I look small for my weight...
beckibut replied to Kgmz0219's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also " carry it well" at 254 right now and 5'8". Most people are shocked that my BMI is 40. I work in the OR as a surgical technologist, so I have been VERY open about it at work. We always discuss BMI as an indicator of how well a patient will do during surgery and during the recovery phase. There is no fooling surgical staff so I want them to be aware should I encounter any problems. I work in big Orthopaedic cases and lifting is a must. I am taking 6 weeks off from work because of all the heavy lifting I have to do with surgical instrument trays. I have had very few negative comments about it and I really appreciate the support! It will be interesting post op for sure! I'm gonna need to buy new scrubs! -

beckibut replied to songsmith's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery date is Feb 17th! I'm not looking forward to the 2 weeks pre-op liquid diet while working! On 2 of those days I have to drink 6 oz of magnesium citrate too! I'm taking those 2 days off from work! Getting excited over here! -
There may be more than meets the eye going on here. Talk to your husband about it.

For the physically active sleevers...
beckibut replied to HopeandAgony's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks all. I'm actually excited to think that I will get my active lifestyle back after surgery. I'm just a bit nervous about recovering in between workouts. As it is, it takes me much longer to recover than it used to. I love lifting, but now know that lifting heavy like I used to may not be the best approach, initially. I'll have to work up to it I guess. I do love to swim and may do laps on my days off from work. Thanks again everyone! -
Cocoa Beach here! I'm waiting for approval by insurance so we can schedule in January. Dr. Teiu is my Dr. As well! Spell check on his name though. I always mess it up!

For the physically active sleevers...
beckibut replied to HopeandAgony's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't had my surgery yet. I was a gym rat for most of my life, also a fire fighter and lived for training. Now that I have all this extra weight, everything hurts! I am especially aware of that now that I cannot take NSAIDs. I work long hours and struggle to get in the gym on my 12+ hour work days. I know that I need to revamp my schedule to get going but the joint pain is a real downer. I am hoping that with weight loss my joints won't hurt so bad and that will be motivation to get in there on a regular basis. I miss it. It hurts now and I feel lame not being able to power through like I should. Ugh.... Please tell me, did your joint pain lessen post op? How did it feel physically to get back in there post op? -
Update and Picturessss! :D

You are adorable! -
I work in the OR as a Surgical technologist that specializes in Orthopaedics and I'm taking 4 weeks off. I just can't see anyone being able to do that job after only 1 or 2 weeks post op. It's very physical with lifting heavy instrument trays and standing for long periods of time without access to fluids while scrubbed in. I wonder how I'll stay hydrated when I DO return to work.

Beautiful! You look great! Love your dress too!

Pain after eating any thing

I agree with bellabloom, it could be a structure. An EGD would reveal it. -
How long did it take to remember to sip instead of drinking normally?
beckibut replied to tcrehm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wondered about this. I know we shouldn't get dehydrated post op and my Dr. said that you cannot physically catch up if you do. I work in surgery and am often scrubbed into procedures that last for many hours. I worry that I won't be able to sip often enough to stay hydrated. I tend to gulp down big glasses of water in between my cases now! -
I am in the early stages of preparing for surgery and I was wondering about this. I'll be ok going down in cup size, I am afraid of the hang though. Lol. Not that they don't hang now!
