Also remember that it SHOULD be tax deductible.

Change the food. Hairballs might be the culprit for the vomitting. If it persists, I'd tae her back to the vet.

I'm having one Wednesday. I think I blogged about it. Anyhow, I too told them I DON'T snore and I thought I would only need PFT's. Just before the visit was over the pulmo told me he sends everyone considering this surgery to have a sleep study. I have a hrd time sleeping in a strange place. I need my pillows, I use three for sleeping. One behind my back, on between my knees and one under my head. I am a side/stomach sleeper so having wires on me is freaking me out a bit. I also don't have any button front jammies which they told me I needed. ACCESS I guess. I should say that I have a DRAWER full of adorable button up jammies but they, along with so many other things, DON'T FIT! I'm also worried about doing something "inappropriate" during my sleep. I have VERY vivid dreams! I'll let you know how it goes.

The patient who knew too much....
Catalystmb replied to Laineyjeanne's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Lainey. Wishing you an uneventful emergence! You'll be fine, you know that. I have always found astrology facinating. I am a Leo through and through. Keep posting and don't worry about negative posts. Sometimes the tone of what a person truly wants to say is lost and then sometimes, they are just being rude. -
Unless you have an injury what you are experiencing is most likely DOMS(delayed onset muscle soreness). When you either haven't been exercising, or are exercising a new set of mucles you essentially have some micro trauma and it's inflammatory responses in the tissue. NSAIDS (which I think banders are told to stay away from), stretching, and time will help relieve the pain. The easiest example of what this pain is normally is riding a horse after you haven't for a long time. Your legs feel painful, it's hard to walk. Hair of the dog is good for this.....walk a bit today. You may hear/read that it is lactic acid that is causing your pain. Recently it has been found that there is a "lactic acid myth". Hope you feel better. If your pain is worsened or doesn't resolve call your doctor.

How Long After Surgery Do We Drink The Protein Shakes For?
Catalystmb replied to Erika-PA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Erika, If you are going to order more, give them a call or EMAIL and ask to be put on autodelivery. They let you tailor the dates you need it delievere dplus they take money off, Im thinking 6 buks per order(from what you are paying now). I did this the last time I ordered because its the only Protein shake I can handle both tastewise and sugar substitute wise. -
We LOVE TBL. We also have watched every season of Survivor....but need to let a few people be voted off first (TOO many to follow). I watched the first few episodes of LOST but HATED it after that. It was also scheduled serveral times a week and then they would play repeats. We watched it this season and its so much more intersting than it was the last seasons. We dont have the station this is on but we LOVE WEEDS Showtime I think. little boxes..little boxes......lollolol

I still struggle with a good response for this-that doesnt leave me looking EVIL. I am preee pre band and losing a tiny amount of weight due to me really fighting the fight because I have the stupid 6 month medically supervised diet to be on. I have lost less than 7 pounds but I have lost something. when my "friends" hear this they always start the "you're doing it" speech. "Why can't you just continue to do it on your own"? The answer? I CAN. Hell, I'm sure I could lose all of it again ON MY OWN but guess what? 95% chance it wil creep back. I'm 44 this year and I will not let another year go by at an unhealthy weight! Grrrrr.

:smile2:You are looking wonderful! Does your back feel any different? Heres to a speedy recovery for you! -
Did any of you, I know some must, have BIG calves before surgery and if so, did they go away after the weight loss? I have super sized calves. Even when I was thin I had large calves. Besides my bottom belly its the only thing that irks me about my body.

Not the way your surgeon wants it or the insurance? I have to ask that my Doc write SPECIFICS on the progress notes. She nods and then I day, PLEASE, please write down that I am on a low fat/low cal diet and that we discussed exercise and record the weight. I actually hover until I see her write it. I'm not doing this #$^ for 6 months to have a denial waiting for because of wording. Whether it is your surgeon or Ins. ask if you can have a note placed in your record with any other info they might need. If you were on a 6 month with your doc, what was it they still needed? This infuriates me as they don't understand what a setback a few words can cause.

6 long months to wait
Catalystmb replied to QuincyGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Six months should be enough time for you to finish all of your testing. After my "informative" seminar we then had a 3 hour "class". There was a group of about 7 in the room. We all had our personal packets made up for us outlining the tests needed. A reference list and phone numbers was also provided. Between working and scheduling tests and doctors visits if I did everything right now I can see it taking the better part of a month or two. I am in the second month of the six month period and only have two items checked off of that list. Next week, three are being tackled. The six months is fine for me. It should work out well for you. -

Actual Procedure
Catalystmb replied to texasgal2008's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the OR we sometimes use a "bean bag" when positioning warrants its use. I have only used it during shoulder arthroscopies. The bean bag is still atop the OR table. It is covered with sheets or blankets and your amrs, legs, ankles, would be padded after you went to sleep. the bean bag is then molded into shape(to secure the pt) and the air is taken out of the bag to make it stiff(remember you are padded). I've never seen it used for lap procedures but that doesn't mean your Doctor won't use it. Each surgeon tailors his/her preferences according to their own experiences and needs. EVERY effort is made before your surgery begins to assure your comfort(even when you are asleep) with the use of pillows, blankets, gel rolls, foam etc. -
What did you wear?
Catalystmb replied to krazygrl77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For all of the surgeries I have had I have worn comfortable sweats and a roomie shirt/sweatshirt. New socks(which I never put on, I kept the horrid slipper socks on.ewww), and sneakers tied LOOSE so I could slip into them. Slippers and (when staying more than 1 night), a new granny nightgown and robe. You are going to get up walking almost right away. You can use their slipper socks but I also slipped on new cushy slippers. Going home the loose sweats were a godsend(other kind of surgery). Pillow in car for the bumps. -
Are you part of a large or small company? Here in the US our employers do not have to know why you are out short term. A note by the Doctor is sufficient. If we are filing for short term disabilty benefits the reasons will be on the forms. I work for a hospital. For me to be out of work more than three days I have to be cleared through the employee health department. They would know the reason but just give me a short note stating I can return to work. They are bound by a confidentiality clause. If you have to go through your HR department tell them you expect them to honor your privacy.

VENT: Does it really take THIS long???
Catalystmb replied to mommakatx2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you are OK with your appointments being a few days off of a perfect months distance. I know that whenever I have my May appointment I will be making a June 1st appointment and trotting all of my paperwork on over to the surgeons office for them to submit. They won't even submit until I have this requirement. The crappy part about that is I can't make my venous duplex appointment until I am approved. I am thinking of making it anyhow( I work with the vascualr surgeons anyhow) and if I am denied, I will cancel. It seems like a lot of hoops to jump through, and it is. They are all worth it, really. It is for our own good and health assurance. I have to keep reminding myself of this daily. If everything goes as planned(and really, with Murphy following me around not much does) I should be banded sometime in mid/late June. -

Catalystmb replied to mommakatx2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Except for the fact that my "fee" was a little less, our experience is identical. Hey, I figure I have had this problem for a few years....5 more months isn't going to kill me. -
Wal-Mart opening up doctors offices in store.
Catalystmb replied to crazycat's topic in Rants & Raves
Why wouldn't you go? It would be a walk in clinic type urgent care center. It can only lessen the burden our Emergency Rooms have on a daily basis with the uninsured looking for medical care. Some of the stop in Dr.s offices have a low payment and SOME even have a follow up at no charge. I bet you'll see a lot more people taking advantage of their open house type screenings. Early widespread intervention is a good thing. It's a good idea. -
Yes I have been overwhelmed by more than a few things regarding the lapband process. Timeline and reality(photos, numbers etc) get to me. I reflect on everything. Talk to friends, family, Dr.s and myself...lol This message board has been a Godsend.

DAMM! I thought Murphy only followed me around. Tough breaks, glad you are all physically OK. You should play the lottery!

I seriously do not like that guy, he's creepy! I do not buy the fact that he wanted to leave during the first elimination. Something is up. I wanted Rob, not Boston Rob to be on the show.

Silly Surgery Question
Catalystmb replied to chloemom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The reason you cannot/shouldn't wear underwear is to lessen/avoid the risk of a burn. We use electric cautery to stop bleeding and although you are grounded(via the "cold sticky pad" placed, most likely, on your thigh) there is a risk of a burn if you have elastic/nylon underwear. This is also the reason you are told to remove jewelry. Your gown will be either removed or folded up high onto your chest. Blankets will cover your body below your umbilicus and across your chest covering your arms. After prepping, the surgical site is squared off with 4 OR towels. The drape is then placed over that area (in this case your abdomen). Your modesty/privacy is important to us. You are not exposed unnecessarily. As soon as the surgery is finished we will clean the remaining betadine/blood from the operative site with laps and warm saline/water. In some cases, some betadine is left behind. I hope this explained the need for no underwear. -
Ok, a LOT! Went to a "class" today about the procedure, ins requirements etc. Paid my $200 "fee" so I guess I'm officially on the way to Lapland. I lef there a little overwhelmed and a lot frustrated with all of the preoperative testing they require. I have worked with these doctors for a long time and although I knew there would be testing I had no idea there would be so much. It's in my best interest, I KNOW, but I want this over with now. Seeing as I am (and it seemed all of insurers listed are too) in the "need a six month medically supervised weightloss attempt with an APPROVED" diet and weigh ins with progres notes.....I will just go along and make the appointments and hopefully five minths from now I can finally gave this procedure! According to their rec's I do not need the colonsocopy or sleep study(although the pulmonologist could still order one). The tests so far needed are: Blood tests Venous duplex (should be done last before surgery) Pulmonology eval Cardiology eval Abdominal sono Psych eval Nutritional eval GI eval AND EGD (for everyone) Surgical consult PMD eval and clearance Support group meeting As I understood it they will not even submit for approval until the 6 month sup diet is recorded and obtained. I have loads of time. Yeah for me! I have a plan. While some do not advocate making numered/pounds goals, it works well with me. I would like to lose between 30 and 50 pounds in these next 5 months. Lord knows I will still be in the range "acceptable" for the surgery. Something I did notice. It seemed as though the NP (and her printed literature) almost disuaded people from the DS. "OH" and I am apparently an inch shorter than I have been my entire adult life(doubtful) and weigh 7 pounds more than I did yesterday (per their equipement). I elected to keep my sneakers on. I ama realist, the sneaker weight isn't going to make me either jump off a bridge or jump for joy however I KNOW they are not 7 pouns sneakers!
