I have never had the band done but I defiantly do not regret having the sleeve done.

Well I can only really speak from my experience, as far as diet restrictions the only thing on your list I have not tried is bread. Everything else I can eat no problem, just less of it than before. I don`t get sick and only did once off nasty tasting medication when I was in the hospital and I sleep on my side no problems at all. As far as drinking, I just haven wanted to, way too many empty calories. The only advice I can give you is do not base your weight or rather to have surgery or not on your marriage. Your spouse should love you for who you are on the inside. Sure in the real world much is based on outward physical appearance, but it is no reason to walk out on a marriage. At the expense of sounding mean, I would chance to guess he is not a perfect human specimen, so why should he expect it from anyone else. Unless he is ready to start his carrier as a male underwear model or something he needs to get over himself. Tell peter pan never land does not exist, and our bodies change as we get older. This is something you have do for yourself! not the whims of a grown up adolesent

Decide not to have surgery?
Waler replied to MarciaN's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have had no problems at all since surgery, and if I had the chance to do it over, I would. If you feel that it is not right for you then maybe it is not. If you can do it on your own hats off to you, I know I could not, I tried many times. I wish you best of luck no matter what you decide -
I hear a lot of people talking about Protein bars. I have looked at a lot of them and found the fat and sugar content of them to be a bit scary to say the least. Are there any Protein Bars out there that are actually good and good for us slevers?
-
I guess I have not really looked into them because all of the ones I looked at seem loaded with fat and sugar. or am I just being obsessive?

Well I got to ditch my diabetes meds, blood pressure meds, and cholesterol meds. The only medications I take now are the ones I got post op for ulcers and gallstones and that is it. What a wonderful thing to be health and free of all those medications.

Well at the expense of sounding condescending, (I am in health care as well) You should already understand that due to the nature of your surgery, you now are able to absorb less from what you are now in taking for food. That being said when you body is trying to heal and maintain muscle your body needs the extra Protein. If you choose to eat whatever you like that is up to you, but you basically have wasted yours and your surgeons time. If you choose to go down the road still of high calorie, fat, and sugar junk that is up to you ultimately, but it will come at the cost of your weight loss be less than successful. Part of this process is to get you to understand that you were not doing things the right way in the past, that I you got to the surgery option. This is not a quick fix, for VGS surgery to work and maintain weight loss it requires you to make a life style change. If that is not something you were willing to do, why did you have the surgery to begin with? most of the people in here will tell you they had a problem with their diets, in one form or another, being it binge eaters, stress eaters, or people who just made bad choices. The point is you got overweight and you viewed this as a solution, and not the tool that it is. This is just a tool to help you, how you choose to use that tool is now up to you. just ask yourself how successful you want to be.

Best Buys! Need help getting ready!
Waler replied to Nikki Monroe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the banana isopure, I buy it from amazon. I found that they seem to have the best price on it. I found most of the ready to drink ones have some carb and sugars where the Isopure does not. I think it is a better choice, and it tastes good too, big plus! -
I can speak for using a C-pap. After about a month I ditched mine, I do not snore anymore and I sleep great. I think mostly due to the freedom of not having to deal with that anymore.

Hang in there it gets better and it does not take long. I remember asking myself "what have I done", when I was in the hospital. After a couple of weeks that changed to "that was not that bad", and now it has changed to "I would not change a thing, and I would recommend it to anyone who is tired of struggling with a weight issue."

I got a bunch of small storage container just because it makes things easier. I do most of the cooking in my house so I find it easy to put left overs in the small containers so I have things ready to go for lunches or a quick micro dinner,

Enjoy your Birthday. I hate to be the gloomy one here but your surgery is all about taking back control of your life. If your friends can not be supportive now, will they be supportive later when it comes to going out to dinner and such?

Congratz, enjoy the journey to your new life

Does it ever get better?
Waler replied to Champ715's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be patient it does get a lot better and it changes quickly. Try to focus on your Water and Protein intake, that is the most important thing you can do right now. Later take time to enjoy the little victories. -
Centrum chewable vitamins, that is what I was sent home with after my surgery.
-
I am 50 now but I have had diagnosed sleep apnea for about ten years. 80 pounds later I ditched the machine, and have slept just as well if not better due to freedom
-
I was not given any special diet instructions either. So to play it safe the day before I stuck with Soup and stuff that was easy to digest
-
My Protein shake, Water, and crystal light. that seems pretty common. occasionally a nice herbal tea

My highest weight was 345, and I got tired of going out to look for cloths and having to deal with the crappy selection in the big and tall sections. I also got tired of waking up with my knees and back bothering me and that CPAP machine I had to used every night. I tried several time to lose weight and I figured it was time to break out the big weight loss tool in the tool box.

Hey Michelle I was a hard core soda drinker as well, but I just got in my head that it was just another thing that was keeping me from getting healthier. About a month before my surgery I dumped soda and caffeine and I have not looked back. I find now that I do not even miss it. Crystal light half ice tea ad half lemonade is my new got to have drink of choice. You can do it just try to find a healthier alternative that works for you.

Hey all, I am new to this so I will give you the quick version. Started my journey at 345 and got down to 325 for surgery which I had on August 5th 2015. As of this morning I am down to 263 and no regrets at all. I have been reading all the great stories in here, that have inspired me and encouraged me to join this site. It`s been an amazing journey so far and I can not wait to reach my goal.
