What Kind of Music Do You Love? I'm a R&B Hip Hop gal myself
niche replied to BeacheeGirl's topic in The Lounge
hip hop is definitely my first love. i'm more of a east coast girl: a tribe called quest, mobb deep, mos def, gang starr, epmd, nas, the roots etc. now i'm listening to much more indie rock like broken social scene, clap your hands say yeah, jenny lewis, augie march, citizen cope. but i guess i'm more interested in music that sounds 'weird'. anything that's not too straight forward. but i'm really sad to see what has happened to hip hop, there's just not enough diversity on the radio. everyone's trying to be so hard, it sounds fake to me. -
oh yeah! that was my first pb. but now i can do chicken as long as it's dark meat. i never touch the white stuff

i started a slow walk on the treadmill after 2 weeks. but i mean slow. today: - waked 20 mins 4mph, 5.5% - ran 10 mins 5 mph 5.5% - 300 crunches, situps etc - 150 arm exercises 7 lbs and 10 lbs - 350 leg lifts then i bought a bike! it was so much fun. i went over to target with a friend and we both bought bikes and rode around the neighborhood. i can't believe how much more tiring bike riding is than when i was eight!

i can. but it took me a couple of months after my last fill to be able to do it comfortably.

telly, that trainer sounds great! i'll be very interested to see what effect the resistance training and weights has for you. i'm always looking for new resistance exercises, so if you come across any good freeweight ones, please share!

hi everyone! i am back from my doctor's appointment where i learned that i am officially down 40 lbs! yay! i'm half way there! this is really encouraging me to get in that exercise daily. monday: i did overcome my morning oversleeping and commit to a night workout. i did 5 miles on the treadmill @ 4mph, 5% grade. but i didn't get in any resistance training tuesday: in the morning i did 20 mins on the treadmill 10 at 4mph 5%, 10 at 5pmh 5% grade (my first run in a few years), then 150 arm exercises, 300 crunches and pilates things, 300 leg lifts. then at night i walked another hour at 3.5 mph 5%. i think this was helped by the high of knowing that i'd lost 8 lbs in the last month. wednesday (today): 30 mins 4pmh, 5% grade. 150 arm exercises, 300 stomach, 300 leg lifts. i'm trying to get more resistance in there.

a friend of mine has tremendous hair loss from years of eating disorders. her scalp shows through etc. the one product that she found to camouflage it is this hair powder by bumble and bumble. it says that it is for subtle color change and drying oily hair but she uses it to thicken her hair and cover the whiteness of her scalp so that the thinness is less noticeable. you might check it out. and it comes in a few different shades. http://www.bizrate.com/oid426724262.html

doc - sounds like you're really increasing and comitting to darn near every day. way to go! telly - you're an animal! i mean 3 hours of cardio?! you go girl exercise yesterday for day #4 of last week: - 100 mins of treadmill 3.6mph, 4% grade (watching alias, jarhead) no excercise today yet. i overslept. but i will do a workout after work! i was going to say 'i'm going to try to do a workout...' but then i realized that i have to commit to it and do it!

lucky changs sounds like a plan. i've never been but singing drag queens is always a good idea! and of course very memorable today, no exercise. i am aiming for 4 days this week and i will get #4 in on saturday or sunday. everyone have a great weekend!

if that's your fear, just try to be very portion controlled. almost like pre-band dieting. i have a guy in my support group who has the same fear. it has been 2 yrs and he hasn't added anything beyond cottage cheese and hummus to his diet b/c he doesn't 'believe' the surgery will work. now he's malnourished. it doesn't sound like you're at this point, but don't not eat. there's another thread going today about being too tight http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=19379 in an effort to lose faster. self-destructive behavoiurs will only harm in the long term. bad nutrition. losing muscle, lower metabolism... start reading around the site. there are struggles with the band but you'll prob find that you'll feel fuller and more satisfied if you eat solid food b/c that's what the band is designed to limit. best of luck to you!

for sure! i will be there to party it up with you in august. i know exactly where you used to live. i'm in fort greene. down the hill a bit closer to the city. we have a little park over there but nothing as big as prospect park. luckily my apt is cheaper than that! 1 br is enough for me right now. you're so single minded about getting to goal! when i think about it, i 'wonder' when i'm going to get to goal. you 'tell'!

i live in brooklyn and i want to have babies here! and i want to win the lottery! but drop me a line if you'd like to have a bandster meetup while you're in ny.

i'm also jealous of you poolside/oceanside ladies. i am in nature-scarce new york. but i can't leave. i love this place! i mean, what if something happens without me?! lol. but i got back on the bandwagon this morning: - 30 mins 4.1mph, 6.5% grade - 180 arm exercises - 300 situps, crunches, etc. i had a conversation recently with a personal trainer about how to really get results and he said that i could cut way back on my cardio and up my resistance. i usually do 45min cardio/15 min resistance. and he said i could go to 20 min cardio/40 min resistance. i am scared to cut back so frastically on cardio i always thought of it as pure fat burning time. he said that women always think cardio is the way but that creating muscle is a longer-term way to burn calories even when you're not exercising and to up your metabolism. i guess if you had unlimited time to exercise, you could do 40 mins of cardio and 40 mins of resistance. but 1 hour a day is pretty much what i can commit to. have you guys heard anything like this? or is anyone on a regimen like this?

doc - that sounds amazing! i didn't exercise this morning. i was out until 2am at a bday party and it didn't happen for me this morning. but tomorrow, i'm back on the wagon. how's everyone else doing today?
-
i'm good! thanks for asking. i increased my intensity a bit today: - 30 mins, 4.1mph, 5.5% grade and 15 mins 4.1 mph 6.5% grade. that last part really made me sweat. i had on my rambo headband. forward, ho! lol - then 90 arm curls, strongman, raises - 60 chest press, tricept i meant to do some crunches but i woke up late and the arms are a bigger priority for me right now. maybe i'll try to hit the floor for some crunches after lunch today. i have a very laid back office. me laying on the floor sweating would be less than shocking around here.

you're doing well! i seriously doubt that you're stretching your pouch unless you're doing something else that you don't mention here. but it took me a good while to get any decent restriction. so be patient. i know the feeling of 'i just got weight loss surgery, why isn't anything happening?!@$!' but sometimes it just takes time.
-
that started happening when i got a tight fill. it is reflux and it happens when your pouch isn't totally evacuated before laying down. my doc recommended eating at least 2 hours before laying down and drinking a glass of water or cup of tea an hour before bed to wash out the pouch. it has worked for me and it no longer happens.
-
thanks for the encouragement ladies! i really appreciate it and i love this forum. it definitely helps me get out of the bed and at least do something when i have no energy. and i love getting new fitness ideas from you guys. and of course sharing those little victories. thanks for the support!

congratulations!!

good news guys! i think the cleanse did make my thighs smaller! i'm now wearing the smallest pants i own. size 31 joe's jeans!!! ok, there's a bit of a muffin top. but hell who can really wear a 6" rise. but it is being hidden by my baby doll tank top so i don't look like i'm going to the jerry springer audition. i haven't been on a scale for 3 weeks, but i definitely feel like i've lost at least 5 lbs. i don't know why i'm so afraid of the scale but i never want to weigh. i go to the doc's next tuesday so i'll prob wait till then. also, i'm back to the real exercise bunny workout again. today: - 45 mins 4.1 mph, 5% grade - arm exercises to 120 curls, strong man, raises, butterflies w/ 7 lbs - plus new 60 tricept, chest press w/ 10 lb wts. i'm determined to get into this backless dress by july with no back fat!!
