Clear liquids stage - making broth tasty
newlifenewsong posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did a quick search and couldn't find this on the forum, but I apologize if this is something that was already posted somewhere else! My diet is tomorrow and I'm on Clear liquids at the moment, and found the easiest way to make chicken (or any other) broth more flavorful is to warm it in a pan with whatever spices you like (I have been using the Soup really, but left it clear and with no extra calories/fat/etc... I hope this helps at least one other person -

I had my pre-op appointment on Wednesday and I 'only' have to do the pre-op diet for 10 days: 3 shakes a day (Vanilla Bariatric Advantage) that I can mix with Water, almond milk, or low-fat milk; 2 plain non-fat yoghurts of no more than 100 calories each, and sugar-free jell-o or ice lollies to snack on if I feel like it. I'll switch to Clear liquids only 48 hours before the surgery, have 2tbsp of milk of magnesia the day before, and nothing to eat or drink from midnight on the 20th until the 22nd by the sounds of it: my surgery is scheduled for the afternoon of the 21st. The advice I got was no caffeine or alcohol at least 24 hours before, but I already cut both out earlier this week. I'm also avoiding carbonated drinks (even though I could have anything sugar-free if I felt like it), to get used to the post-op restriction. So far (1 day!!), so good but I did notice that every other ad on TV seems to be for food -

I tried bariatric advantage, which my doctor recommends - you can get a bag of the powered for around $60 on Amazon. My favorite has been the vanilla one so far, though I did try the latte flavor which was not too bad either! You just need to watch out for sugar and carb content - the bariatric advantage ones are also vitamin-fortified. -

Me too! I literally just got my confirmation. I'm in the NY area, what about you? -
I feel like I lost myself , became stuck up and shallow.

I don't think you're stuck-up and shallow; you're just getting used to the new slimmer you and what it can do. My weight has been up and down a lot over the years, but I have found that whenever I was back at a slimmer size, I became a lot more conscious of men, dating, etc... It's like you need that confirmation that you *have* lost weight and that you *are* attractive, because you've spent such a long time being disappointed when you look at yourself in the mirror, that the only way to make your weight-loss real is to have someone else appreciate it. All that's going to happen is that you keep relying on that male gaze to define you, with the result that if something doesn't go as planned with someone, you're more likely to go back to using food as comfort and letting your weight creep back up (personal experience speaking here). My advice? Go on a man-diet! Try spending a month consciously choosing not to go on a date or hooking up with anyone; if a cute guy asks you out, turn him down or make plans for a few weeks from now to give yourself time to get to know him through messages, or whatever. And in that time, take yourself out on dates. Go try new things, maybe even things you don't think you'll like. Plan a nice dinner with the goal of only pleasing yourself. Get a full length mirror if you don't already have one and just spend a little time every day looking at your body and thinking about all the things that it is able to do now that you're lighter, and just take the time to appreciate yourself without someone else having to tell you your worth.
