Don't want to eat
Daenerys Targaryen replied to Dalirya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know if it would help you, but I found it on Amazon just now. Turns out the "ON" stands for Optimum Nutrition. But this is what I've been drinking. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a link to it (seem like I read we aren't supposed to post links) but if you search Amazon, it is called: Optimum Nutrition Protein Water, Tropical Fruit Punch, 12 Count from Optimum Nutrition -
Don't want to eat
Daenerys Targaryen replied to Dalirya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is that the brand name? Got pics? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App . The brand name is "On" and the bottle says "On Protein Water." There are several different flavors. I have the fruit punch flavor and it is good, you can't taste the protein at all. Post-surgery I am having an aversion to sweet stuff, so I water mine down with extra water. Ordered it from Costco website but I bet you can get it other places. It's a great way to get Fluid and protein in at the same time but as thin as flavored water. -
Don't want to eat
Daenerys Targaryen replied to Dalirya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am two weeks out. I have zero appetite too. Protein Water from Costco has been a lifesaver. One bottle has 20grams protein and is just like drinking flavored water, but I'm able to get protein in. I just force myself to sip all day. -
Un-filling the band before revision surgery?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to lolarose13's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My surgeon removed all the fluid from my band about a month and a half before my revision to give my stomach some relief and healing before the surgery. -
Are requirements the same for revision?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to IMissVegas's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my band to bypass revision about a week and a half ago. My insurance required all the stuff a non-revision would have to do (six month diet, psych evaluation, etc) but had the extra requirement that I had to prove I was "compliant" with the lapband rules while I had the band, and I also had to have a malfunction of the band currently causing it to need to be removed (Luckily I did, it had slipped and turned). But I have terrible insurance so maybe yours won't be as complicated as mine. -
St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN
Daenerys Targaryen replied to DebiW's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
When I was there they told us there were a few cots available but it was first come first serve and you have to request early. We tried a couple nights to get one for my husband but they were already taken. -
St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN
Daenerys Targaryen replied to DebiW's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
No, I don't think Dr. Weaver knew. That night my husband finally got me out and walking since we decided the lady was never going to come, but there were others that didn't walk at all. Your hubby may have to stay on them for them to do what they are supposed to sometimes. Just be prepared for that. But it really depends on which nurse is on duty. I had a really great night nurse that did a wonderful job. The daytime staff seemed to not really know what was going on sometimes. You will need someone prepared to advocate for you and call/find the nurse. But then you might have a completely different experience. -
St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN
Daenerys Targaryen replied to DebiW's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I had my surgery at St. Francis about a week and a half ago. I had Dr. Weaver. A few of the nurses were really great, most were just ok. It was a good experience overall though. Definitely keep someone with you at all times while you are there, because they do forget to do the things they tell you they are going to do sometimes. The day after surgery they told me that someone was coming to get me walking for the first time and it was important that for the first walk I walked with her, and then nobody showed all day. There were several rooms of us that didn't walk at all the day after surgery because of it. But then there was one night nurse who really went out of her way to take care of me. So I have mixed reviews. -
To citrate or not to citrate that is the question
Daenerys Targaryen replied to MinaDina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I struggled with this same question last week before my bypass. My surgeon only required I do clear liquids the day before surgery and no laxative. I wanted to make sure I was cleaned out and not risking infection. However, I decided that I wanted to begin this journey following my surgeon's advice to the letter instead of doing my own thing. So I didn't drink the laxative and everything has been fine, no infection. -
Expected weight loss at 6 months out
Daenerys Targaryen replied to onmyway11's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just had a band to bypass revision last week and my surgeon said the revisions she has done lost weight at the same rate as non-revisions. She also said the main weight loss period is a year to 18 months. Hope that helps. -
I jumped through all the insurance hoops and they still tried to deny me twice. Then I hired Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy Group, and between pressure from Lindstrom and my surgeon doing a peer-to-peer, my denials were overturned and I had my surgery this past Wednesday. Don't take no for an answer if it happens. Many insurances make you battle for approval.

Home care post op?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to Jennifer Deen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my bypass a week ago, and I would recommend having someone with you at least for a couple days. It has been worth it just to have people lift things that I am restricted from lifting. Also when I dropped things it was impossible to bend over and pick them off the floor. -
Doctor Discouraged Lap Band Procedure
Daenerys Targaryen replied to marg294ever's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I had a band placed in 2008 and it was a mistake. I just had it revised to bypass this past Wednesday. I was one of the people that couldn't tolerate fills because the band caused reflux so bad I would get aspiration pneumonia. So it was a waste of lots of money, because you don't know if you can tolerate fills until you have one. Also over the years it slipped and twisted and all kinds of things. Lots of scar tissue. It was going to have to be removed regardless of whether I revised to bypass or not. -
I had my band to bypass revision a few days ago on 7-20-16. I had to stay an extra day in the hospital because I couldn't pee on my own, but finally got to go home yesterday. Now I am just working on sipping protein water, walking around the house, and resting. I did manage to get 1 premier protein shake in today by taking small sips throughout the day. I am so glad to finally begin my weight loss journey. [emoji4]

Waking up after surgery
Daenerys Targaryen replied to Sherbear2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had band to bypass surgery four days ago. When I met the anesthesiologist in the holding area before surgery, I explained that I am a puker. So she made sure I had no nausea and I was very thankful, since throwing up can be serious. I don't remember seeing anything in the recovery room. I kept my eyes closed. But I remember several people loudly telling me to breathe a whole lot and I kept responding "I can't. It hurts." I must've lost consciousness after because the next memory blip I have was me in my room and my husband and nurse telling me to breathe. I found out afterwards that my oxygen kept nosediving. Really I don't remember much from the first two days as I slept a lot. -

JULY surgery dates!
Daenerys Targaryen replied to MoniiG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are having surgery the same day, how are you feeling?. I am a tiny bit nervous but mostly excited. I think insurance putting up a fight about covering it has really made me appreciate being able to get it. I am ready to get this weight loss started. How are you feeling as its getting closer? So I'm getting more nervous. Surgery day is tomorrow and I had trouble falling asleep last night. I was thinking about everything I had to pack and wondering about so much. Rough night. I was hoping to sleep in since today is liquids only day ... but no luck there :/. Are you ready for tomorrow?. Yes. I am ready. I have been waiting for this and I am ready to not be so big. But I am nervous too. Today is liquids only for me too. I am trying to stay distracted with housecleaning and errands. Best of luck tomorrow! It is neat to know I've got a surgery date twin. I hope it all goes well for you and you have minimal pain. -

My insurance denied my revision surgery that was scheduled for Tuesday. Has anyone had experience with hiring Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy group to help with the appeals process?
-
So my insurance is crazy. I started the process to get my band to bypass conversion back in October 2015. Bariatric is covered but I had to do a six month supervised diet and a bunch of other hoops. I jumped through all the required hoops. The insurance lady at the surgeon's office submitted everything at the end of May and went ahead and gave me a June 28th surgery date. June 20th, ActiveHealth sends a letter approving band removal and denying bypass. My surgeon has been out of town, but comes back Monday. She is going to do a peer-to-peer on Monday to see if we can overturn the decision and still have my surgery Tuesday. I am a nervous wreck and have been on the starvation liver-shrink diet since June 14th, as directed. I'm scheduled to go on Clear liquids Monday and will do so until I hear how how the peer to peer went. I am not a fan of ActiveHealth right now!
