bad test results back today.....
lcreyno replied to bjo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From the patients I had, no the coloposcopy doesn't really hurt, it's just uncomfortable. The Leep is a little more uncomfortable, but it was an in office procedure, and the patients went back to work the following day. I personally have had the coloposcopy and it really doesn't hurt. I guess by the time you read this you will already know the answer to your question. I am sorry I didn't respond earlier. -

I used to work in OB-Gyn for 8 1/2 years. Severe dysplasia is something to worry about, however, at least you have found it. Severe dysplasia is not cancer, it is pre cancer. Which means that if left untreated, it would become cancer. A lot of women have dysplasia. The severity depends on when it is caught. Most likely your Dr. will have you in for a colposcopy with biopsies. This means he will use a binocular type instrument to view your cervix, and will use another instrument to snip biopsies. The biopsies will then be sent to the lab for the Pathologist to read. At that point depending on the outcome, your Dr. will either choose to follow you closely with pap smears, schedule you for an in office procedure called a Leep, or worse case you would have to have a hysterectomy. I would say most women have a Leep when they have severe dysplasia. A Leep is when the Dr will use the same instrument that looks like binoculars to see your cervix, but he will use a heated instrument that slices (like a hot knife through butter) and remove the dysplasia and their surrounding areas. These will also be sent for Pathology results to insure that the physician got all of the areas. Then you will have to follow up with pap smears. The Leep is a fairly simple procedure, and it won't be difficult for you to go through it. Esspecially after being banded. (Ha, Ha). If you do end up with the Leep it is not the end of the world, however, be aware!! If you plan on having any future children, it is very important to tell the physician you had the Leep. Depending on how severe the dysplasia is and how aggressive your Dr. is with it, you may have to have a cervical circloge to insure you don't have the baby prematurally due to a weakend cervix. I really hope this helps. I have seen all of these things a lot, and it truly is a blessing that you have had it found earlier, better than later. Good Luck!!! -
Do you tell your kids about having LBS?

Why would you not tell them? I took my 14 year old son with me to the 3 hour seminar and I think he learned more than I did. -
I know people are on call at the office, but I was just asking if you guys thought it would be okay because the full liquids for 4 weeks is about all I can take. I believe I will move to bland mushies until I see my Dr. I will move to instant potatoes, etc. along with the liquid, as I can tolorate it. I know my Dr is a little more conservative than most, but I believe he is trying to reduce my intake until my 6 week check up when I get my first fill. I think he is trying to avoid that phase where I have read some have gained weight instead of losing weight. I do appreciate all of the advice.

I am 4 wks post op. I have been on the liquid diet faithful. On Monday it has been 4 wks since surgery. All of my nutritional papers say liquid diet 1-4 wks and then mushies from 4-6wks. I was suppose to see the Dr. this week for my 4 wk check, but he is going to be out of town. My next appointment isn't until 2/6/08. Should I start mushies or wait until I am seen on the 6th? What would you do? I am sick of all liquid, but I want to do everything right. I don't want to mess up. I didn't go through all of this for nothing.

I wanted to let everyone know my story, so that my experience may make others more aware of things that can happen. I had my band put in 12/31/07. My incision began to drain at the same time a small area of my abdominal incision had began to look as if it had come apart. I went to my doctor, and he put new steri strips on it. I was to keep changing the outer bandages if it continues to drain. It kept draining, and draining. I was almost positive that I had a hematoma. The draining continued, it was so heavy I had to cover the outer bandages with a Kotex to stop the draining from ruining my cloths. Last Wednesday 1/16/08, I went to the bathroom, and I felt a wierd feeling with my incision. I uncovered it and a 1 inch long area of the incision had gayped open. I immediatly called my doctor. (I had first dressed the dressing with sterile gauze, etc) I went straight to his office. He looked into it and said yes you have a hematoma. Next thing I knew my incision was completely opened back up. He felt and said my port was exposed. He said I would need to go back to surgery on Friday, 1/18/2008. I ask if there was another alternative. He said I would probably only be prolonging the inevitable, but he could irrigate it and sew it up. He said it would probably become infected, but if I wanted to go that way he would. I chose that way. In a sterile environment, he cleaned out the hematoma, and then irrigated the open wound. He closed the wound up, and stitched it. He put me on antibiotics for a week. I go back to the doctor this Wednesday, 1/23/2008. I am so scared. I am afraid it is going to get infected. I pray everyday, that after Tuesday, 1/22/08, (the last day of my antibiotics) that this thing will be okay. I think if I go back to surgery I am going to have it removed all together. I am just not willing to die to be thin. I have way to much living to do. The good news... I have lost 20lbs since surgery!!

Are there any other newbies on Clear & Full Liquids
lcreyno replied to grandmom4x's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery 12/31 and I am still on the liquid diet. Tonight is the first night that I am going crazy. My family must ate pizza, and I wanted a piece so bad! I didn't eat one because I can't but I sure wanted to. I get to move up to puree' foods in the AM, and I am a little excited!! I went to the Doctor on 1/9/08, 9 days post op and had lost 14.5 pounds so I am obviously doing what I am suppose to. I just wanted to say, I REALLY WANTED THAT PIZZA!!!! But I am sooo PROUD of ME!! -
I had surgery 2 weeks ago. I keep having a brown colored bloody discharge. I went back to the doctor on Wednesday, and they put fresh steri strips on it and told me to continue chaning the outer dressing. Is it possible I have a hematoma that is using the port incision to drain out. How is a person to exercise, or even do daily activity when this incision continues to do this? It is bleeding through on my clothes, and saturating the dressing.

I had my surgery 12/31/07, I came home on 01/01/08. I have layed in a recliner since I got home. I get up to go to the bathroom, and I walk to end of the driveway each day. I haven't taken any pain meds since I have been home, but I feel like a horse has kicked me in the abdomen. Other than that I feel okay. I got really weak after my first shower. I am not able to eat more than 3 ounces at a time. I am doing soupy grits, Carnation instant breakfast, jello, juice, and apple sauce. Taking my daily meds, Celexa and Addrall sucks. Crushing them in apple sauce still doesn't cover that terrible taste. Am I suppose to be still having this pain in the abdomen?
