    Smoking nicotine test

Are you saying that you have to take a blood test that determines if you've been smoking or not??? Or just regular labs?
  2. When I went to my pre-op appointment, I was speaking with the surgeon and he mentioned that the sleeve "only has the horsepower to help you lose between 100-150lbs", and mentioned that, due to my size (470lbs) I would likely have to get revision surgery to RNY, but for now he agreed that the sleeve would be best for me. Personally, I agree that the sleeve is the best option for me, but I am worried that he is right about eventually needing revision surgery. I only want to go through this once! I have previously posted asking about experiences of people who were 400+ lbs who chose the sleeve even though it doesn't have as much firepower behind it as the RNY. I'm making this post to see if anyone else has heard this claim before or if they were able to surpass the 150-170lb mark. Don't get me wrong, I will be doing all I can to help my sleeve through diet and exercise, but I just worry that it will all be for nothing. (Not that 150lbs isn't nothing, but I have at least 120 extra after that to lose!!) Thank you in advance

    Veterans....#1 thing you miss / don't miss

Thank you to every one who posted! I'm pre-op (1/13/16) and it's very exciting too see all of the successes you have. It's interesting how most of the things every one misses relate to food. I think that will be difficult for me to get used to, but I honestly am so so so much more excited about doing all the fun things I love to do again!

    Happy One Year Anniversary

    Congrats! You look great! ????
  5. Yikes! I can understand why someone would THINK that (even if it is a very vain and mean thing to think), but to actually say it out loud and to the person that is bigger than you...wow!
  6. Congrats! You look great! (We have the same phone case ????)

25, mom of 2 and sleeving soon

Hi everyone! Names Amy ???? I'm 27 and will be sleeved 1/13. Only 12 days to go!! I'm super nervous but also starting to feel really excited. I just hope recovery goes smoothly, as long as that goes well, I think I can handle the transition pretty well! I have an Instagram that I'm using to document my progress, and I'm always looking to follow other WLS patients. I'm @plumppucker if interested

  10. Hey everyone! I finally got a surgery date! January 13th, 2016. However, along with that date came the sudden intense fear and panic. I'm not scared of the changes that will happen, I'm excited for them! However, I am terrified of the actual surgery. I'm afraid I might have a panic attack when the time finally comes. I've had emergency surgery before to remove my gallbladder and I did have a panic attack then, however, I didn't have the weeks to sit and really think about everything that can go wrong. My questions to you all is: what did you do to help combat your fears (if you had any), and was there anything that happened that you weren't aware of that you wish you had been told about??? Thank you! ????

    post-op poops!

I had my gallbladder out in 2002, so it wasn't a factor in my surgery. Cool! What I'm wondering is if having your gallbladder removed prior to the surgery helps with not being able to use the bathroom? I know that since my gallbladder has been removed, I use the bathroom much more often. Well, we'll see after Jan. 13th!!

    post-op poops!

I'm wondering if this problem happens for people who have had their gallbladder removed prior to surgery?
  14. yerawizardamy

    I won't regret this...right?

Thank you every one that has posted, my surgery is 1/13/16 and I'm terrified. This helped a lot!!
  15. I'll be getting sleeved 1/13/16 - I'm so nervous! I can't believe I'm actually gonna do it. I'm ready for the results but I just pray the surgery/recovery goes smoothly.

    400+ Sleevers?

Hi! I've been on this (awesome) site/app looking around for a couple of months while awaiting my surgery and going through the requirements. I've noticed that on here, instagram, YouTube, and tumblr, most of the people who have had the VSG sleeve done all seem to be around the high 200s to mid 300s pound range. I was wondering if there are any good stories of people who were 400+ lbs who got the VSG done instead of the RNY? I know the RNY is more common for people with more weight to lose. If anyone here would like to share their success stories I would be super appreciative! Or, if you happen to know of any blogs/youtubers/instagram accounts that are going through their process that started out in the 400+ range I would be forever grateful!! Thanks so much

  19. Hey y'all! I have my first appointment with the surgeon that will (hopefully) do my surgery next week! My question is in regards to people who previously suffered from sleep apnea and had WLS. I am 27 and have undiagnosed sleep apnea (I know I do because I worked for a doctor who performed sleep studies and I have alllll the symptoms), and I was wondering about people who had WLS and it whether it helped clear up their sleep apnea or it didn't. Ages would be appreciated, I know age is a factor with sleep apnea. I really hope I can get this surgery, I'm so sick of waking up on my couch with no memory of having fallen asleep, or drinking 5 cups of coffee just to stay awake at my desk. It's so terrible!! Thanks so much in advance for any input!

    Sleep Apnea?

@@Dub yes! The auto one is fantastic! I'm not sure what a non auto one is like but if it's what I imagine, I doubt I would have been able to fall asleep with that amount of pressure coming at me right off the bat! My auto cpap starts out at a nice manageable level but when I wake up in the morning man is that baby pumping!! Lol!

    Sleep Apnea?

Just wanted to update this thread! After meeting with the nurse practitioner and discussing my possible sleep apnea, she stated that in order to get a surgery date I would have to be cpap compliant for a month. I did my sleep study that night and got the results on Monday...let's just say they were less than stellar. Pretty damn terrible if I'll be honest. I ended up getting an auto cpap machine this Friday and the difference in quality of sleep and energy was immediate!! I feel a million times better!! I'm so happy they made me get the sleep study. Thank you so much to everyone for sharing their stories!!
  22. I am going to be doing the sleeve gastrectomy in January and I couldn't be more excited! However, I have a particular and pretty specific worry that I wonder if any one else has had to deal with... My sister has had eating/workout disorders since she was a teen (now 33), and I have always tried supporting her and tried to get her help, but to no avail. I plan on staying with her/my dad while I recover and I worry that my extreme weight loss will exacerbate her disorders. I seem to do that already when I go and visit for a weekend (I think she is afraid of me judging her so she counteracts that with extreme working out and portion control). I wonder if anyone here has gone through this? My sister is of course outwardly supportive, but I feel like internally she is jealous (even though she would never ever say it), and wishes it was something she could do (she's not overweight at all, extremely fit). I am worried about telling her about my experiences, but she is a big support of mine. I don't want her feeling inadequate or insecure because of me. If you experienced this, what did you do? Did you tell them straight up how you felt beforehand or did you just avoid talking about your weight loss experience completely? Thanks in advance!

    Sleep Apnea?

Lol! Lucky him! Time for you to take more naps I think. For research, obviously. ;-P

    Sleep Apnea?

Thanks! And yes, I probably should have worded my question better. I just was curious how many people on here has had the WLS and has had their sleep apnea either clear up or remain the same after losing weight. The statistics always show such a high percentage of people who's apnea has cleared up that I wanted to get some stories from real people, not just numbers!
