Hi everyone, I have a full day scheduled tomorrow at the Beaumont Weight Control Center in SCS Michigan! I see the Weight Control physician, the NUT, the Exercise Physiologist, and the Phycologist. This is my first of 6 month appointments, putting me at my surgery date in late February, early March! I'm so very excited to learn all I can about this awesome second chance at life I am getting. A small part of me wishes I didn't have to go thru the 6 month insurance required treatment but the biggest part of me is so happy and excited to learn how to live with the sleeve and all the new journeys that await me. I'd LOVE a buddy who is on the same timeline as I am or anyone that would share their journey. Wish me luck!

All went great today! They even got the cardiac clearance from my cardiologist (I have Hypertrophic Cardio Myopathy). I am overwhelmed with all nutritional info they gave me. It will be a busy weekend for me reading up on everything. 1 month visit down, 5 more months to go! I'm so excited for this journey!

@@hollybower, my Bariatric Doc told me not to diet or lose weight until after I see the Nut and that's tomorrow (10/21). I actually gained a few pounds of water weight because it's that time of the month for me and I also have not been able to take my lasix water control medication in the past 4 days due to my work schedule so I hope a gain doesn't count against me. I'll keep you posted.

Hi did this policy change in any other states? I gave BCBS of Michigan and was told 2 months ago that I have to complete the 6 month medical check before surgery. I'm in the process now, 4 more months to go!

Hi everyone, I'm new and had my first "consult" with the Bariatric Doctor (not surgeon) back on September 14th. I was weighed in, filled out paperwork, she took my meds down on a list and sent me for an extensive blood work up. She then referred me for a Bone/Body scan which I did and I'm scheduled to meet the sleep apnea doc for an consult on 11/11. I am scheduled to meet the Nut, Exercise specialist and Dietician all on the same day (10/22). I see the Bariatric Doc again that day too. My question is - what BMI counts, and is sent to insurance in 6 month? The first on e on 9/14 or the next one on 10/22 when I meet all the new team and actually start me journey? The doc said even tho I met her on 9/14, technically my 6 month visits for ins purposes starts at the 10/22 appt. just curious cuz they told me not to start any diet until I see the NUT so I'm wondering should I eat hearty until 10/22 so I have. Higher BMI and increase my chance to be approved buy insurance? I have BCBS of Michigan and my BMI is 36. Thank you all in advance for your insight.

Hi Vleigh, I'm just starting out too. My first appointment was in September- to meet the Bariatric doctor (not surgeon), had all my blood tests and scheduled my Nut, Exercise Physiologist and the Phycologist all for October 21st. From then I will schedule my monthly appts to get me to March 2016 (6months). I went last night for my scheduled Body Scan and Bone Density test and I meet the sleep Therapist on November 11th to determine if I need to take a sleep apnea test. I have been researching and reading all the posts/forums on this site and the information I have gathered thus far is AMAZING! Everyone here is so supportive and although each person has a separate, and unique journey, their results are all similarity amazing. I'm from Michigan and have my surgery at Royal Oak Beaumont, although the my monthly appts are at Saint Clair Shores Beaumont because it is closer to my house/work (downtown Detroit for work). I'm in Law Enforcement and was referred to Doc Krause by a fellow worker. I too have concerns over insurance but I am remaining confident that they will cover me. I am wondering however, if the doctor is going to use my starting BMI from September when we met or the next one in October when it's considered my first "official" appt. Any outlook on this would be greatly appreciated. Would love to keep in touch during our journey since we have a similar timeline.

Hi- I'm just starting the process and have a 6 month requirement for insurance purposes. As excited and anxious as I am, I'm glad to be able to meet with the exercise physiologist and nutritionist so I am able to learn how to eat and be healthy for the New Me. My birthday is in March (will be 44) so I'm giving myself the ultimate present- my life back. Good luck to you. Anyone out there looking at a March 2016 date?
