up the difference. Burn the fats stores and you lose fat, which equals losing weight.

They can actually (and some do) do a lab test to check the amount of nicotine in your system. Obviously if you have a smoker in the house it will be positive but not at the level it would be if you were smoking.

Kidney stones after weight loss surgery
Waler replied to deb2571's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
a few years back I was having a problem with stones. The urologist suggested I get plenty of Water in my diet and a good amount of Vitamin C.He stated that ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) would help to cut down on the stone formation. It seems to have worked for me as I have not had another since. Talk to your doc and get his take on it
