Please Help......RNY and Nicotine Test
Sande posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been a smoker for about 24 years non-stop. Well I went cold turkey the first part of July 2015.....no more smoking for me..... I went and took the nicotine urine test on Sept. 28 and the result was that I still had nicotine in my system. I was very upset because I have not been smoking. The nurse said it was a very small amount in my system. She also said it was probable coming from my husband that smokes... secondhand smoke. He always smoke outside (I stay inside). Is this possible ... can I actually get nicotine in my system from second hand smoke? Also I was thinking maybe it is because I have been an avid smoker for so many years that it is deeply embedded in my body and has not completely left. Please tell me what you think......need all the help I can get.- 7 replies

James, Thanks, it was not easy. I did not use anything to help stop .....I simply quit cold turkey; that is why I was wondering how I still have nicotine in my system......even a minute amount. -

I am also hoping to have my surgery in mid-to-late November. I have my last appt. in last week of Oct. then I simply have to wait for the insurance to approve.....fingers crossed because I am so ready to officially begin my journey. -
Hello, I am new to this site as well. I am getting ready to have my RNY (gastric bypass) surgery. Hopefully, I will get a surgery date soon (hoping for late November). I am afraid yet excited at the same time (if that makes sense). I welcome all knowledge and advice about this gastric bypass surgery. Good luck with your journey and may we all grown together successfully.
