I would have sweared on a stack of Bibles that I ate well, and not too terribly much. Now i DID eat mostly good foods but man oh man was I WAY off on the quantity. I am in the pre band stages of planning etc and am really trying to be strict with my eating and exercising. I am logging food at sparkpeople. I truthfully had NO IDEA how many thousands of calories I was overeating. I know IN MY HEAD that a portion of lets say chicken should look like about the size of a deck of cards....but I always justified that second piece... I see the graph of calories on spark and see the days that I am not so strict...BOOM up go the calories. This is where the band will help me. I will not be able to shovel the (even good) food in..... I love and hate these revelations!

Eat anything I want after ONE week of getting Lapband?
Catalystmb replied to Laurinda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, thoughts are - put yourself on a mushie stage. Mushies for a week or two CAN'T hurt you at all. A great mushie that I made for us(trying to see what I will tolerate post op) is the Unjury jello recipe. The directions read that it will separate but I just kept mixing every half hour. The jello turned out great! The Unjury so far has been the best tasting. I have tried all flavors except the chicken soup flavor. Can't bring myself to "eat" luke warm "soup". -
Ashley, He is called a CAKE EATER. You know, from the saying have your cake and eat it too. I don't want to say it will be easy to get over him but it will. I don't want to say that it is what you sHOULD do, but it is. I don't AT ALL want to say that you are too young......but man I feel like an old lady writing this. True love, true RESPECT comes from a man who does not "love" someone else. He makes your toes curl (that's what I get from reading this thread). We all know how that is. What it is not is noble. What it is not is respectful of YOU! Whatever you do I wish you well. I hope no one gets hurt.

I get a call from the surgeons office. My insurance requires 6 months of weigh in with my PMD along with any diet I have been folowing. I don't have this. Did anyone else need this? If I start this week 6 months is so long from now. And what if I lose 60 pounds in 6 months then what? Will I still be eligible for the band if my BMI changes so much? Very very frustrated today.

Does anyone do this? Seems to not make sense with the band? I thought no drinking with meals, or too soon before and after. I try to drink a bottle of water before I eat now(remember I am not banded :confused:yet). It seems to take the edge off my hunger.

Do you think there is discrimination against obese people?
Catalystmb replied to milton5a's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
And apparently our money isn't green either!! I experienced this firsthand in Fortunoff at the jewelry counter. I must have stood there 15 minutes before I blew my stack and demanded to be waited on. (I stayed long after 5 minutes because I was SO FRIGGIN shocked that I was being ignored I needed to see how long it would last). I left the counter nearly in tears when I was finally waited on. My DH thought I was crazy until she saw it firsthand in JCPENNEY at the watch counter. He was around the other side and I caught his eye and signaled him to pay attention. Same thing happened.....Purely ignored. I'm well dressed, put together but just fat. I threw the same hissy fit voicing "My money is green mister, what you don't like to serve fat people here in JCP"? DH carted me out quickly......I think I may have blurted out "gee, I guess the diet is working, cause they can't see me"...and probably threw in some expletives. -
I CANNOT WAIT until I can fit into a "regular size" in my scrubs. I am wearing a 3X now. I could use a 2X but I like breathing! We run out of scrubs every once in a while and people say "just wear what they give you, extras" WELL! They don't always HAVE 3X in the linen dept and when they dont they search around yelling "anyone have really big scrubs"? I want to be able to throw on L or M's!!!!!!!

@#$%@ 6 month weigh ins required
Catalystmb replied to Catalystmb's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Will the Dr and or insurance company accept an online tracking like sparkpeople? Or, I should ask, HAS anyones Dr and or insurance accepted it in lieu of 6 months of visits at the Drs office? -
1} Travel; Australia and Japan 2} Own, build, manage a riding facility for special kids

YES you can do it! And so can I! I have the 6 month "crap" to send to the insurance monsters so I cannot even BE banded until June/July. Pissed me off a few days ago but I will take these six months to kick ass!!!!!!! What changes have you made? I am weaning myself off od Diet Coke. I am eating very slowly and trying to shew chew chew. This won't be something I can forget come bandtime so I am trying to make it a habit. I have noticed that I am eating LESS because I am thinking about it. I am not just eating the meal because I am a little hungry and it's time to eat. I also am making good portion choices for us(me and DH). We used to polish off a chicken between the two of us. That's just silly now. I'm pushing water water water. That has always been in my toolkit when I was gun - ho on losing weight. You CAN do it!

@#$%@ 6 month weigh ins required
Catalystmb replied to Catalystmb's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks all for the replies. Yeah, I will try at it again....and probably make it, even 40-60 pounds. And yes, it will be an achievement but I know that it won't be permanent. Figured it this way, six months will go by regardless. Either I will be 6 months older with a weightloss or just 6 months older. Six months older with a loss looks better to me! The news just took the wind out of my sails. :frown: -
Heard -- read on these boards that gum is a NO NO after the band. Makes sense as if you accidently swallow it it would cause you to be stuck. Ask your doc about gum.

I think he's playing both of you. Let him know that if and when he is SINGLE then and only then can you two see eachother. Too many hearts to be broken over this if he's seeing more than only you, UNLESS you ALL know about it beforehand.
-
Yes you are "spitting" sutures. Do not cut it as it is most probably "run" which means it is started and not knotted until the length of the incision is sutured. If anything let your Dr cut it at your next visit. Their scissors will have been sterilized.

Keeping it a secret?
Catalystmb replied to Fluffy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The list of who I might tell is getting smaller in my head. The ones who I have told are 50/50 split on being supportive of critical. I need answers to it being an easy way out. I need answers to "why dont you just eat less now?" And when I explain that I have eaten less and lose weight but itll just come back on..I get the WEAK speech. Then the talking goes to ok, I have the band, and am forced to eat less so I lose weight, I am NOT doing it, the band is. I have no answers for that one. -
I THINK I have a set of these coming in the mail. I ordered them from the Q. I thought that she talked to you and maybe there was some music that you walked to outside or on the treadmill. What does she do? March in place? Walk around the livingroom or do you NEED a treadmill? I tried to look her up at her website but you need to pay to join her "club". Thanks

Left Shoulder Pain After Lap Band Surgery
Catalystmb replied to vbaum's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'll think on it. :cryAs an MT nearly everything I see has a soft tissue & trigger point link. Which side is your port on? Which side is your pain? Is the pain typical of what you had post op? Are you left or right handed? Do you have any cervical or thoracic tightness? When was your last massage? -

BAD start to the liquid diet, and I don't feel I can tell my doc
Catalystmb replied to crackedpepper's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
:omg: You are kidding here right? If you are in the medical field you are well aware of NPO (nothing by mouth) procedures pre op. The reason is NOT to prevent a clean up it is to prevent the patient form aspiration. I feel nauseas after every surgery I have had(3 in the last 18 months). Your anesthesiologist will give you meds for it. I think someone has tampered with your scoop. We can only rely on what a patient tells us pre op. You'd be amazed how many surgeries are canceled because the patients admits to a "light" Breakfast, "only" coffee and milk, " a "small" bagel. CANCEL. The ones who lie about it and HAVE aspirated are a trip. We start suctioning the stomach and see coffee grinds, and sometimes food. Aspiration can lead to aspiration pneumonia and can lead to DEATH. We have all choked on something that went doen the wrong way. You hacked and hacked until it came up. When you are under anesthesia you do not have those reflexes to rely on. That is why it is so important to not eat before surgery. The only exception is patients (in our facility) are told they MAY have a SMALL SIP of Water to take necessary meds. I forgo my meds and take them post. True, if the patient has eaten. BUT, and this is a big but, the risk of not doing the emergency surgery outweigh the risks of having surgery on a full stomach. Please, I implore you to not eat beforehand. Please. I try REALLY hard here to not interject when I see lay person medical advice...even "my doctor says" info. A lot of it has been rubbish but not harmful(so far). When I saw this I had to jump in. Scared the $#@^%^ out of me. Please take it in the spirit I intended. -
Left Shoulder Pain After Lap Band Surgery
Catalystmb replied to vbaum's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Woohooo a topic right up my alley. I am a Massage Therapist and a Certified Surgical Technician. The gas expands your "belly" your diaphragm is distended. In doing so, there is pressure on the phrenic nerve . There are also trigger points from your diaphragm which refer pain to the shoulder. The insufflation of the abdominal cavity is not the only reason for the phrenic nerve to be irritated. The physiology of the surrounding peritoneal tissue is also affected. There is cellular death on a microscopic level due to the gas itself, it's temperature and it's lack of humidity. The shoulder pain should dissipate soon after surgery. With my MT hat on I would think there were still trigger points in serratus and the diaphragm itself. I think I saw another MT on this board? What do you think? -
I'm a member of this club for sure! I cannot have Splenda. When it was first out I wanted to like it. Their website even states that it does not affect the tummy like many others. It does for me. Too bad because there are a lot of new foods out there made with splenda. I only have Nutrisweet and if I am home making tea I'll use Stevia from TJ's.
