    BMI 40-41 and pre-op diet

My surgeon only required preop diet for bmi over 50. I was 42, so it wasn't required. I followed a modified one, completely voluntarily, though.

    Holiday Weight Loss Challenge!

My first challenge! I'm 4.5 weeks post op. Start weight 224, and I'm shooting for onederland by 2016. Goal weight is 199! Feels aggressive but why not??? Let's do this thing!
  4. Nsv Two weeks after surgery I returned to work wearing slacks that I was unable to fit into for 2 years prior. Perfect, comfortable fit. Today (2 weeks later) I had to roll the waist of the same pants over just to not look like a hobo. They're hanging off of my hips and way too loose!! Time for some shopping!
  5. I did. I'm Chrys129 on there Edited because I changed the name. Seemed less confusing that way Do I call you karen or chrys? I'll answer to either one. Chrys is probably easier to remember.
  6. So today I hit the point where I officially have less than 100 lbs to lose. 99.2 to goal! High weight 261 Surgery consult weight 254 Surgery weight 240 Current weight 228.2 It's still unbelievable to me that it's really happening.
  7. Oh no! Whoops. I'll look at it after work. Sorry

  9. Welcome Catherine! I was Oct 5th too. So glad you're finally able to post! Looking forward to getting to know you better. I track my food on my fitness pal, bit more for protein goals right now. My doc said stay under 1000 for weight loss at my size, so I try to stay under 800 personally. I find its hard to get much more than that in though. Been feeling more restrictions lately on soft foods. Funny when I am full now I hiccup and my nose starts to run. Makes me giggle a little. It's so different.
  10. I think her concern was that her comorbidities would no longer apply so she'd have to be over 40 without needing the BP meds or another comorbity to allow her that cushion down to 35. If I understood her corrctly, of course. I don't want to speak for her. But Marcia, I was thinking - maybe they count the bmi and comorbities that you presented with at the start, before the supervised diet? That might be worth checking into.
  11. I think you really need to soul search and ask yourself not just if you CAN do it without surgery, but if you can then MAINTAIN a healthy weight on your own too. That was the clincher for me. I know I am unlikely to maintain it without this tool. I've lost 93 lbs "on my own" in the past , felt awesome and looked great, and then stress (nasty divorce with three young kids and emotional eating) and I rebounded...and over the course of a couple years I put it ALL back on, plus a few pounds. That's just me though. You may feel totally different about your own journey and that's what you need to examine. We can't do it for you, but we can share our insights. I was also type 2 diabetic (I say was because I'm practically off all meds already ) so that was a major reason for surgical intervention. If you feel confident that you can do this without surgery, that is your call. You know yourself better than anyone here. If you still need and want the tool to help you, THEN GO FOR IT. Journal it out. Go old school with a list of pros and cons. Pray on it, if you're religious at all. You'll find the answer is clearer than you realized. If you're concerned about insurance covering the procedure if you fall below 40 bmi ask your doctor and see if they have a strategy for you. I'm sure you aren't the first patient with that issue. Hopefully they can help advise you or work with insurance on your behalf. We're all here to support you no matter which road you choose. I'm just so glad to hear you got clean bill of heart health! What a relief that must be. Sorry this was so long. Let us know and keep in touch whatever your choice. Rooting for you!
  12. @@RDub I've had about the same weight loss and no problems with foods or liquids. I feel restriction now that I can have soft foods but I know how you feel. Lost 9 lbs 2 weeks after surgery and nothing this past week. 6 lbs is a good deal to lose in 2.5 weeks. Give yourself some credit for that and enjoy it. The weight will keep coming off. Maybe just more steadily, which is fine too.
  13. I have some pretty catty coworkers too, who have been nasty to me at times and passive aggressive gossips the rest of the time. I have no intention of telling them. What's interesting is I only told my 2 close team members I was going to be off for surgery. Never specified what kind of surgery. I didn't tell anyone outside my department that I was even going to be out. But somehow while I was off a woman from another department started texting me under the guise of sharing office gossip, then said "I heard you had surgery... nobody told me what it was for though" As if I was going to share details so she could go back and let everyone know. It made me laugh a bit. But also sad. I just replied thank you, I'm home and recovering now. She was probably annoyed that I gave nothing away. She also hasn't spoken to me since I returned 4 days ago. Not even a good morning. Most people, even the bitchy ones at least gave me a fake "welcome back" the first day. I'm not ashamed but I'm not sharing anything about my personal life with people like that. My family and real friends know. I just tell people I'm on a low carb, high Protein diet under doctor supervision. And exercising every day. Surgery was for "stomach issues"
  14. I think I'm experiencing the 3rd week stall. I've been at the same weight for the 4th morning in a row. Trying to be cool, stick eith the program and ride it out but it's definitely annoying.

  16. What a cutie pie! I love it. Thank you for sharing this. It gave me a great big grin after a rough day.
  17. First day back at work today. I'm more tired than I anticipated. Also need to work on remembering to eat. Yikes. It's all a learning process. Making new habits. I need a nap. Lol.
  18. Fingers crossed for you!!!
  19. Sleeved 10/5. 1st week I was down 5.5 lbs.

    Blurry eyes

Did you have a nausea medication patch? If you touch the patch and then touch near your eyes it will mess up your vision for awhile. It'd be worth a call to your doctor though, to be safe. Good luck
  21. I'm so excited. Obviously a big goal was to get to a healthy BMI, but a BIG BIG BIG reason I went the surgical route was for the chance to reverse my type II diabetes with the resulting changes in gut metabolism, etc. My surgery was exactly a week ago today and I already had to eliminate one of my meds and the other one I've cut back to about half dose. My fasting glucose levels and after meals (liquid "meals" lol) have been perfect for 5 days now. I'm beyond happy! I need to call my doctor this afternoon to let him know and get his official opinion. In other news, I'm also officially down 5 lbs since surgery last week and 19 lbs since 2 weeks pre-op.

Are There Any Single Sleevers Out There..

Can I join in? Single, newly sleeved a week ago. Divorced about 7 years now, been utterly single ever since (amazing how work and 3 growing kids will keep you out of the social world, lol...not to mention the weight issues). Hoping there's a new future ahead of me, but for now I'm doing this on my own Nice to meet you all.
  23. Marcia, I am sure you are disappointed after anticipating the surgery for so long. BUT, thank goodness they found this now so you can be treated for it and be in the best health. You seem like a very determined individual and I'm certain you will still succeed in becoming healthier in whatever way is safest for you. Best of luck and please stick around and let us know how you are doing! ((HUGS)) Thinking all the best for you.
  24. probably should have put this in the post-op forum. I didn't realize I was still in the pre-op Q&A forum when I posted. Sorry!
