  1. Sometimes life seems so unfair. Keeping you in my thoughts. I have three sons around his age (and 2 daughters a bit younger). I can't even imagine what you are going through. Keep us updated on his progress.... and yes, keep yourself healthy!
  2. If they clear you for surgery, I would go ahead with it. You will be on great painkillers and if it is laproscopic, the coughing won't hurt anything. Good Luck!

    BM?

Day 5 and not easy. But, has been fine since then.

    September Sleevers

I'm sure you've been told that the shoulder pain is gas.... I didn't get much of that, but was told walking helps. The hunger does return, although for me, it feels different. Its now more of an empty feeling, not the hunger pangs from pre-op and it is delightfully satisfied with so much less food. Welcome to the other side and just keep drinking those fluids!

    Time off work - selfish?

My boss tried to influence the timing of my surgery. I'm an accountant and knew that I couldn't or shouldn't have the surgery during tax season, so I scheduled it for September, thinking that if it got delayed, I would still have it before January. He said "November would be better...." I said "For WHO?" and it wasn't mentioned again. I took a whole month, but could have gone back after a couple weeks.

    September Sleevers

So glad to hear it is finally happening for you. You'll do great, I'm sure. Have an easy surgery and rapid recovery!
  7. I had to do a 10 day liver reduction diet. High Protein, low carb... to shrink the fat in the liver and make surgery easier.

    Just a little venting

You need to plan how you will deal with this issue the next time, and you know there will be a next time. Rehearse what you will say as she tries to get a booth again.... Something like..."wait, no, we got a booth last time and it sucked. I want a table." Warn your husband ahead of time that you won't suffer another dinner being uncomfortable. I can finally fit comfortably in most booths. It is a great feeling. You will get there!

    water retention

It might also be a result of inflammation caused by your workout... muscle fibers tearing and rebuilding, etc. I think this is a fairly common result of exercising, especially in the beginning.

    water retention

Do you track your sodium intake? I am super sodium sensitive. I get cankles and puffy fingers with even small amounts of salt and my scale does the same fluctuation.

Isn't that a great feeling? More than once, at a restaurant, I have had issues with the size of booths. I have noticed recently that I fit. It feels so good!

    Hernia and Tummy Tuck?

I think what he was trying to say was that a hernia repair is covered by your insurance, but a tummy tuck is not. However, if he does them at the same time, he can bill your insurance for hernia repair and you get a free tummy tuck.
  13. How are you getting home from the airport? I wasn't technically cleared to drive for 2 weeks (although I did).

    September surgeries!

On a typical day, I have a Protein shake in the morning.. Greek yogurt for my morning snack, some sort of dense protein for lunch (leftovers from the night before). dinner is fish or chicken. If I feel the need for something later......cottage cheese, SF popsicles, On the weekends, I make a scrambled egg with spinach and feta for breakfast.
  15. I believe there are usually airport personel near the carousels to help with that if needed. I would ask when you check your bag or call the airline and arrange for a meet and assist.

    September surgeries!

I had mine September 23rd. Everything has gone well. I almost never get all my fluids in, but am doing better on Protein. I've dropped one clothing size, which is wonderful since I still have all those clothes. I had my first bout of uncomfortable nausea yesterday. I think the culprit was this cornbake dish (like a cornbread pudding). I was at a chicken dinner fundraiser and the chicken was great. I should have stopped there. I tasted the mashed potatoes and the cornbake. 15 minutes later I was nauseous and uncomfortable. Live and learn!

    3-days Post-Op (Liquid)

It took me a while before I could get all the Fluid in. sugar free popsicles helped. Warm broth too. They count as fluid. Keep trying and watch your urine color. If it is fairly light in color, you aren't in danger of dehydration.

    Okay how to cook

I was approved for ground meats at 3 weeks post-op, but some went down hard. I would cook the sausage in it's casing and then cut it. If you remove the skin first, you will end up with more crunchy pieces and that probably won't go down well at this point. I ate alot of chicken in the beginning. Tuna was more difficult than salmon or whitefish. Just experiment. I throw any meat/fish/poultry into a pan with olive oil, garlic and whatever spices suit my mood.
  19. When I went for my 2 week check-up, my BP was 90/54...... 115/70 is my normal. The first thng she asked me is if I am getting all my fluids in. I definitely was struggling with it and told her so. She said that even slight dehydration will cause the BP to drop. Add to that a fairly low salt diet.......and voila!
  20. I am not a very private person and talk openly about the surgery with anyone who asks. As I have said in other posts, "I had 85% of my stomach removed" gets interesting reactions. I do wonder if they are looking at me more closely, trying to see the weight loss. I'm only down about one clothing size, so it isn't too obvious. I understand why someone would not want to tell everyone. I guess I don't care who knows or what they think.

So why does this annoy me so much?

I have a friend whose wife had wls two years ago. When I was contemplating surgery, he was hesitant to give his opinion until I pressed him about it. It turns out, she had complications unrelated to the actual procedure (steroid allergy put her in a coma). Eventually, she recovered and lost over 60 lbs...but, has regained about 20. I happened to sit next to this woman at a party during my pre-op diet phase. I watched her eat..... and eat...cheetos, chips, Cookies, wine.... and I was so irritated with her, I had to sit elsewhere. She is now my inspiration to stay on track.

    Blender or nutribullet?

I bought both a blender and a nutribullet. Blender is still in the box. I used the nutribullet about a half dozen times. I find the Protein shakes stick like glue to the inside if you don't wash it immediately. I use blender/shaker bottles most of the time.

    Atkins protein

I used them when I did the Atkins diet a couple years ago. The taste is tolerable. My NUT says they are not high enough in Protein and while they are ok in a pinch, they don't pack enough punch to be a true Meal Replacement.

  25. It is going to take a couple or three days to get that sugar out of your system. I personally would go back to Protein shakes for a couple days.
