  1. This is what I did. Start making good food choices. Eat like you will have to after surgery, not necessarily that small a portion but definitely smaller portions. Chew chew chew. Drink lots of Water but not 15 mins before or 30 mins after meal. Eat 4-5 small meals a day Ween yourself off sugar and carbonated beverages Start walking more.

    Embrace the Stall

Quick question. I had my VSG surgery 10 days ago. Before I started my 2 week liquid diet, I weighed 372.8 lbs. On this past Thursday I weighed 335.8. So that a loss of 37 lbs in roughly 3 weeks. I think I am now stalled because I have not lost any weight since Thursday (was seeing a 2-3 lbs a day after surgery.). Can this be my 3 week stall?
  3. My NUT said to crush/open pills that were bigger than a Tylenol caplet. I opened the capsule on my multivitamin yesterday, first day taking after surgery, and it was a mess. Couldn't break them apart so I ended u cutting them and then trying to get everything out of capsule. On top of that it was hard to wash the pill down and get the nasty taste out of my mouth. So I figured WTH and took a flyer that I could take them as is since I have been doing so well with my recovery (hardly any issues at all). I had no problems so my NUT can just live with my decision for my body (and I figure her directive was for the masses).
  4. 8 days post op and I take pills as they are. No problems at all (yet).

    ANY TEXAS SLEEVERS?

I don't mind sharing any of my experiences. But since the whole story is rather long (and likely boring), is there anything in particular you would like to know about?Thank you so much!! (: I have bcbstx insurance and the only thing they require is the psych evaluation. I have been referred to a surgeon but I'm waiting on a call back on an appointment date. How long did your process take before you had your surgery? I'm worried about the pre op diet because I am addicted to sweets. I'm glad to hear you are doing really good! Thank you for taking the time to help me I appreciate it It took about 7 weeks from the time I had my initial consult with the surgeon until I had surgery. My insurance (UHC) had no requirements based on my BMI and co-morbidities, but my surgeon had me do a psych evaluation, EGD (because I have had acid reflux and took Nexium everyday for years. They discovered I had a hiatal hernia), and a cardio work up. As for the pre-op diet, I had a two week liquid diet that was hard at first but got easier as the days rolled buy. The best advice I can give you is to start making the changes that are required for post-op life now. It will make it easier down the road. There are also a few good books to read, I would recommend "The emotional first aid kit: a practical guide to life after Bariatric surgery". Think of it as a primer for living with Bariatric surgery.
  7. My surgeon said that I would be going home the same day as my surgery. I asked him to keep me overnight as my surgery was at a hospital that was over 1.5 hours away and my wife was not comfortable driving in the area. He said that it was no problem. We stayed overnight and was dismissed the next day. Fortunately I have had an exceptional post-op experience.

    ANY TEXAS SLEEVERS?

Fort Worth area here. Sleeved on 11/19. Doing exceptionally well post-op.
  10. My insurance also didn't require a waiting period because of my co-morbidities and I had lost 20 lbs on my own in a 6 month period. My initial consult with the surgeon was on 09/29 and I had surgery on 11/19.

Even with the sleeve you are going to be on vitamins for the rest of your life.
  12. Update. Almost 24 hours since surgery. Slept OK. Abdomen still hurts and feels bloated but pain is a lot less than yesterday. Think most of my win is gas related. Feel like a good belch would make it all go away. Throat and mouth still dry but sipping liquids as much as I can. Walking and sitting up seem to help with the gassy feeling. Periodically getting hiccups which I swear are going to kill me.

    Name Your Sleeve!

I just had surgery this morning. So far my sleeves name is MF'ing Beyotch (subject to change)
  14. Surgery went well. Walking, sleeping, walking resting, walking, sleeping. Abdomen hurts, feel bloated, and would give up my first born for a rip roaring burp. But the important thing is I made it through. Hope everyone else is doing good too.
  15. Final rant before I go back for surgery. Why was I told to be at hospital at 5:00 when they won't even take me back until 6:00? Good luck everyone. See y'all on the other side.
  16. I am scheduled for 7:00 am. I am using toddler forks and spoons for food (supposed to be size of dime) and I splurged on a 30oz Yeti Rambler for liquids. The yeti keeps liquids hot or cold for a long time (I can put ice and liquid in at night before bed and still have almost the same size ice cubes in the morning) and the lid allows me to sip.
  17. So you don't mention where you are in the WLS journey. Pre or post surgery? Have you lost weight? I read on another thread here that hormones are stored in the excess fat of your body and as you lose weight that the hormones are released. That could explain it depending on your situation.
  18. Start chewing your food like your NUT recommends (mine says 30-40 times/applesauce consistency) and not drinking 15 mins before and 30 mins after eating. Surgery is tomorrow and I still struggled with trying to,do these two things.
  19. Mine is tomorrow too. I have to be at hospital at 5:00am. Don't think I am gonna get any sleep tonight.

    Pre-Op Struggles!

This is day 14 of my pre-op diet (surgery in the morning). If you can have SF Popsicles that might help. Made me think I was eating something with the biting and chewing. Also, keep busy. I had to keep my mind and hands busy so I played with different Paracord projects. And as always LOTS OF H2O.
