Doing PROTEIN SHAKES FOR A MONTH!
Waler replied to dreamingsmall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is where the debates start. I am two year out and I still do protein shakes, one for breakfast and one after I leave the gym. The problem with veggie only diets is you need to pay close attention to your protein intake, this is because most veggies are incomplete proteins. Now I know all the vegetarians out there are going to get on their soap box and tell me how wrong I am. Please try to keep in mind I am a medical lab professional so I know just a bit about the topic. Protein is something your body does not have the ability to store, and if you do not get enough your body will go catabolic and break down muscle tissue, not a place you want to go. -
As long as you are being carful not to fall back into old eating habits and your staying on track, don`t over think it. If you are still headed in the right direction what ever you are doing is working for you. The trick comes when you get closer to your goal, that is where you really need to ratchet things up a bit. Make good habits now and it will pay off later.

My surgery was on 9/4/2017
Waler replied to Pinkaranda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All gets better in time. Of course your still feeling nauseous you just went through a major surgery, now you need some time to heal. As for crushing your pills, I would say it is probably a real good idea. Also do not hesitate to call your medical team if you have questions, that is what they are there for. -
Packet that comes in some protein powders for moisture
Waler replied to Mares00's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
normally the moisture absorbing packet is a non-reactive (inert) substance when it is used in food type products, so I would not worry about it being toxic, but it could certainly make you sick. Always best to contact someone in your area just to be on the safe side though. -
After being married to the same wonderful, patient woman for almost thirty years now I can tell you there are always going to be emotional ups and down. Yes there were times when we thought about calling it quits, but we are both glad we worked it out instead. Keep in mind there are people out there who spend most of there life searching for there someone special, and some never find it. So enjoy the relationship you have and never take it for granted. The person you are with found the good in you, when you felt no one else could or would, that should count for something don`t ya think

How do I get enough protein
Waler replied to Arthur Dent's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still do two shakes a day, one for breakfast, and one after the gym, and I am 2 years out -
And lets not forget coffee/caffeine is a diuretic. In the early stages when water is hard to get in this can lead to dehydration. I was cleared to enjoy my morning chemical jump start after my 6 month follow up.

Sounds like you are experiencing head hunger. Yes it is a real thing, Your brain is saying hey I did not get enough and your stomach is saying I`m full shut up.

If you have reached goal and kept the weight off....
Waler replied to Katie Loesch-Meyer's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
As for me I only use splenda in my coffee and crystal light is a wonderful thing. I would stay away from the carbonated diet sodas, nothing good at all in those -
I have had little to no support myself so I sat down and thought about it. I asked myself who am I doing this for, my spouse or me. that is when I figured out it has to be for you. You can not make others happy, that is something they have to find on there own. This is an opportunity to make yourself happy and healthier. Do it for you first if others fall in line after even better.

you should be a bit nervous and excited. You are about to go through something that will change your life, but the change will be for the better. Stay focused on your goals, everyone gets nervous.

Do you think it's too early to eat pasta, bread, etc?
Waler replied to Savannah.Silva's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums

QUESTION FOR MY FELLOW DS FAMILY (MYFITNESSPAL)
Waler replied to Lexington1020's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I track both calories and macros. My trainer at the gym has me on a 60% protein, 30% carb, 10% fat split. staying at 1000 calories, works great for me. -
Is my body done and happy?
Waler replied to sjandj715's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The bigger question is are you happy? You can keep losing and you will if you stick with the program. -
premier protein water, tropical punch - anyone tried?
Waler replied to Miss Topaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I must be an exception to the rule as well, I like the isopure vanilla cream. That is my go to breakfast -
Welcome to the loser bench

I am an isopure kind of guy but everyone seems to like something different. INDAVIDUALS....go figure

At first I did a lot of weight and measure, just a simple kitchen scale and a measuring cup. Once I got use to seeing what these portions looked like, I just eye ball them now.

call me mean if you like but if you want someone to tell you its okay, sorry up front. This is the time you need to reflect and learn from past bad habits, and if you can not do that then perhaps you have not made the right decision for your future. Can you get away with it this time without negative consequences, sure, but at what point will you become accountable for what you do and stop doing it? That is the question you really have to ask yourself. The pre-phase is not just to shrink your liver it is also to get you to change your bad habits and get you to take charge of your health. I am sorry to be blunt but if you are seriously going to do this and do it right the time for excuses and regret are over. If you do this after surgery you can seriously impact your health and possibly even endanger your life, that is a very real fact. If you are not going to become 100% committed to this life change do not endanger yourself. If this is what you want you have to take charge and change your whole lifestyle, if you are not ready to make that step, then maybe you are not truly ready for this.

Waler replied to shalove's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can always try adding to it. I add Greek yogurt and PB fit to my morning protein breakfast shake, both add extra protein -
well thats personally what I use but I have found the banana cream one is the best to me anyway. I add a little PB fit and some Greek yogurt and it makes a great breakfast

Weight loss is not the same for everyone, it is as individual as we are. The best thing you can do is follow your providers plan and don`t stress about the weight. it will come off when it comes off
-
As for some of the weight ups and downs, try keeping track of your sodium intake. That can make you bounce up and down in weight if your sodium intake is high

What are you all eating on the pureed phase
Waler replied to northstar9148's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don`t really have any recipes, but I ate things like creamed soups, sugar free, fat free pudding, yogurt, and jello
