Which Foods Can’t You Eat Now?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
I can eat anything except bananas. I have tried several times but they hurt my stomach with cramping to the point of tears. -
After revision did you have shortness of breathe?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to FattoFit7's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I did not. May want to call your doc just to be safe. Seems like shortness of breath was something I was supposed to watch out for. Never hurts to be safe. -
Newbie: started off great and going downhill fast!!
Daenerys Targaryen replied to DroppingOneHundred's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 9 months now and can eat easily as long as I listen to my stomach and stop when full. Some days have more restriction than others. A couple days ago, I was able to easily eat a slice of pizza and a cookie at a work lunch, but today for lunch I could only eat maybe 4-5 bites of salad before I was stuffed. Some days and meals have more/less restriction and some foods cause different levels of restriction. For the first six months, I couldn't eat very much at all and had a hard time not accidentally eating a bite too much and throwing up. Around the 6-7 month mark, that changed and the throwing up almost stopped (along with being able to eat more and more easily). The 6-7 month mark is common for that to occur from what I've read from other posters. Hope this gives you a time frame. The first six months is the biggest struggle for eating and getting sick, but also you fastest weight loss window. -
Newbie: started off great and going downhill fast!!
Daenerys Targaryen replied to DroppingOneHundred's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will get better. At your stage I was struggling to get in half a protein shake. Your new stomach is that tiny and trying to heal. I was tired and weak too. But hang in there and just do what you can. Don't drink so much you get sick. It's ok to listen to your body and do small amounts of protein shake, just be sure to get water and vitamins in. Before you know it, it will be several months later and you'll be eating solid food easily. -
Band to Bypass

Yes! I feel so great! I have so much more energy now and feel like I am really living my life now! So happy! -
Band to Bypass
Daenerys Targaryen replied to Ms Gina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Having my band to bypass surgery 9 months ago was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I had the lapband for years and was gaining weight. Got up to 426. Was 390 the morning of the revision and now I'm down to 258. The bypass is so much better for me than the band was. I don't have to worry about getting things stuck and having to throw up. It's a more natural feeling and I just feel full when I've had enough to eat, like a normal person. -
Did you lose your boobs?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to MelyMoon's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine have lost weight and gotten smaller and more oblong. The good news is I can buy new ones eventually! [emoji847] -
Yes, this weight fluctuation has happened many times for me over the past 9 months. Usually it's just water weight fluctuations. Don't sweat it. It's normal. Just keep following your program and you'll start losing again.

8 months out - is this when the depression hits?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to ryan_86's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am around 9 months out and completely understand you. I noticed my anxiety increasing and even though I've lost 165 lbs, I am extremely unhappy about the remaining 100 lbs of fat I need to lose. It is like I notice the fat on me more now than I did when I was over 400 lbs. It's really weird. When I was 400 lbs, I always saw myself as smaller than I was in mirrors and such, but now that I am 258, I see myself as bigger than I am and struggle to see the weight I've lost. Super weird. I upped my dosage of Lexapro a couple weeks ago, and am starting to feel better now. -
Protein Shakes
Daenerys Targaryen replied to AmandaR82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second Premier Protein. 30 grams of protein and doesn't taste bad at all. When I get tired of the flavors offered (chocolate, vanilla, etc) I just mix the vanilla in a blender with frozen mango, frozen blueberries, etc to create my own new flavor. -
Am I being a dishonest Christian?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to TeamMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a Christian, and I don't tell people about my surgery unless they are family or friends that I feel like sharing with. My medical history is private, and I wouldn't feel obligated to tell others if I had had some other type of surgery. So when coworkers ask how I've lost 160 lbs, I tell them a piece of truth (I go to the gym now, I eat less carbs, smaller portions, etc) and then I change the subject. My battle with weight may be apparent on the outside, but it's a very personal and private issue for me on the inside. Some people are more open about it, and that's ok too. Don't lie about anything, but don't feel like the world is entitled to your private medical history. -
So... what is a good amount of calories intake?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to ShilohD's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
As long as you're losing, you are doing fine. I'm 9 months out from a band to bypass revision and still can only eat 650-850 calories a day. My metabolism is slow from years of dieting and having the lapband plus genetics. My dietician says when I reach maintenance I will need to eat 1,200 calories to maintain. So it's different for different people with different metabolisms and levels of activity. As long as you're losing, you must be doing it right for you. -
Head hunger
Daenerys Targaryen replied to bossportsgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still battling head hunger at 7 months post op. -
Heartburn(?)
Daenerys Targaryen replied to jenifreckles47's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You won't feel "full" for several months after some healing has occurred. At 3 days out just keep taking tiny sips of fluid. When you progress to puréed food and such, measure everything and just eat that portioned amount. -
7 months slowdown/stall ?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to JoeVegas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am doing the 5 day pouch test thing to get back on track. Only had liquid protein shakes today. 🤞🏻 -
I think a lot depends on how much weight you carried in your face/neck. I am 34 and looked late 20's before surgery, but I had a very fat face and neck. I've lost 117 lbs in 7 months and now I've got sagging skin on my face and under my chin, making me look older. What surprised me is that I guess I had a lot of fat between my eyelids and eyebrows, because that skin now hangs loosely over my eyelids, making me look like an older woman. It is weird for me to see myself looking much more aged now in photos and in the mirror. I look 10-15 years older now than I did before surgery, but I would still rather look older at 273 lbs than be in the 400's again.

Almost 8 months out-questions and pic
Daenerys Targaryen replied to Clarevoyant's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Almost 8 months too, and suddenly noticing the same larger capacity for food. Very scary as I still have a lot of weight left to lose! I still want to lose another 123 lbs to get to 150. I am hoping it is still achievable. -
7 months slowdown/stall ?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to JoeVegas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the 7 month stall boat too. Surgery was July 20th. Lost well the first six months, then February brought no weight loss. I've lost just a couple pounds in March. I need to eat less carbs. [emoji20] -
400+ LB Vets advice
Daenerys Targaryen replied to Sarah Perkins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't consider myself a vet, but hopefully this will help. My highest weight was 426 and I was 390 surgery morning July 20th. I am a little over 7 months post op and down to 273. Because of the high weight, the first six months of weight loss went fast. I went through the 300's pretty quick. Now things are going a bit slower at month 7 and I am having to work a little more for it, but that is normal from what I've read. I revised to bypass from a lap and, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. -
Measured portions are the way to go, especially the first several months. You are not able to really feel when you are full. I am around 7 months out, and my nose starts to run when I am satisfied. But, that doesn't happen 100% of the time, so I still measure my portions.

Vitamins with water?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to Carol94303's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told it is better to take vitamins with food and not drink for at least 30 minutes after, to give time for maximum absorption. -
Anyone 370 lbs or more?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to js_gonna_be_vsg's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Started my journey at 426. Had my band to bypass revision at 390. Six months post op, I am 281. I still have a long ways to go and weight loss has definitely slowed, but it's still working and I am going to see it through until I reach my goal. -
Sugar free cakes, cookies, sweets in general
Daenerys Targaryen replied to tigraq08's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I do the sugar free sweets as an occasional treat! [emoji1327] i found them especially helpful at Christmas when I had to watch everyone enjoying desserts and cookies. During that time, I tried sugar free chocolate chip cookies and sugar free Reese's cups. I loved both and they tasted like the real thing, so I didn't feel deprived during the holidays. I also found my local frozen yogurt shop has sugar free froyo, and I have enjoyed a little of that on two special occasions. -
Denied By BCBS HELP
Daenerys Targaryen replied to Broughtkar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bcbs denied my revision two days before my scheduled surgery (I had already been on the livershrink diet for two weeks). I fought them all summer, but finally it was a combination of hiring a Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy lawyer and my surgeon doing a peer-to-peer that got them to overturn the decision and pay for the surgery. I had jumped through all their hoops- six month doctor-supervised diet, etc. Don't give up hope! Denials can be overturned. -
Why did you choose bypass?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to Seraya's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I revised from lapband to bypass because 1) I had reflux and sometimes sleeve patients have to revise to bypass due to reflux. I didn't want to have another surgery down the road. 2) bypass is the gold standard with the best success statistics and longest history 3) I have a lot of weight to lose and needed the biggest bang for my buck. I've lost 109 lbs since my revision surgery day six months ago. I am happy with my decision.
