Protein Shakes - Do I have to?
Mania replied to Jackiesleeved2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The Isopure protein drinks have a NASTY aftertaste. But if you can power through that and keep it down and get your protein, go for it. I would also try unflavored protein powder added to water + crystal light -

Surgery is scheduled for this Thursday. I am on day 12 of my pre-op diet plus I had been eating better (mostly) for past 6 months. Today, I was out running errands to get a few last things for post-op days here at the house and my pants kept slipping. I went to tighten my belt another notch and realized that there were no more notches available. Excited (and nervous) to have the surgery, but excited at what I know the outcome will be.

As a fluffy frequent flier, I can tell you that it will also depend on the airline and the gate agent. Hopefully you will not get a bitchy gate agent.

My personal opinion... The bypass reroutes the plumbing and takes part of the intestines away. The sleeve only cuts away the stomach but the plumbing is left intact. I know there are other things to consider but this is my $0.02.

I kinda like the idea of sleeping the whole month of December. ????
-
Congratulations. I hope my surgery next week goes as smoothly.

Day 8 of my 2 week liquid diet. Didn't have any requirements for losing weight before surgery but I self-imposed a diet (ok.. Making better choices when I eat). Have lost close to 50 lbs.
-
Now I see. Congrats to your son. Have you started you pre-op diet yet?

I'm south of Fort Worth. Scheduled for 11/19. Can't believe they scheduled you for the day before Thanksgiving. ????????

Good luck on your upcoming surgery. I am two days later on the 19th. Let's us know how everything goes.

Glad The Boss Is Understanding...
Mania replied to NewLeaf15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's great. I am fortunate to be in a similar situation, but with two bosses. I work as an IT consultant. One is my manager for the company I work for. Since I am on a long term assignment I made sure the manager of the group that I am working with knows about my planned outages too. Both have been very supportive. -
One of my biggest fears since I had surgery is..

My NUT said slider foods are foods that go through the stomach easily, therefore don't stay long enough to give you a satiated feeling. She listed soup, crackers, ice cream, cereal, juice, popcorn, chips, etc. -
Thank you. I will tell you what helped me was making one change at a time. Doing that until I was comfortable and then adding another change. I still didn't make all the changes I wanted too (still struggling with chewing my food like I should... When I was eating food before this 2 week liquid diet that is trying to kill me. Stomach and head in constant battle). Good luck. You got this. You know you better than anyone. Sometimes it just takes being honest with yourself (which is way harder than it seems).

What is your Anthem?

Crossfire by Stevie Ray Vaughn -
I will have gastric sleeve surgery in 8 days. I spent 2 years researching everything I could find and the last 6 months trying to incorporate the post-surgery changes. I am too stubborn to go through this process and fail. I've warned my wife that when I can start exercising after surgery I may turn into a "health nut".
-
I faced the same problems that you are facing. In fact I still struggle with emotional eating. I've learned to recognize it and now have tools to help me deal with it (drinking water, keeping busy - I make Paracord bracelets and such to keep my mind and hands busy). Remember that the surgery is only a tool, you need to be committed to making the changes necessary to sustain a healthy lifestyle.
-
So Bariatric surgery often reverses type 2 diabetes so I would not be too worried about that. I would suggest you do lots of research on Bariatric surgery and the type or surgery that you will have. Also, start incorporating the changes that you will be required to make to have a successful Post-surgery lifestyle before surgery. The sooner the better.

Starting the process could use some encouragement
Mania replied to blmcdbug's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First and foremost, contact your insurance. Ask them if they cover Bariatric surgery. They may have their own requirements (diet period, doctors and hospitals that you must use, co-pay info). It's worth the 30 or so minutes of your time to do this. Your surgeon will need to know what your insurance requires so that he can work with you to meet the requirements. My $0.02 -
I use Premier protein shakes. I also have Unjury chicken soup flavored.

Are you type 1 or type 2 diabetic. Do you take mess to control your diabetes? Are you on a sugar free diet. Do you make sure that all your food is sugar free/low in sugars? Do you know the other names that sugar goes by in ingredients?

Big guy needing new mattress......suggestions on what's working for you......

Glad that it helped. It took me a while to get see to sleeping like that but now I can't sleep any other way. Continued luck on your recovery. -
Carbonated diet caffeine free drinks?!
Mania replied to volsfan82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT says no carbonation... FOREVER!!! I would ask your NUT. Also a little concerned that you think you might have hurt your sleeve with your eating.
