I'd have to echo what others have said here. The important part right now is not weightloss -- the focus should be on recovery first. The pounds will come off, don't worry.

Calling all June '16 sleevers!

Day 5 after surgery, and I was finally able to meet my hydration goals! It's still pretty hard, and drinking still painful at times. That came at the expense of my protein though. 62oz fluids, and only 31g of 70g protein. Interestingly, even though I prefer to drink water, it seems to cause me the most problems, so I've been using diluted apple juice, which is less than ideal. Oh well, not going to worry about how much sugar that's hitting me with until I can comfortably drink water again. -
How many incisions did you end up with?

This is exactly what I ended up with as well. And yes, they definitely itch and are very sensitive to touch. That really is nothing though in comparison to the gas pain. -
6 month waiting period for insurance is crazy
Farcaster replied to bac2u's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During my 6-month medically supervised diet, the nutritionist I worked with largely de-emphasized weight loss and focused on changing behaviors that would make me more successful post-surgery. Some of our goals included: making healthier choices when eating out, reducing alcohol intake over 6 months until it was completely eliminated, establishing exercise routines, and avoiding drinking Water during meals. I also used it as an opportunity to tap the nutritionist for ideas on making vegetables more interesting -- getting recipes from her and learning the wonders of roasting. It also gave me a long lead in to really feel confident about the life altering choice I was about to make. So, for me, I found the time investment to definitely be valuable. -

I had my surgery on the 21st as planned. What was unplanned is that I would need to stay at the hospital for two extra days. I was hoping I would be one of those people that posted on here that I didn't really experience much pain afterwards, but that was clearly not to be. I've had a lot of trouble with getting in the liquids. Ever since they started me on them, it has been painful to actually drink. They did have me do a swallow study (also painful) and everything looked fine -- no leaks and nothing twisted. I did finally figure out though that it seems to be more sensitive to cold. So, if I have a warm drink (at least body temperature), I have signficantly less pain, or as of today, no pain at all when drinking warm liquids. Every day is getting better, but not being able to get my fluids in was part of what made it take extra long to get out of the hospital. I also had some problems with urinating and ended up having to have a cathedar for a while. Seriously not fun on that front. I was so much happier after the second day when that came out and I could pee on my own. Anyway, I'm home as of last night, and things seem to be going okay. I still have a lot of gas pain, but my warm liquids workaround seems to at least make it much easier to keep up with fluids. I'm glad to hear that most of you didn't have to go through quite as much post-op. At least the worst is behind me now. -

Well... Tomorrow is the day. I'll see you all on the other side. -
My surgery is tomorrow! But this liquid diet is killing me lol

I'm on the pre-op diet to at the moment, day six for me. Mine is two shakes and then light dinner, so not 100% liquid. I definitely felt like it got easier after the third day. Day 2 and 3 were really rough. I was hungry and tired pretty much all day. Day 6 though and I'm doing alright. So, with it only being 2 days you probably won't have time to get "used" to it, but this phase will be over soon at least. -
I'd agree with Kristen, I don't think the extra Protein could be fouling you up. If you're doing full liquids with 3 Premier Protein shakes, that's a total of a mere 480 calories. Unless you have some other calorie source, I can't see how you couldn't be losing considering a Very Low Calorie Diet would be something like 800 calories.

June 21st here. Started a three week pre-op diet on Tuesday. You all know they have forums for each month cohort? http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1215-june-2016-sleevers/

Calling all June '16 sleevers!

My date is June 21st too!! I start my pre-op liquid diet next Tuesday, the 7th. Pre-op diet for me started a couple of days ago, since I needed to do three weeks. I'm on day 3 of the diet. Some aspects are easier than I expected. I'm able to go to lunch with friends and have a glass of water while they eat and not be losing my mind. At the same time, I have some intense feelings of hunger every once in a while and just feel generally fatigued. I guess that is to be expected with a diet that has me eating about 700 calories a day. Anyway, something to be prepared for. I guess what makes it easier is that I only have to deal with this phase for a couple more weeks now. Still, I think I'll mourn not having the usual Friday white chicken pizza tomorrow. -

I started my three week pre-op diet today, which consists of 2 protein shakes and then for dinner I can have 4-6 oz of some sort of meat, 1/2 cup of starch, and unlimited greens. Very hungry right now and I've got another 20 days to go. Yikes! -

I lied for the first time today about what I was going to be doing come June 21st. Of course, there would be something on that day that I'd have to give an excuse for not attending. I just hadn't thought about what I was going to tell people outside-of-the-know yet. I went with "I'm going to be traveling." I felt a little bad about not being honest, but I just don't know that I want anyone, particularly outside of close friends, to know... -

Hey, I just noticed that our surgery dates are on the same day! Are you self-pay? I ask because I had to get the labs and psych test done for the insurance approval, which they had to have before they'd even think about scheduling me. -
I think the cause of your reflux might factor in to the decision as well. I have GERD as well, but after my surgeon reviewed the results of my EGD, he was conformable with still doing the sleeve surgery. That said, RNY typically resolves GERD, whereas the Sleeve increases the risk of GERD.

I've got so much going on in the next couple of weeks, I'm glad I'm not trying to manage a pre-op diet on top of everything else at the moment. But, yeah, I'm anxious to start on the next leg of the journey. It will be here sooner than you think though -

My approval came in today and I am scheduled for June 21st with pre-op diet starting almost three weeks before. Apparently, when you're near 50 BMI, my surgeon likes to have an extended pre-op. Yay! I feel like I should be nervous about having such a major surgery, but I guess it doesn't quite feel real yet.
